Review: Sunwayman D40A 4xAA XM-L2 Flashlight

Hehehe, this never ends. There are some misleading things in life like terms PITA and poop deck

Thank you for the review! It seems like a lot of attention to detail was made during the design. Now if only a manufacturer could just combine the best of EA4W and D40A!

PITA = Pain In The @ss ! or is it something else?
In serbian language “pita” is actually a “pie”, like: apple pie…

Updated the review with Standby current measurements.
Off: 1mA
Locked out: ~2mA
Manual states standby at <30uA. Just a bit off the mark.
I don’t know why locked out draws more, but it does.
I suggest anyone leaving the light for weeks at a time remove the cells or use the physical lockout method, loosen the body about 1/8th of a turn.

The path to ruin and bankruptcy. J)

BTW, this thread just cost me 149 from FT. You guys are despicable!

And just like that, FT starts selling it at well above the group buy price. Awesome.

How is it drawing more current when “locked out”? More contact resistance?

1mA, 2mA, really? lmao

Eneloop has 2000mAh

2mA => 1000h = 42days omfg

1mA => 2000h = 83days omg

is at least tailcap lockout possible??

i do tailcap lockout with my tm15 and sc52 no problem!

“Tailcap” lockout is possible; no current drawn that way.
Electronic lockout seems to draw more current (2mA) than with the light off and not locked out (1mA). I have no idea why.

Thanks for the review relic38.
I found myself in a flashaholic stupor as I read each spec. Resistance was futile. After ordering, the color is returning to my cheeks, and I can speak in sentences once again.

It’s nice spending vicariously through BLF members
You’ll enjoy that light; trust me, I’m a (torch) doctor.

Thanks for the review. This light will really compete directly with EA4.
May I know where the star screwed in? I mean is the body aluminum unibody or it is made of aluminum tube.

The star appears to screw into an integrated plate which is part of the head. I believe the head is one piece of aluminum.
The thermal performance is backing that up too.

Thanks relic38 for your reply.
Man, this is tearing me apart. I am almost ready to buy XENO cube. Now this D40A is so tempting with FT price.
If I buy any of them, they will be my first XENO or Sunwayman.

Ordered one even before finished reading - just in case…
I was ready to delegate my AA lights to just back-up and indoor use.
Happy to see AA batteries used so well - first in the EA4 and now the D40A.
I really like the size/performance ratio and the convenience of using the AA format.
Thanks for the review !

Successfully resisted yesterday. It was hard. Money goes to Xeno Cube V8.
If only D40A was released earlier, I already got EA4, too late for me.

SWM is way better than NC build and quality. U should reconsider getting one Dengoh.

I got EA4 earlier at US$65 before FT carrying her. I see huge temptation for D40A at FT current price.
Too bad fund is limited or should say guilt of buying too many lights surfaced. Wish that FT will have stock when I decide to get one.

That is good to hear. That puts this light above the EA4 in my books. Now to get that neutral version and there’s your winner
