Solarforce S2200 MT-G2

I know they are not really that similar, but would like to see beamshot comparo of some of these MTGs vs TK75.

I don't really have anywhere with the space to truly let these lights stretch their legs, but I'll try with the 7G10 tonight if the weather is good.

To me, they are somewhat similar, although, the TK75 wins out both in power and throw by a wide margin.

That MTG2 light has a much smaller reflector, but the huge reflector on the 7G10 really doesn't do as much I expected vs the smaller one on the EA8.

hmm maybe i should wait then

I have a Senior Photo Shoot this evening, going to take the S2200 with me and see if I can get some kick butt track shots, this kids a record setting decathlon winner…just signed with Texas Longhorns and has 3 Junior Olympics Gold Medals under his belt. Will be attempting to break the National record early next month AND get his 4th Gold Medal. Then he’s heading to Wash DC for the PanAm games after a stop-over for a big meet in North Carolina.

As a Decathlon runner, he placed 4th in the 400m against the States top specialists in the 400 last week. PDQ!

Hope to get something good, and hope to light it up with this light, if I’m fortunate enough to get something smashing, I’ll give y’all a look. (Remember, I’ve been up something like 35 hours with my wife in the hospital so it’s gonna be a crap shoot, lol) {figuratively, hopefully}

The S2200 worked quite well to light up Wolf. Got these 2, among others…

Shot about 10 minutes after sundown with some flash from my 5DMkII and the S2200 from about 30 yds.

I don’t know a lot of his Decathlon numbers, but I know he’s pole vaulting 16’ or better and runs a 47.56 400m. He blows off the field in the 1500 every time, usually by 120 yds or more. Won last years National Jr Olympics in 110º heat, 10 events in 2 days. 800 points shy of a National Record, his pole broke a foot from the ground end during competition on day 2 and the 1’ that was in the pit snapped up and hit him in the crotch with such force was throwing up for 20 minutes, but then put in a good enough jump to tie for second, then threw the discus and shot and blew off the field in the 1500 by some 120+ yds, with swelling and pain enough to cripple most guys. Pulled a hamstring on day one in the 110 hurdles. That was as a 17 yr old Junior in High School.

In a track meet this year, he hit a hurdle in the 110m hurdles hard enough to take him down to a knee, he got up and still won by well over a second. This one’s a tough cookie for real! In one really tough 400m against guys that specialize in the 400, he won the race with such an effort that he crashed at the finish line. Told reporters later that it was “a beautiful race. It’s great when we can challenge each other and push each other to new heights” , loves competition to the fullest.

Hope to get to go to one of his major meets for some prime-time shots. We’ll see.

This light is equally impressive. Not a thrower, but still putting great light downrange and filling the area between. Really enjoying it, the little time I’ve gotten to play with it.

How did you use the S2200 to light up the shots?

Would please post some comparison beam shots (EA8 mod vs 7G10)? Maybe also a side by side how big is the 7G10 vs the EA8.

An interesting fact is that all companies say MT-G2 LED, but none mention the bin, not all need to be the top P0.

There were a couple threads on the 7g10 around here somewhere….

Hey guys, you’ll have to bear with me, it’s my first ever review of anything…

Just got mine today, my first impression is this thing is huge! Makes the TK75 and even the TN31 look small, which is surprising considering it supposedly throws better than the S1100 which is based on the same body. To me at least, the size is just a little too big, makes it less likely that it’s the light i’ll pick up most when i need one. It’s the reason I skipped on the BTU Shocker, not that this is as big or heavy as that beast :D. This is my major gripe with the light which i should have looked up before buying, more on that later. My one other issue is the modes. While i love the fact the strobe is hidden, I wish it had more than a low>med>hi, just feel it could have done with one or two more as the low just isn’t low enough. I also would have preferred if there was a standby mode in there, instead of having to turn off at the hard to reach tail switch every time.

Build quality is just spectacular, so much better than i was expecting! This is no understatement, it honestly makes the TM26 feel cheap. Besides the lens being a bit grotty out of the box, my example was absolutely flawless. threads are totally smooth and well greased. The knurling is brilliant, provides enough grip while feeling good in the hand. Easily fits longer 18650 cells too, not like TN31 which barely squeezes my Panasonic 3100’s in.

The reflector on this thing is very deep, without measuring it, it seems deeper than the TN31 even. However due to the size of the emitter the throw isn’t what you’d expect for a reflector of this size. What it does provide though, is an amazing beam that to me is a good for general purpose use. Throws quite well and has a great usable spill, but as the old saying goes, jack of all trades, master of none!

Tint is amazing! I don’t have any neutral or warm white lights yet (got an EC25W on the way) and I MUCH prefer the colour of this MT-G2 compared to all of my other lights, by far!!! All I really have to compare it to are XP-G2’s, XM-L U2’s, U3’s and XM-L2 U2’s, but it just seems much warmer and colours much better. However, not sure if it’s a consequence of the warmer tint or not, it just doesn’t seem as bright as I expected. Not that it looks dull, not by a long shot… I was just expecting more. Comparing it to the lights i have by me it seems somewhere in between the TN31 XM-L2 and the TK75, though I feel it’s closer to the former.

As stated earlier my main gripe with the light is it’s size. The tail switch is rather hard to use one handed due to the size of the light, not impossible but it requires a fair stretch of the thumb. To me it’s just past that size that i consider to be easily usable for what it does. I could understand if it was a light that was an amazing thrower or a huge flooder and while it does both well, it does neither exceptionally. If you’re after a big, beautiful all-rounder of exceptional quality for a fairly decent price then this could be for you. However it’s problem is it’s priced a little too close to the TK75 at the moment, and I know which I prefer… If it drops down closer to the current S1100 price then i’d be much more likely to recommend it.

Will try to update with first ever beamshots (so won’t be good) on the weekend, and tailcap readings as soon as my multimeter arrives

His Dad held the s2200 on him from about 30 yds back. This let me get a much higher shutter for the stop action and gave the more pleasing tones. The camera flash fills at 5700K so is too daylight white a lot of times if you dont use gels.

thanks for the feedback gavrook

sounds like you need more neutrals + warms bruv! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good job! Im sure Dad will hang that one on the wall.

yeah those shots are great with that light

lol, ok, so the storm isn’t here yet…but it is dark and the S2200 does fire up the night. (with lightning flashes in the distance)

Control shot…notice the US flag is lit, but there’s no light visible on the barn.

The S2200 on Hi, firing up the barn(or at least making it visible) at 607 yards!

And the same angle as I’ve shown before at 50 yds, but this time at 97 yds. …the red oil drum

And with this walk on a dark and stormy night, I’ve decided to keep this big chunk of awesomeness! Spot cleared on the shelf, the new King is crowned! (For me, biggest, brightest {with a challenger} best built light I own)

Feel free to click the pic for a larger look in Flickr, the original sized shot (downsized but still large) plainly shows quite a lot of light at over 600 yds and makes anything within 100+ yards easy to shoot at. Good enough for me! >)

Yep, that neutral tint really makes your pictures come out nice.

WOW, nice beamshots and nice place.

My dream is live in place like that, without neighbors to annoying me and darkness to shine with my light  :stuck_out_tongue:

To give some perspective to that shot of the barn, the tree on the right is in our field and is 180 yds from the light. The 2 trees that appear to have the barn surrounded are not close to the barn at all, not even on the same property! The tree that is “in front of the flag” is 310 yds from the light (yes, fully 300 yards from the barn) and the tree to the left of the barn is on the opposite side of a driveway from the flag tree and 295 yds from the light.

The shot towards our shed at 97 yards is covering a swath about 36 yards wide in the picture. Virtually a football field with light on it! And no real hot spot visible. That’s a LOT of light!

pretty impressive. I see more good things coming with this emitter.

does anyone know how the pwm is on medium/low? if there is any…

the website says “stable current regulated output” does this mean on all modes?

I know there’s no noise, used it on low walking last night and it’s nice. Med is about like most good P-60 drop-ins, but with excellent color. I’ve got the cells charging but will try to get some info on pwm here directly. I’ve got some alternate cells I can use.

How do you recommend I check that? Ceiling fan? Shower?
