The battery is an Efest IMR 10440 easily capable of 3A or more. This I know because I accidentally shorted it for a split second and it burned a blister on my finger! Dang thing is potent!
The driver is a mini FluPIC (10mm diameter!) with preset Lo, selectable Med (1 of 10 levels selectable in mode 5) and a full out Hi (which is supposed to only be 650mA but it’s very very bright on this Nichia 219 5000K) For some reason mode 4 is a blank. Mode 5 makes the selection for mode 2 (med) and it has a memory that kicks in at just under a second. Low voltage cut-off at 2.8V. No funny noises, no blinkies of any kind.

Yeah yeah I know it’s not fair, but the EDC+ is one of 2 lights I have that has been tested in a sphere at 720 OTF lumens. The TP holds it’s own pretty well, of course the EDC+ Triple has more spill so the throw comparison is kind of a leveler to split the difference on the sheer size and battery power difference, not to mention 3 emitters.
Same settings, pitch dark out with not even a moon. Shot with the 5DMkII and 100mm Macro 2.8L IS. Settings mimicked what I saw. Cropped into the shot for a 5x7 @300 dpi from the larger 13x19 300 dpi shot to show detail on the oil drum 50 yds out. A tiny AAA format light that throws 50 yds! Not too shabby!
In actuality the XP-G2 emitters in the EDC+ are very similar to the Nichia 219 5000K emitter. And they’re pulling 2A for a theoretical 700mA to each, which is just 50mA more than the mini FluPIC drives the Texas Poker. So the difference is mainly in optics vs. reflector divided by total number of emitters squared minus the ambient temperature and the weight of a Super Taco. Oops, sorry, got carried away there. But obviously the emitter comparison with the power it’s given is quite similar. Both lights have the emitters mounted on copper. Both are in copper heatsinks. One is awesome. One is black.
Thanks Pulsar. The large hole in the tail was intended for my Ti curb chain, but I decided to do some reshaping on a McGizmo Ti gate clip so that the end is more rounded and fit’s the Texas Poker readily and mount that on the chain instead. I took the clasp out of the chain and reattached the links so that it’s a continuous chain with no break, the Ti gate clip hangs from the chain and the light is easily removable for use. This way everything that can be is Titanium, even the spring on the gate clip.
Don’t know if it’s water proof enough to just leave on in the shower or swimming, need to ask that question. With the o-rings it has in it I would think it would be safe for 30’ or less.
Low is very nice in the night. Hi is intense. Med I can set where I want it in 10 steps from Lo to Hi, have it at 4 for the time being and it’s looking like that’s a good choice.
Thanks Hikelite, how about an accessory from Photon Fanatic to match the light? A battery holder for the keychain so a spare cell is always ready to go…
Looking like a very large bullet, it’s Texas Poker Ammunition.
Trying out a Plastic Spring from Lee Spring Co, cut down to a single coil it’s purpose is to keep the battery separated from the driver when in the off position and to be slippery enough to keep the twisty smooth and silky. With these fantastic threads smooth and silky is guaranteed!

The Texas Poker and it’s backups, the MBI HF in Ti and CU. The Ti HF has an XM-L T5 while the CU HF has an Nichia 219. They are in configuration to run the Nuke 10250 cell.
Daily carry, the Texas Poker on it’s Ti curb chain and the HF’s along with a Ti Pen, and Ti pill fob of my own make on my keychain….among other things.
Everytime I think I know a little about working with tools or electronics, someone on this forum shows me how puny my skills are.
I hate all of you for making me feel bad about myself. LOL! Just joking but the level of skill and knowledge on this forum is formidable. If all you talented guys could pool your skills in to a single vein, you could start a company that would instantly rival any flashlight manufacturer out there.
Brilliant observation Speedsix, I wonder what it would take to implement a collective action into mass production? My limited knowledge of lathes and CNC machines tells me that once the product is figured out and programmed into the computer, it should be relatively “easy” to produce multiple product of similar quality to the original hand made device. Now wouldn’t THAT be interesting! Custom one-off lights for the masses! In a way, that’s exactly what Guy from MBI did with the HF lights in the photo above. Prototyped it till it met his exacting standard, then produced them in batches of 100 or maybe 200 in metals such as Al (beadblasted or anodized black) Cu in RAW finish only, Ti also in bead blasted or RAW and I think there’s a SS version on the way. Also with or without Trit inserts. Even allowed the first production run to have specific serial numbers. I have the very first HF shipped to the States in Cu with XM-L U2 emitter and a custom serial number. (Yes, I have 3 HF’s) These tiny lights produce some 600 lumens from a special run of 10250 cell designed by Guy and called the Nuke, a high discharge 80mAh cell that gives that 600 lumens number by driving the XM-L at some 3.02A for a short duration (heat is a real issue in this small of light, even in solid copper variant) {that 3.02A was just measured on my DMM from a fully charged but rested cell}
I’ve got some shot’s of it next to an 18650 cell, standing beside an L2P light, and with the AAA sized 10440. Also with a quarter perched beside it. They should all be here somewhere…
I made the finishing touches on the Texas Poker. Anodized the head, then polished the exterior back up to achieve a complimentary blue to the orange of the copper. All done, and really really loving it!
