BLF Edition ThruNite Saber 1A Group Buy - $19.99

Sorry to hear about the problems with some(how many?) of these lights. I have to say after using mine daily since I received it that it is a very nice light. The threads are tight and smooth, the fit of the pill is much better than my Mini 01, the knurling and anodizing are flawless and the beam is narrow with useable spill. The only improvement I would make is a more evenly spaced medium and I may swap in an XP-G2 R5 3D and even that will be simple due to how the emitter is installed.

i keep missing these deals…

IIRC they were banned from the forum for posting their sale threads in multiple forums instead of sticking to the Commercial Seller's Spot forum.

….but execution and/or QC undermined that. It’s interesting that several people have posted about having no trouble at all with their BLF Saber. Makes me wonder if the “BLF” printing went on lights from different batches.

I’ve gone over mine completely twice now: cleaned all contacts, made sure the pil is tight (it arrived loose), removed the tail spring and cleaned all contact points on spring and tube, tried different batteries, etc. It’s much better now, but I will still sometimes snug it down in “high” mode and the light will flicker or run dim. It’s hard to imagine that this is just a contact problem. And as I noted above, the head thread tolerances mean that the “misfires” of the original T10 are repeated here, which is a pain if you’ve turned the light off on “low” so you can turn it on again on “low” to check on your sleeping children and it skips to “medium”, which is very bright in a darkened room.

What a contrast to Rey’s “Bonny” that has been in my pocket for the past couple of days, working just fine (except for the faulty protection circuit on the batteries - but that’s not a reflection of the light’s quality).

I still think it’s the bottom contact spring that’s causing most of the issues. Since I bent the spring on my saber there have been no issues. I took a few pictures to try and show the problem.

Here’s the way I bent the end of the spring. Sorry for the blurry picture.

Here’s the bottom of the battery tube. I don’t know if you can see it here (kinda hard to take a picture down the tube) but there is a small step near the base where i think the spring was sitting and not making contact with the bare aluminum.

I have got my replacement today.
It works, the threads are clean, no sand, no lube but it is easy to operate and switches on every time without even thinking of a flicker.
The head has a BLF logo, the structure is a bit different on this one. The tail has a even sharper edge as the defective one but I can live with that.

I just have it for some hour but I have twisted it a million times and not even one problem orcurred.

Me too… :_(

That is fantastic news! Was it shipped with a tracking number? I haven’t heard from them since they said one would ship out.

Reckon I must have been lucky as mine seemed ok straight from the off.

Beam is pretty good, rather cool, but not too much. Led is well centred and it seems to work as you’d expect.

That said I have mixed feelings on this torch. It doesn’t tailstand very well at all due to massive recesses in the tail. It has some really sharp edges on these tail recesses too.

The knurling is massively over aggressive and it feels like you are holding a file and makes your fingers/hands sore to hold and use the torch.

It has the nosiest threads I’ve ever heard on anything (even after lubing them). I wouldn’t say they are rough, but compared to my Tank007 EO9 which is silent and smooth in operation, this Thrunite makes one hell of a racket.

You also have to unscrew the head a long way to prevent the light flashing on, there seems to be a fair amount of play and slack in the threads that allows you to push the head down and activate the light. If you don’t unwind it far enough it’ll flash on and off in your pocket and of course lose your last mode memory setting to whatever it last flashed on with.

Overall mixed feelings….

Pros:

-output
-mode spacing
-beam profile
-tint
-well centred LED
-changes mode easily

Cons:

-horrible sharp edges on tail
-file like knurling that litterally sands you hands during use
-very noisy threads
-unwillingness to tail stand
-have to unscrew the head a long way to prevent accidental activation

Good to hear they are replacing them. Waiting for mine also.

I accidentally shorted the circuit on mine when taking tailcap measurements. I asked Thrunite if they could send me a new driver. They said if I sent if back they could replace the whole light for me, but I explained that I had swapped the emitter to Nichia 219 and re-wired the old circuit to direct drive and that I really only wanted a new circuit.

They just sent a whole new replacement and told me to keep the old one. Top service in my opinion.

Yes I got a shipping number.

I have lubed it up and played a bit.

I have interchanged the parts and compared them, the new one has a slightly cooler tint. The old one with new tail, makes no difference still doesn’t work proper, but it can’t be switched on with pushing the parts together like the old one. So I guess the thread on the tail is a bit different but I can’t see difference with bare eye.
I like the machining of the old one more( new one is rougher perhaps they used a bit worn out cnc drills)but the switch on mechanism on the new one works every time(for a twisty it would even be ok if it sometimes doesn’t work).
It feels like if the old one needs to be screwed further in to light up and that it then often makes no real contact or so…I haven’t unscrewed the old pill yet as it was really tight as I tried it and after that I threw it angry in my parts box…I will try that again as I am really curious what the issue is.

I just took a small walk outside with a TF flame( nitecore is too fat) and wow that little light is way more than useful, it pulls 1.7A!!!. It is almost as bright as my mini01. I am so happy that I ordered one.

Have you tried swapping the heads over?

Then you could work out if the problem with the 1st one was in the tail (probably the spring) or the head.

Will pick mine up in the morning from Post Office. Was asleep when it arrived and it came registered.

I’m of the belief that the threads on my old one were so sloppy and loose that they caused contact/ignition problems. Hope the replacement takes care of that.

Mine arrived today. I was pleased to find that with a fresh cell installed the modes worked great, the threads seemed smoother, and the tint was much nicer than the first one. I was thrilled until a little later the whole flickering, skipping modes, turning off or not coming on at all issues started up all over again.

I disassembled the light, cleaned all the threads, lightly sanded the exposed contact edge of the battery tube with super fine grit to ensure it was smooth and perfectly flat, then bent the tail end of the spring base in a little to make sure is was touching the exposed aluminum at the base of the battery tube instead of pressing against the corners of the base.

Now it is working properly again but who knows for how long. I'm not going to bother with yet another defective claim. It is what it is and would just be more of the same I'm afraid. At least the threads and LED tint are good this time. I do think it will be the last twisty Thrunite light I will buy. It seems only their larger lights are better engineered.

I was upset because of the batterytube situation so I decided to grind it a bit wider.
First I removed the anodisation with NaOH+H2O and then I taped a bit of sandpaper on a piece of 9/32” round wood and put this on a drill.
After grinding some time with my selfmade tool it was wide enough to fit a nitecore 14500…
Some of my cheapo nimh still don’t fit but I wanted to use it with liion anyway…

man i missed an awesome deal…just seeing this

Need some help here… my ti3 stopped working maybe because 2 out of 3 solder points looses contact with the copper ring. Do I need to solder it to the ring to make it work?

Hi. Welcome to forum. I don't have an immediate solution. Try putting your question in a thread titled "Need Help with Thrunite Ti3" or something similar. Readers will be more apt to see it than in this older thread dealing with a group buy.

Need any more help just ask. Streamer

Unsure what you mean, do you look in the head from the battery side?
There are 3 contacts, they are soldered but not together. Each point is different.

A picture should help to clarify your question.
