Solarforce S2200 MT-G2

Enjoy! Gotta run, wife’s surgery is at 8AM, we’ve gotta be there early. I’ll be out for a couple days with her while she’s in the hospital. Will try to check in Wed some time.

Hmm, looks good. The MT-G2 is a huge emitter as compared to the XM-L, is it Cree’s offer to the Luminus/Phlatlight SST90 possibly ? or just a differnet class of chip ?

It's a multi-die emitter, so it's not like those you mentioned.

thanks for all the info - I might have to pull the trigger on one of these bad boys!

How is the out put on extended runtimes? does it stay in regulation for the whole run?

Sure does... or, there's nothing to indicate it doesn't. 3S even completely flat is still well above the LED's Vf so if the cells are capable of providing enough current at that point, it'll stay at full output. The 'low batt' warning, I don't know what it trips at under load, but after the cells are removed from the light they're at 3.3v/cell. That 1+hr run time is the point just where the indicator turns from green to red, which still leaves a good reserve before it's actually out of juice. I've never run mine past that so I don't know what it does if you don't switch it off when it goes red (whether it shifts to a lower mode, or shuts down completely).

My hybrid version does almost exactly the same tailcap numbers as measured by DBCstm, so I think it's pretty clear the driver circuitry isn't changed from the S1100. Only change being the different UI with hidden blinkies which doesn't affect the output.

thanks - it looks like this one might be finding a home in my collection - might wait for a full review just to be safe though

i almost bought the 7g10, but i like the solar force much better

edit: i guess i have some time to decided… everyone at solarforce flashlight sales is on holiday for a bit

Does this have a thermal or timer based step down when run on high continously?

No, none whatsoever. It doesn't even downshift when the batt indicator turns red.

I was wondering why I hadnt gotten a shipment notification from solarforce flashlight sales yet… :weary:

I'm in the same boat.

Just over a week before they get processed and shipped. Seems like a light worth waiting for.

anyone know if long cells - fasttech ncrb 3400s will fit? 70mm +/- long

LOL. Yes.

These measure 65.02mm long, and that's a gap of right at 1/4" at the tail. I actually had to stretch the springs A LOT to get a tight enough fit with these unprotected cells. From the + to the spring squashed flat is 2.76" (or 70.104mm). And due to the contact on the + end having a hollow middle, a button top cell won't waste any of the available space.

Foy’s review tested some 70mm long cells and according to him they work ok.

Solarforce is on a 2 week vacation starting on the 14th, orders will be shipped when they return according to a post by them.

I ordered mine hours before they went on vacation, they got it out and it only took 6 days to get to me. Sweet huh? Now I’m stuck away from home and can’t play with it. :frowning:

On the good side, my wife is recovering nicely from surgery, soaking up Morphine and Dilaudid and sleeping like a baby.

LOL well that combo will do it. Glad she’s doing well.

Thanks for the bookshelf shots. This light looks awesome. (So does that triple nichia!)

Was going to buy the S2200 but I think I will hold off for this one http://www.armytek.com/products/flashlights/search-and-rescue/armytek-grizzly-mkr-variable-bezel-colors.html they have a warm one too http://www.armytek.com/products/flashlights/search-and-rescue/armytek-grizzly-mk-r-warm.html I think you’ll get best of both worlds, same output like the S2200 but with better throw @ 4° and 40° spill. They were going to use the MK-R led but changed to the MT-G2.

  • World's first MT-G2 LED flashlight!
  • Record light output 2120 lumen
  • Excellent throw
  • Ideal for high-output applications
  • Powered by two 18650 Li-Ion

How can they claim “World’s first MT-G2 LED flashlight!”? Crelant is shipping one, as is SolarForce, and maybe Niwalker, whereas what’s on their webpage looks like a crude drawing?

Yes agreed on the first MT-G2 light thing - but I just updated my post (after I was quoted) I guess they just left the original blurb the same because they were going to use the MK-R led, so it would have been the first MK-R light……

These companies are so stressed out to show their ideas that keep adding "out of stock" flashlights.

Record output of 2000lumens they say. They go for those who don't know anything about flashlights.

Yes, but you get a $25 discount on the light that doesn’t exist.
