tube light, not a bad mod host, definitely an a8 clone, even down to the plastic plate at pos end.
aleto, bit more of a nightmare to mod.
both have next mode memory and are under driven. imo, neither are much use as they arrived but both can be improved. just the tube light is an easier mod than the aleto.
i bought that one from ebay too, i won the bid for $ 12.65.
i must say… it is a beautiful light among all my black colored lights.
it is a gem… too bad the output is not as bright as i wish it should be, but then again… most lights on the market are built for the masses, not for flasholics like us
hmm… question is… what kind of driver can i put in there? as the original driver is 22mm
i guess i’ll do a review on it soon
Got one too. Kind of like the beam profile and look of the light, but the light needs a lot of work as follows:
Bezel appears to infringe on beam
Pill is very sloppy (threaded)
Reflector is loose. An o-ring can probably fix it.
Emitter may be lower bin than T6
Driver is under driven with next mode memory.
All problems that can be overcome. Did resistance mods and used copper tape to tighten up the pill fitment. Still not much output. I plan to eventually mod it, but it is way low on the list at this point.
It is solid. I think there was no thermal paste under the emitter. The pill is a little unusual in that the outside threaded area is straight. No ledge to stop it from threading all the way up or down the head. The copper tape did a real good job of tightening it up.
The beam smoothly intensifies to the center point. It may behave differently when higher output levels are achieved, but I hope not. I find sharp cutoff around hotspots distracting. In most situations, I feel like I see my target better if I can see the context of the surrounding area. That surrounding area is chopped up by a sharp cut off for me.
Ha! I recently tried beam shots for the first time. It was a terrible experience. I admire people that take such great shots. You’re one of those people. I have a crappy old camera that only has a couple settings and seems to have a memory issue. Last time I used it (during an all nighter working on my MTG2 spot light), I lost all the pictures. Big time bummer. Luckily, I snapped a couple pictures with my wife’s phone during the process. I tried to take some beam shots with her phone, but it doesn’t work for that.
When I get the funds, I will get a budget camera and tripod. Maybe DayLighter (cool screen name) can help with that. Sorry garry.
Pretty sharp cut off in the wall pics. I didn’t think of doing that. Might be able to do that with the phone camera. The beam doesn’t look anything like that to me in the wild though.
DayLighter, do you still have the stock insulator on the led? I’m trying to remember if is one of those that covers some of the emitter bubble.
Oh, I should have said that the wall is beige. It’s the only place in the house I could find that didn’t have pictures and such. I would call the tint white. Not green, blue, or red. No color at all. So I guess I agree with your accessment of the tint.
i’m pretty sure… the first shot was slightly zoomed in, that’s why probably the hotspot look bigger.
it slightly has the whiter color than my lightmalls C8 XM-L2 ( less brighter of course)
I can’t clearly remember. I know I changed out the insulator that goes between the led and the reflector. I think it was one of those thick plastic guys that actually covers up part of the emitter.
garry, the reflector looks much like a C8 reflector. It fits loosely in the light width wise.
