OLIGHT SR51 ( Picture Heavy )

Foy is certainly no expert but driven the way I imagine it is, with that wide opening around the emitter, a 63mm diameter OP reflector is going to have throw, just not as much as an SMO. That is actually why I think an Olight beam is so damn impressive. They put the emitter at a very precise depth in relation to the reflector and they meant to arrive at that exact degree of stippling.

Nothing on an Olight is an accident.

The SR50 version with an SST-50 had a killer beam too. Was SMO, I think?

I know they say a smooth reflector throws better, and I believe it does. But I’m telling you the SR51 would out throw my FandyFire STL-V6 by a little bit. The op reflector wasn’t like the op reflector on a lot of flashlights.

The funny thing is, my only Olight is an i6 that I bought 2 or 3 months ago. I am so impressed with that torch! Like yours, It has the nicest beam of all my lights, by far. It throws way more than it should and has lots of spill. It also seems so much brighter than it should be for 1.5A.

I am now a big Olight fan.

Marc.

Here’s what Olight had for the specs.

That probably is real close.

Thanks man! I pulled the product specs down off Amazon… I thought the 700 meter throw was a bit of a dellusion of granduer. But all in all a awesome light. 475 meters is a bit more believable.

The SR51 will compete with the Sunwyaman T40CS and Olight M3X.

My neighbor was a bit shocked at the brightness… Jesus , Dude… What kinda flashlight is that? … LOL

Absolutely. There should be more side by side 2x18650 lights around.

Olights are good lights. I still like my s35 a lot, even though other 3xaa / 4xaa soda can lights are out now.

Great little general purpose light. Well made, good feel, simple UI, no frills. What you need and nothing more. (If only the tint was more neutral.)

KInda a cross between the old retro lights & the new high tech throwers. Kinda a middle range light. Not a EDC, I guess you could think of it as a intermediate size search light.

MySR51 always tests at about 52K which is very good for an OP reflector. The lumens tends to fall a little short of the listed 900 lumens, I think closer to 850 otf if I remember correctly. Along with the throw, it also has the nicest and widest flood of anything in its class that we own, such as the M3C4, 7G5, HD2010, etc.
It’s an awesome light. The ONLY issue I find with it is a lack of a true low. Would have been nice to have a level under 100 lumens. But it is a SR - search and rescue - marketed light, so I new that when I bought it.

The low isn’t very low ar all. But a firefly mode on a search light prolly wouldnt be recevied well… Lol. I can see the SR51 taking its place as one of my all time favorites.

nice light dale! - strange… it looks like its almost asking to be modded? J)

Great minds think alike. TBH, I wouldn’t want ti mess thebeam profile up. I imagine it could be turned into a total beast. But I wont sacrifice the beam. If I need some longer & brighter? I’ll just reach in the curio.

I believe if you just changed it to an XM-L2 U2 emitter and did nothing else the beam profile wouldn’t change. I still do not blame you for keeping it stock. The Olight SR51 is a classic and a standard for quality lights.

That dont use battery packs?

Just hold down the blue button. The light cycles itself thru low & high. How did this feature not catch on? Very handy for us lazy folks.

you need a zebralight if you like that electronic switch

Alas, I have one last light to purchase Friday. Then I’m gonna have to take a hiatus. Mrs D is walking around here looking like a angry Pitbull chewing on hot pine tar. Between trades & purchases I’ve gotten 10 new lights in the last 2 weeks… Time to take a break, in the interest of personal safety.

I am approaching a similar situation myself. It happens….

buy her a hand bag and keep buying lights
