Comparing it to the UF 3mode xml, it looks to be brighter on high. low is more like the mid on the uf 3mode.
It has an OP reflector that is much wider and deeper than the p60. the aluminumm heatsink gets really hot after a few minutes so its doing what its supposed to. The tailcap allows for tailstanding. overall im happy with this light so far.
I just uploaded some pics. the threads did'nt really come lubed. the pill/heatsink is quite a heavy piece so it should transfer heat quite well. The led itself does'nt look centered on the pill, but when the reflector in on it looks like its pretty well centered. The threads seem smooth after lubing and the body has a double O-ring setup on both ends. The reflector might be the same size as the C8. It does have mode memory so the blinky mode doest'nt bother me as much. A lux meter is probably the next thing im buying so i can do some measurements.
Firstly the star is only mounted to the pill via thermal goo so can be moved, secondly the star is actually mounted to a piece of aluminium which is in turn mounted to the silver part of the light. So what i did was to remove the led completely and then remove the piece of aluminium that the led was mounted to, it only had a very small amount to thermal goo in between so i removed this and added artic silver 5. I then replaced the alu disc and screwed that to the pill. ( there are actually threads in the body of the pill ) I then used artic adhesive to reattach the star and re-soldered everything. as a result the light stays brighter for longer and i get around 3.1 from a freshly charged trustfire flame dropping to 2.98a
Thx for the info. i can actually move the led around easily while the isolator is still on. im trying to remove the isolator but its on there really good.
Are you saying you swapped the reflector of the Trustfire with the MRV or are you saying you use the Trustfire instead of your MRV now? What I really want is the most throw I can get off an XM-L for under $30 and in stock configuration. I don't want a hard core thrower with an XR-E/Xp-E, because I want the spill and overall output that an XM-L provides, but I want to get the most throw I can out of the XM-L in that under $30 range. It seems like the C8 smooth is my best bet right now, but if the stock Trustfire can beat out the C8 smooth, I'll take that. Since the C8 and Trustfire seem to use the same size reflector, I'd be surprised if that were the case. It'd be nice to see a comparison between this light and the KD C8.
I can't solder worth a hoot and I don't have a functional soldering iron right now so I have to stay away from any serious modding.
I can't directly compare betweeen those two light versions, but would certainly stay away from the SSC-P7 for throw. My wishes are like yours (I already own the "hard-core thrower" HS-802 R2) and have now the Manafont F15 in transit, along with the spare C8 SMO reflector.
