FLEX Asgard @ Fasttech

When they make an iOS compatable one, Iā€™d be interested. Unfortunately I no longer have anything but iOS devices in the home as of January

I even love the name Asguard, home of Odin and Thor
Tempting so tempting, Hopefully thereā€™s an app for it someday

Iā€™m not sure Iā€™m the best person to askā€¦ I grew up playing piano because I have long fingers. For me itā€™s more a matter of finding a place to put the light, and not so much about holding it. Ideally itā€™ll be small enough to fit in my purse and light enough to not rip the lining at the seams.

However, I do rather like lights small enough to be carried between fingers like a cigarette. Those are particularly comfy. Anything smaller than a SK-68 works pretty well for me as an EDC.

Just get a $4 BT USB dongle for your PC. Even a Mac can emulate windows if it needs to. They do have a Windows app for the FLEX system in addition to the Android (superior to IOS anyway  ).

This sounds like it has many of the Armytek Predatorā€™s customization virtues. You can even similarly change them on the go with a phone.

Will there be a edc version soon. and if so how small can the light possibly be with a bluetooth reciever and stuff in it?

My home computer is a Mac, Iā€™m not computer inclined enough to get it to use windows to emulate a PC. (Donā€™t want to pay for software either)

Iā€™ll wait for an iOS version of this thatā€™s phone compatible, itā€™s a cool feature but I have programable lights so I can wait for the right one for me

Never thought of the size since nowā€¦
How is the size compared to a c8? Similiar just with2 batts, or much bigger?

IIRC, itā€™s about 2cm longer and the bezel is about 2cm wider. Both are likely due to the bigger reflector. The handle, of course, is twice as wide with the two batteries. (like a Fenix TK35 handle)

Itā€™s not huge, but itā€™ll still require a coat pocket or holster or bag.

I can stuff either a C8 or a SRK into my purse, but in either case the weight is enough to tear the lining a bit at the seams. I suspect the Asgard will only fit in my heavy winter coat pocket or backpack, so I donā€™t expect to be carrying it very often. Then again, Iā€™ve been thinking of un-sewing and re-sewing this purse with a stronger lining material so I can carry more toys. AA, AAA, and 16340 lights are nice, but theyā€™re no substitute for my bigger lights.

Edit: Dimensions:

  • XinTD C8 V4: 155mm long, 45mm head, 25mm body, 185g
  • Fenix TK35: 164mm long, 51.5mm head, 43.6mm body, 256g
  • FLEX Asgard: 174mm long, 65.5mm head, 42mm body, 329g
  • Fenix TK75: 185mm long, 87.5mm head, 52.5mm body, 510g
  • Skyray King: 133mm long, 59mm head, 50mm body, 512g

a nice light in the medium-throwy classā€¦though Iā€™m most looking forward to having this tech in smaller form factors. I look forward to Flex lights in the sub-C8 category (like Convoy M1/M2 or Shiningbeam Blaze) as well as something truly EDCā€™able in jeansā€™ pockets.

To answer some of your questions:

  1. For the Asgard, there are 254 bytes reserved for commands and their accompanying parameters. However, each mode is limited to 64 bytes due to memory constraints. 64 bytes are enough for a morse code about 5-character long, depending on how you encode the message.
  2. The light has a reverse clickie so no it canā€™t stay on while power button is pressed.
  3. Mode groups are called profiles in the app. You can define unlimited number of such profiles, but to switch between them youā€™ll see your smartphone to be around.
  4. There is a group of advanced commands which contains (pseudo) RNG (and more). We will explain on these advanced controls when the app is released.

Thanks! This gives me a much better idea what the light might be capable of.

Iā€™m just waiting for the app now, to see if Iā€™ll be able to run it.

I just want to be clear, this works with Windows XP and up right? The only reason I ask is that a lot of people seem concerned about being able to program this flashlight.

Well, that doesnā€™t sound quite ā€˜rightā€™. Any person who buys this Should and Expects to be able to program it by Bluetooth, either from the PC app, or smartphone app. Thatā€™s the main attraction of this light. So your question comes across as a little ā€˜strangeā€™. If not they would be better off with a ZY-T08.

But we donā€™t know yet anyway. Still gotta wait for the reviews, to confirm it.

I only ask, because Iā€™m pretty sure I saw very early on that they said it would be via windows or Android. But I keep reading people worried that they canā€™t program it. Unless thereā€™s been some information I missed- almost all people have access to Windows or Android devices so Iā€™m asking for confirmation. Ok, let me wade back through and find the info for myselfā€¦.

Edit: That took two secondsā€¦ Fastechs websiteā€¦

Well thatā€™s what I wanted to know.

Yep itā€™s stated in the website. But Iā€™ll see the reviews to further confirm it. I hope the reviewers could test programming via PC and phone

No worries. We will. :)
