I think adjust output by angle is nice as a gift (a bit different).

Nitecore Sens-FT

i second this i have bought 11 of the L3 Illuminations L10, 3 mode, sofar and all have been perfect. Gave 7 away as gifts to family and friends not one complaint .

Sunwayman R10A or R10R with xp-g2:s at fasttech for $22.80 after BLF coupon!

Haven’t got one myself but looks great with simple UI for the money…

+1 on the sunwayman R10A. Great simple light.

I saw some of these lights during my own search, but i knew this thread would yield many more excellent suggestions
I’m thinking of giving away my Romisen RC G2 R5 CW, and getting the replacement flashlight for myself, especially since some of the suggestions aren’t at all simple like i am looking for, but would be fun for me

+2 on the Sunwayman. Great light for nonflashaholic.

I’d go with the L10.

That’s a good deal.

I know it’s 2xAA but maybe consider the Maglite Pro plus, it’s around RRP $30 and does I think 250 lumen.

sounds interesting, any discounted links?

This has quickly become one of my favorites due to its awesome high-CRI output, nicely-selected modes, good build, and small size. I got the 4-mode version since I use firefly modes a lot.

And if you get the cheaper version ($20), you basically trade the high-CRI tint for somewhat more output.

I don’t know of any, here in Australia we pay a bit of a premium, but I’m pretty sure you could get the maglite pro plus in America from Walmart etc. I know it’s not very frugal of me but I usually just go with ebay because it’s more convienent and safer with paypal. I paid about $44 from America because of $12 postage.

I bought two off this guy: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330917993257?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

There are lots of two AA torches but I’m really impressed with the price point of this particular maglite. My first torch I can remember was a mini maglite (incandescent) I had it for about ten years before I finally lost it, I left it hanging on the fence of a pool I snuck into at night.

Then one night I was walking the dog, I saw what I thought was aluminium on the road ( I wasn’t wearing my glasses) as I got closer I saw it was a torch that was turned on. Someone must have dropped it maybe from a car or something. It was an old mini maglite which had an LED conversion (not a very good one), but I picked it up and took it home.

Anyway again for the price point, I think it’s the best 2xAA light you can get, awesome maglite USA quality, with very high output if you need it, and a cool UI to get to low mode.

Any source except sbflashlights ?

Nope, not that I’m aware of. I think they are actually the ones who make it, and it’s done in relatively small quantities.

I’m just waiting for more choices of anodization color before I order more. I really want a turquoise one, but it’s not available with the 219 emitter. I’d also love a purple one, but they don’t make that color at all.

Supbeam L10 custom made with 219’s and XP-G2’s rebranded as L3 Illumination

Did you decide on anything yet Bort?

Another vote for L3 L10 with nichia.

Fantastic light. Will make anyone a tintwhore. Simple enough for a monkey. If they can’t handle that they don’t deserve a decent light.

Gotta say though, that xpg2 Romi from SBeam looks pretty nice for the price.

Edit: crap. They need a NW version in xpg2. Gonna wait on that.
