Building a high CRI flashlight with "copper mounted sinkpad". Price about 4$ (with beam/CRI shots)

Do you happen to have a stake in a brothel?

how about 50%off 40,000 items?

No need to guess more. OP updated.

if the OP has 40,000 items like a certain vendor we are all thinking of, i’ll be impressed

great build RaceR! I Like that. And it makes me jalous not having much time to do much hard core modding like this.

Very cool build! I like the emitter mount, very creative. Nice job!

Thanks Djozz…
Not sure if an emitter swap is hard-core… But on a second thought. I could probably have done 30+ emitter swaps in the time it took me to do this single one. So, emitter swap, done the hard-core way. :stuck_out_tongue:
When that is said, now that I have gained some knowledge and skills. If I were to do another one of these, it would probably take me 1/5th of the time…

Edit: Thanks Relic

Nifty, I may have to copy you. I have five of those little guys too. Great build write up and awesome comparative pictures. Those color comparison pictures alone make this thread worth stickying or something. Thank you very much.

When Race gets his R motivated
His builds are so cheap they are hated
But the price is so right
We’d buy them all night
And his methods are only R rated

Oh man! HAHAHAHA! At least you saved yourself from using up one of your precious sinkpads.

Nice. The work bench that is. You’ve got yourself a real racey little light there. Very creative.

This is BUDGET light forums ..lets quit discussing expensive lights like this that no one can afford .

Next I suppose you'll be talking about 5$ lights ..where will it end ?

Krono, thought I was the only one left that remembered that movie! lol

Been known to say that and folks look at me in total lack of understanding.

that mod made me smile! Very ingenious and thrifty too. Great to see someone use those bargain basement Nichia 119s too, I remember when they popped up on here. One day when I have time I’ll make some closet lights with them.

To me this has nothing to do with saving money.
This is all about the challenge and the reward of doing it yourself. It does not matter if the flashlight cost is 5$ or 500$. The fun is in the challenge and the making of it. To me, there is no more fun in the challenge of rebuilding a 500$ than a 5$ light. I actually prefer doing it on cheap lights, it adds so much value to them.
This project was about pushing the boundaries of cheapness for a high cri light and on top of that using a “copper sinkpad”. Basically making a high CRI light/zoomie cheaper than I have seen anyone else do. The famous SK68 was a nice light do to it on since everybody is familiar with it. I could actually have used a even cheaper light.

The the funny part is using the side of a copper sinkpad board to mount the emitter. Hence this might be the worlds cheapest high cri sipik with a “copper sinkpad” made to date… :stuck_out_tongue: As far as I have seen at least…

I wonder I there are a few people here who does not know that this Nichia 119 emitter cant just be thrown on a regular XP-G Sinkpad like a Nichia 219. I don’t even know where to buy mcpcb for Nichia 119. Last time someone asked, there was no one on this forum who seemed to know…
So hey, why not make one… To some, that is what modding is all about. Improving stuff, making unique stuff, building the stuff you need with the tools you have right in front of you there and then. On this one, I decided to do it the hard way. Its a challenge.
There is also an easy way to do it. But that is for noobs. Ugly copper Sinkpad with kapton tape beneth is where its at… Much more entertaining!

People have reacted that I used too expensive parts on stuff before, just because I would pay a few more bucks then them for what I consider a better product more fitting to my needs. Now, people react that I do things too cheaply…
Its a tough audience to please at times. :stuck_out_tongue:
Building a light too cheap for some members on BUDGET light forum. 8)

Thanks for the nice comments. I sure hope this one put a smile on someones face.

Ima4wheeler, I think you will find this method “slightly easier” than the way I did it in this thread…

DBCstm, thanks for the poem! 8)

Thanks for sharing the motivation.
It inspires us across this great nation
To make do where it counts
As the pressure it mounts
Back to basics can be our salvation.

As someone with an Ugly Green Face once said,

” Somebody Stop Me!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Does heat have to transfer through the kapton tape? Isn’t it only the positive side that needs to be insulated?
