FLEX Asgard @ Fasttech

Congrats on your Asgardā€¦.I think the bluetooth must be class 2 and not class 1, I asked about it but never got a reply; class 1 would certainly give better range.

Thanks! I think it should be Class 3 instead, range of approx 1m. Class 2 has range of approx 10m.

You actually Want Class 3? Why?? Class 3 is very uncommon and rated @ 1mW & 1m as you statedā€¦ā€¦Hmm maybe it has a Class 3 in it and that is why the range is not that great; I just figured it was just the metal case that was causing the range to be less than desired and that would cause that effectā€¦ā€¦but yea Class 3 would really limit it.

Class 1 has a power output of 100mW which gives you 100 meters depending upon environmental conditions. I really thought they used Class 2 which is 2.5mW going out to 10m which is very common.

Do what I did with Magnet use. Get yourself from Crazy Glue in gel form. I got mine at the Dollar Tree for, you guessed it, $1. Put your magnet on the battery and center it. Once centered put a small bead of the crazygel around the base of the magnet. This will keep the magnet from moving on you as well as keep it firmly in place if you drop the light.

Just remember, no glue under the magnet. Just put a bead around the base perimeter. ;)

I was saying the one currently in the Asgard should be Class 3. I also initially thought they would use Class 2! Thought I could control the light across the room, but no :frowning:

Thanks for suggesting. Glue under the magnet would be cool, there goes the battery!

Instead of a magnet, I use a solder blob on the positive end. No way it will move around

With my previous-now-destroyed driver, I was connecting more or less reliably at 8-inches to a foot. One time it seemed almost 3-feet . . . well, an arm's length anyway. It would hardly connect at all if it was parallel to my phone but all I had to do is move the phone ahead of the reflector a little bit and it hooked up and stayed connected fairly stable.

Ahhh, those were the days . . .

You know, they really should have incorporated WIFI, rather than BT, which is what I originally guessed was what they were doing. I think itā€™d be much more useful, and would open up a hugeĀ® number of possibilitiesā€¦ JMO though :(ā€¦

Just out of curiosity, anyone experimented to see if the BT range improves with the reflector out and the antenna clear of the body? And/or has anyone having connection issues tried that?

I think it is Not Good that there is an Antenne Printed on the PCb and that the wire to the Other Antenna is nonshielded, so we get One Big weird Antenna.

Yeah, mines not really connecting at all.

Agreed... I will be cutting the trace for the onboard antenna, leaving just enough to allow attaching the extension. I have 2 drivers, I may do one each way and see if it makes any difference.

I gotta tell yaā€¦pretty happy I didnā€™t pony up the dough to get the Asgardā€¦essentially paying to be FTā€™s guinea pig.

Beyond the hypeā€¦wouldnā€™t it make much more sense to use a wired USB connection instead of wireless? The bluetooth has to be about 1-3 feet away from your phone/PCā€¦so theres no big advantage there.

Sureā€¦you could easily program it out in the fieldā€¦but you could do the same if wired. Yeahā€¦would be easier to accomplish this wirelessly (assuming the wireless worksā€¦lol) But realisticallyā€¦how many times will most normal people have to do that? Iā€™m betting once in a bluetooth moon.

I think the technology is cool and allā€¦but in my opinion the Asgard should have gone through much more testing before launch.

I tell ya, I know theyā€™ll get it resolved- but Iā€™m a little irritated that I was sorta forced into buying it before may 31st to get the $10 discount for a light that still isnā€™t ready for production. Right now I paid $43 for a light that is a 3 mode without memory. That and I scuffed my reflector trying to get it to work- and itā€™s still a no go.

And if I buy a set of batteries for it, like Iā€™m going to need- itā€™s suddenly a $60ish light. A light that weā€™re all paying to be the beta testers for.

Not wanting to rub it in, but minr connected to my galaxy s3 flawlessly every time, and Iā€™ve just tested and once paired, I can control the modes from 5m away horizontally with the reflector pointing at the phone. With it set on the floor tail standing and me stood up, I get the same range.

I do wonder if the bluetooth emission strength is limited in America compared to the UK and that is the cause of the issues.

Was it worth being a guinea pig? to me, yes, this is to me the most exciting driver set up Iā€™ve seen, I wanted in badly, the only issue Iā€™ve had is my bum programming, hardly fasttechā€™s fault as I was one of the ones demanding full access.

What was fun was a friend popped over to have his air con gassed, he also wanted to see some of my builds. He did like them, but when I connected to the asgard and started playing he was really blown away, he really wasnā€™t expecting someone to be able to do that.

It helps that I love the zy-t08 form factor, this is to me a damm good, customer configurable light, small enough to use under a vehicle (yep, Iā€™ve been using it at work) enough output for most needs, Iā€™m a happy camper.

My Asgard with the old driver connected on the first try every time within about a foot. It even connected one time at almost 3 feet. It pretty much behaved like a Bluetooth earpiece but connectivity did suffer a bit when the reflector was pointed away from the phone.

For whatever reason, that old setup with the original apk worked almost perfect for me.

Iā€™m using windows XP. I think they havenā€™t worked out all the bugs yet, because Iā€™m guessing most people are using their Android phones. For what itā€™s worth I also tried the app on a windows 7 machine, and it behaved very similarly. Iā€™ve used the built in bluetooth on both laptops and also tried a cheap bluetooth dongle Iā€™ve had for a while on the XP unit. Depending on whether I was using the dongle or the built in (recently updated drivers) bluetooth, it may not display the correct voltage. The windows 7 machine would display the correct voltage and temp, but it gave me the same error to quit or continue when Iā€™d try to read data from the light.

The way it behaved similarly on both machines is: that the first time Iā€™d connect, Iā€™d set my modes and enable mode memory. Iā€™d click update- it would almost instantly say the light had been updated. Iā€™d disconnect and then the light wouldnā€™t have any of my modes- just default. Then when Iā€™d connect again- itā€™s connect, but then it wouldnā€™t let me set any modes or rename anything. Iā€™d give me the error message and itā€™s crash when Iā€™d tried to rename a profile.

If I deleted the user data from the folder, then I could go back and try ā€œreprogramā€ the light, update it- and nothing would be saved when powering the light on.

Seems like the android users have a better app, and it also seems like everyone else is getting the light to work but me. Is it operator error? This shouldnā€™t be hardā€¦ And by the way, I do have a ticket opened.

Got my Asgard todayā€¦ I am not very impressed. Build quality is really low. The Bezel has scratches and there was dirt on the led. Sadly the reflector has some scratches and finger prints tooā€¦ The finger prints you only see when the light is turned onā€¦ Very bad :frowning:

I have connection issues tooā€¦ With my Windows PC it is impossible to programā€¦ With at least on of my smartphones I get connection and was able to program it. But the light has to be very very close (just 2-3cm) away from the phone, and in a ā€œspecialā€ angle. When I place the flashlight on the head e.g. its not working.

I think the bluetooth thing is very funny - But it doesnt make fun when you first have to spend minutes to find a perfect angle where it connectsā€¦ And then these scratches, bad solder work and the led not really well connected to the pill.

I really dont know what to do :frowning:
