Solarforce S2200 MT-G2

Yes, but you get a $25 discount on the light that doesn’t exist.

Yes its a cad drawing proof of concept - Armytek lights are designed in Canada, they allow a lot of customer input as they design and produce their lights so they change things with customer input - also they are some of the best made lights out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvA79TAMu6c

The same specs are for the XM-L2 http://www.armytek.com/products/flashlights/search-and-rescue/armytek-barracuda-xm-l2-variable-bezel-colors.html

I like armytek brand in general, but that page for their MTG light raises more questions than answers.

That image appears to merely be a rendering of their Barracuda. Which is a great light, but not new. So is it just an MTG version of the Barracuda? Or a legit unique whole new model?

This will obviously not be the first MTG on the market, and those specs don’t really make sense to me. How do they plan to drive the MTG on 2 li-ions? I was under the impression 3 was the minimum to drive this emitter well for any length of time.

Seems like they are playing catch up. Better to slow down, do it right, and bring it to market when its a mature product worth buying. I don’t see the point in rushing a halfassed MTG light to market just to say “look everybody we gots tha newest badazz MTGz yo!” (Listening crelant?)

They would need a buck/boost driver.

+1. Exactly what I was thinking. They see a few MT-G2 lights and knock out a CAD drawing (and a price!!) without, it seems to me, too much homework. 2x18650’s will struggle, I would imagine.

That’s what I like about Niwalker. It’s probably about six months since they mooted the idea of a light with this emitter. In the meantime they have been sending Selfbuilt engineering samples, and ironing out any issues. Better to be late and get it right, than early and crap.

i think this just sealed the deal for me - i have 6x fasttech 3400s on my shelf

There's only two things about it I would change, one bugs me pretty bad, and the other is just something to make it perfect. First, the annoying thing, is the tailcap clickie. Really awkward and inconvenient in a light this big. The 'just to make it perfect' thing, would be to have it take 4 cells instead of 3. That's not a lot to find wrong from somebody who usually wants to change everything.

i dont mind the tailcap clicky - my defiant 3d has one and is even bigger than the s2200

i do like 4 cell lights myself - would another cell in series add anything? i guess it would depend on the driver… more efficiency depending on the driver?

im going to add this to my “purchase list” if i still want it unconditionally after memorial day when solarforce flashlight sales comes back i will buy

Seems like the Niwalker will be shipping their Black Light Vostro BK-FA02 (MT-G2) lights to dealers around June 1. Price quoted as $179.99.

Ouch. Thats expected street price or retail?

Really hope that's the retail price... otherwise, OUCH, no thanks, I'll stick to the TK75.

I know they are not really that similar, but would like to see beamshot comparo of some of these MTGs vs TK75.

I don't really have anywhere with the space to truly let these lights stretch their legs, but I'll try with the 7G10 tonight if the weather is good.

To me, they are somewhat similar, although, the TK75 wins out both in power and throw by a wide margin.

That MTG2 light has a much smaller reflector, but the huge reflector on the 7G10 really doesn't do as much I expected vs the smaller one on the EA8.

hmm maybe i should wait then

I have a Senior Photo Shoot this evening, going to take the S2200 with me and see if I can get some kick butt track shots, this kids a record setting decathlon winner…just signed with Texas Longhorns and has 3 Junior Olympics Gold Medals under his belt. Will be attempting to break the National record early next month AND get his 4th Gold Medal. Then he’s heading to Wash DC for the PanAm games after a stop-over for a big meet in North Carolina.

As a Decathlon runner, he placed 4th in the 400m against the States top specialists in the 400 last week. PDQ!

Hope to get something good, and hope to light it up with this light, if I’m fortunate enough to get something smashing, I’ll give y’all a look. (Remember, I’ve been up something like 35 hours with my wife in the hospital so it’s gonna be a crap shoot, lol) {figuratively, hopefully}

The S2200 worked quite well to light up Wolf. Got these 2, among others…

Shot about 10 minutes after sundown with some flash from my 5DMkII and the S2200 from about 30 yds.

I don’t know a lot of his Decathlon numbers, but I know he’s pole vaulting 16’ or better and runs a 47.56 400m. He blows off the field in the 1500 every time, usually by 120 yds or more. Won last years National Jr Olympics in 110º heat, 10 events in 2 days. 800 points shy of a National Record, his pole broke a foot from the ground end during competition on day 2 and the 1’ that was in the pit snapped up and hit him in the crotch with such force was throwing up for 20 minutes, but then put in a good enough jump to tie for second, then threw the discus and shot and blew off the field in the 1500 by some 120+ yds, with swelling and pain enough to cripple most guys. Pulled a hamstring on day one in the 110 hurdles. That was as a 17 yr old Junior in High School.

In a track meet this year, he hit a hurdle in the 110m hurdles hard enough to take him down to a knee, he got up and still won by well over a second. This one’s a tough cookie for real! In one really tough 400m against guys that specialize in the 400, he won the race with such an effort that he crashed at the finish line. Told reporters later that it was “a beautiful race. It’s great when we can challenge each other and push each other to new heights” , loves competition to the fullest.

Hope to get to go to one of his major meets for some prime-time shots. We’ll see.

This light is equally impressive. Not a thrower, but still putting great light downrange and filling the area between. Really enjoying it, the little time I’ve gotten to play with it.

How did you use the S2200 to light up the shots?

Would please post some comparison beam shots (EA8 mod vs 7G10)? Maybe also a side by side how big is the 7G10 vs the EA8.

An interesting fact is that all companies say MT-G2 LED, but none mention the bin, not all need to be the top P0.

There were a couple threads on the 7g10 around here somewhere….
