Gee, somebody seems to have given me this little jewel for some testing (hope he doesn’t want it back… :party: ) So, I did a little testing:

high: 261 lumens 5533K
medium: 84 lumens 5530 K 4221 Hz PWM
low 14.8 lumens 5360K 4221 Hz PWM

The driver looks like it is based upon the standard Nanjg firmware with some residual PWM on high…

Then I did some more testing. On high, it gets hot rather fast (10C rise every 90 seconds). Drops are 2 lumens and 10K CCT per minute. Temp rises around 10C every 90 seconds. I stopped testing when it got to 60C.

In the graph, the LUX plot is actually lumens (I’ve been comparing the responses to two different light sensors, the one on the LUX channel is better). The center line of the plots are the values.

Thank you for doing this test. What spot/area is the temp test measuring? The led Sinkpad is only 11mm in Dia and the rest of the copper portion of the pill is a cylinder maybe 7mm long, not much for a 1A led. Is that about 6 1/2 minutes on high to 60 C? The driver was I believe an IO or IS 1.4 A driver(I buy both and can’t tell one from the other) before the 7135’s were removed and replaced with 380 bins.

I don’t think the light will be on high for long as runtime would be only 20 min but I would have liked it to be able to run out the battery. Not this time I guess. Still, decent output for a small light.

The thermocouple was on the copper fins (under a styrofoam packing peanut).

The test started with the thermocouple at around 30C (due to handling it). Room temp was 25C. After 6.5 minutes it hit 60C. So figure 5C per minute rise.

Very nice, excellent work there Texas Pyro! So after only 7 minutes I can reheat my coffee with this pretty little firestick! :slight_smile: In 12 minutes it might boil water, naaa, the cell would be too far gone. It’s definately working it’s lil butt off, for sure.

What do you think RBD? Respectable numbers? I think so, 261 is a LOT of light from such a small package, You did good!

TexasPyro, did you run it off of a power supply or a live cell? We planned it out for an Efest IMR 10440, it might very well run out a standard cell without reaching critical heat levels, but of course wouldn’t hit the lumens mark benchmarked here.

I ran it off the cell. It seems to hold regulation quite well, only dropping a couple of lumens per minute.

I doubt I’ll run it more than 5 minutes at a time on high, never can tell what situation will arise but I’d think I have other options for the occasions that much time is needed. Most likely Hi won’t get used but a couple minutes at a time, if that.

Incredible performance for such a little beast! 6.5 minutes seems good to me for reaching 60 celcius considering how little mass it actually has. I have big lights that get hotter in less time. Heck, my Micromags don't shed heat that well.

I sent the light with a new charged cell(tape on B-). Efest site reccommended removing the label and I do so as it’s a bit snug otherwise. At 6.5 min the cell should be fine to ship half charged.

Thank you Johnny. I have to admit I was a little nervous when cutting into the head of this one. At the time I didn’t know if the thread portion would survive and for me having the bezel come right to the copper is a big part of the looks. Dale deserves the credit for that as I was going to chicken out and cut behind the knurling but he wanted it this way instead. I really like the flush look but it would not take much added Dia to double the fin surface area. A AA micromag could probably take another fin without looking too long in the head as well.

Guess we could’ve done away with the knurling in the head for a few more fins, but I wanted to be able to grip that section instead of the copper fins to rotate the head turning it off and on.

The numbers on Kelvin temperature are very good to see as well, I may very well end up using this one quite a bit in conjunction with macro photography. :slight_smile: put this lil bad boy to work. lol

I know there’s always a different way to do something, what if the knurling was split, and an extra fin (maybe 2) were added? Naaa, looks brilliant this way…wouldn’t look at all bad with no knurling and those couple extra fins though.

Whadya think RBD, is it watertight enough to dunk it for cooling? Doesn’t really matter if you think it is or not, I could NEVER dunk a hot light in water! lol Really looking forward to this one, gonna have to start wearing shirts with pockets…

You could ask Jacktheclipper to make you a paracord handle wrap with a short loop for neck carry clip. The pocket clip will probably scratch the battery tube anyway. Then it would still head/tail stand. I’m glad you like the way it turned out. There are many ways to go with this and only one first one.

There ya go RBD, as an alternative you could disassemble MRsDNFs lathe and modify it into a shop light utilizing MT-G2 emitters and copper heat sinks. :wink: Since he’s not using the lathe, the light would help him finish that legendary picnic table he’s been working on for 12 years now! Then he can throw a big Bar-B-Que and we’d all be invited! Yeah baby!
