Nebo WeatherRite 610 Lumen LED Lantern

Found this looking for a bright LED lantern.

Can’t find anything on it but for $40 why not?
I want to use my Accupower 10,000 mAh D cells in it but even then I doubt I will get 30 hours on high especially if this light is 610 lumens for the whole 30 hours claimed.

I wish somebody made a real 1000 lumen LED lantern :expressionless:

This is also available at one of the big US suppliers, Brightguy. And they don’t say either what emitter it uses, but w 6D’s it could clearly perform if its driven hard enough (or modded, of course)

I have a new XML lantern (see the thread) which is way unimpressive, built on the common Rav O Vac platform. This (looks) is the same, just sized up. I have my doubts where any/all the heat from a higher performing emitter would go.

So far, the best I have seen is the big HD Coleman and its easily brighter by a bunch than any of the Rav O Vacs or their clones… looking for it on sale, best I have seen is $60 which was just too much for me to spend. They only claim 560 lumens I think but its way brighter than any of my Ray O Vacs, the new XML version or the great designed Black Diamonds.

Hey, I would settle for 750 honest lumens at this point. Use My BS Terminator w a globe over the top in the meantime…

Thanx southcovekayak,

I seen that coleman but 500 lumens just won’t light up a big enough area… Maybe I should just do it.

Well if anybody has seen a decent bright lantern please post if for all to see cause this really sucks.

Both of us are looking for something that quite honestly is not in the marketplace right now. The Coleman is a neat lantern, the Black Diamond is nice. I wondering if they (Coleman, Ray O Vac, etc) simply don’t see a market for a top quality piece (The Coleman 560 lumens is normally $80 at Cabelas) or they have (me) maxxed out the dollars they think they can get people to spend on a battery powered lantern.

I have totally given up on gas, just make do w/o it. For car camps I am using Goal Zero 12v LEDs and my own clip lights w HK sourced 12v LED bulbs. As awesome as you need it. Just don’t trip over the damn wires. For boat camps we bring a small folding solar panel, 12v motorcycle battery (this would be 3-4 people for 3-5 nights) and a few of our Goal Zero or clamp lights…especially in the fall when it gets dark by 5pm or so. And some SF battery lanterns.

And don’t underestimate that BS Terminator, its a wicked good camp light for 5-15 minute bursts!

Never seen the BS Terminator but I have the X100 and that is an insane light. 3800 OTF if I recall.
I have been thinking about goal zero for a while now, they have some cool gadgets but we have to stay as small as possible because we have a Nissan Rogue with a cargo carrier but have 2 people and 150lbs of dogs that take up half the back. We have been taking 2 cars for our trips but last week we slammed everything we needed including firewood into the Rogue and JUST MADE IT. I seen a Coast 360 lumen lantern at home depot yesterday but again 360 just wont cut it. Somebody’s gotta make one somewhere.

Market, demand, cost… would you pay $85-100+ for a better lantern?* And Coleman continues to add models to their lineup, sooner or later the goods will appear, but you may not like the battery options or the cost.

I have not been unhappy w anything Goal Zero, though you can source higher output 12v bulbs much cheaper, (the lantern bodies are nicely designed and built) I run some in my Goal Zero lanterns, the rest in mechanics style clip lamps - the bomb. But that isn’t a cheap way to go either. Illumination Supply (and many other sources) has these neat 12v car/truck based modular lamps, again not cheap, but if you could mount them, wire them and live w the battery drain you could be well lit (if not photo studio bright) for under $150 for a setup - a lot cheaper than I am invested in mine.

I am pushing my battery/solar set up as we also borrow an off the grid cabin 1-3 times a year and boy is it nice to have some light, some music when you need it. And it has to fit in a small space too - same setup we bring to canoe/kayak camp in a larger group.

*Yikes, I can’t believe how much the gas ones cost these days.

$100 ain’t bad for a good lantern. Spent lots more on different lights
Once the house repairs are done I will be getting serious about solar but for now I guess I will keep using my propane Coleman.

i think the flourescant bulb lanterns are very good and bright. you should definetly take a look at those ones.

I still like white gas Coleman lanterns with thorium mantels, but my X borrowed mine when there was a power outage and never gave it back.

Streamlight just brought out a 4 x C4 LED lantern, 3D cells I think. I saw it for $38, think I am going to give it a shot, do a little research on line. Hopefully its brighter than the standard Rayovac that everyone seems to have.

I sure have used those lights and my 12v Goal Zero and my SF lanterns a bunch more than I would have liked this past two seasons…

Has anyone tried The Siege? I’m considering one or two for disaster preparedness. Shipping to New Zealand costs almost as much as a decent lantern, so I don’t want to go buying one to find it’s rubbish, as returning them is impractical.

Did anyone try the Nebotools lantern? They don’t ship internationally but I can get it via a reshipper.

I have two other Streamlight flashlights w the C4. They are both decent, one was such a good price I couldn’t say no, the first one is a Litebox lead acid battery firemans style lantern/flashlight. That puts out a very generous, usable and long lasting amount of light.
I would think that the Streamlight stated lumens are alot more genuine than the Nebo or even the Ray O Vac. I had bought another XML lantern and its certainly 10-15% brighter than the standard Ray O Vac, but its a very harsh tint and I have to wonder about heat buildup over an hour plus time. Also, I have to play w the diffuser to soften the harsh tint a bit.
If you can just buy the HP Coleman lantern w a stated output of 580 lumens for a reasonable cost, I think that would be your best bet.
If you have access to or are interested in making up a 12v system, we have had wonderful luck w E27 screw in base bulbs in an off the grid system for storm emergencies, backwoods cabins and camping usage.

The HP Coleman lantern looks awesome, but it’s fairly expensive. Given I have some decent torches, and they’re only for disasters, I’d probably prefer to get two cheaper ones. I’ll probably have a look at the other Coleman ones, thanks.

Coleman does now have a 1000 Lumens lantern.

Massive output by lantern standards which also means that it burns through batteries at maximum. Reportedly draws over 4 amps on high with four high capacity D size NiMH batteries.
