My own asessments & questions.

First I know this is a bit of a older light. But, Damn! This thing has the most awesome beam I have ever seen. No discoloration or artifacts. Just a nice sizeable hotspot with smooth even corona.

It is super well built & much smaller than I expected. It unscrews in the middle for battery carrier access. It uses 18650 (2) or CR123 (6). Both carriers were included with this light. Along with presentation box, lanyard, diffuser, extra parts. Everything I needed.

I have to admit… This light makes me feel very nostalgic. It reminds me ( Size & Shape) of the old flashlights of my youth. Except this one ate it’s spinach & would be kicked out of any competition for the use of performance enhancing pharmaceuticals.

The curious thing to me is the orange peel reflector. Why is this done? They say the OP reflector is what makes the beam of this light awesome. But, why? What are the pro’s & cons of OP versus standard reflectors? Thanx for reading D

Orange peel reflectors average out any variations in intensity of the beam from the LED and its surrounding.

+1 Thanks! It certainly shows…

The SR51 was the first “real ” light that my brother bought. It is pretty responsible for the madness we are possessed with today. Lol. Still one of his favorites.

Super nice light….

Built like a tank with beautiful knurling. Olight builds awesome lights

You trade you V3 for it?

Got this & a small sun zy-T08

Not sure why…. Just personal preference I guess

Well I would say you and Brad both picked up fine lights. Darn good trade for both of you. Congrats.

Just that long handle … This 51 just suits me better. Just waiting for Brad to take the V3 out & play with it & report in.

I am waiting and waiting for a clone of this baby to come out. Timeless form factor.

+1

Dale,

I told you the beam on that light was the best out of my entire collection. And that’s saying something if I can say that without boasting, but rather giving credit to the Olight SR51 which is now yours. That light will fool anyone on how light it is. Olight done well. That was my first real good light purchase.

I got the Catapult V3 XM-L2 U2 in the mail Sat since it now is 12:50AM my time. I posted pictures already. I love it.

Foy is certainly no expert but driven the way I imagine it is, with that wide opening around the emitter, a 63mm diameter OP reflector is going to have throw, just not as much as an SMO. That is actually why I think an Olight beam is so damn impressive. They put the emitter at a very precise depth in relation to the reflector and they meant to arrive at that exact degree of stippling.

Nothing on an Olight is an accident.

The SR50 version with an SST-50 had a killer beam too. Was SMO, I think?

I know they say a smooth reflector throws better, and I believe it does. But I’m telling you the SR51 would out throw my FandyFire STL-V6 by a little bit. The op reflector wasn’t like the op reflector on a lot of flashlights.

The funny thing is, my only Olight is an i6 that I bought 2 or 3 months ago. I am so impressed with that torch! Like yours, It has the nicest beam of all my lights, by far. It throws way more than it should and has lots of spill. It also seems so much brighter than it should be for 1.5A.

I am now a big Olight fan.

Marc.

Here’s what Olight had for the specs.

That probably is real close.

Thanks man! I pulled the product specs down off Amazon… I thought the 700 meter throw was a bit of a dellusion of granduer. But all in all a awesome light. 475 meters is a bit more believable.

The SR51 will compete with the Sunwyaman T40CS and Olight M3X.
