Review: Sunwayman D40A 4xAA XM-L2 Flashlight

No one knows the reason yet, this torch is sent back to seller according to the original owner.
Owner mentioned he switched on the light and it was fine, then he played with it for a moment, and then it could not be switched on anymore. He thought batteries were emptied, and he put it aside his bed and went to sleep. When he woke up, he found it to be very very hot.
I am wondering can it be over tightened and crack the insulator. Just speculating at this moment.

Maybe not known, but were the batteries installed with correct polarity?

He was playing with the light, and it was working fine. Don’t think batteries were installed incorrectly.

Hahaha, oh yes !

Not even if freezing?? (improvised heater could turn into a bomb though!)

I had been following the post in Shoudian forum. According to Sunwayman’s offifcial, the reason of the shorting seems to be the black isolator around the head’s positive contact came loose. and they checked their inventory and couldn’t find a second unit to have the same problem. The post had been deleted which I assumed was requested by Sunwayman’s official. So I have no way to know what is the outcome. But Sunwayman do respond in time and admitted that they will look into the design to avoid anything like that ever happen again. Kudus to Sunwayman!

I ordered my D40A from FT on June 10 before the price went up. Still hadn’t shipped as of Sunday night so I sent a email to FT. Got a reply this morning saying it is out of stock and will be back in stock in two days at which time they will ship it to me.
Sounds to me like Sunwayman may have put pressure on FT to sell the light at the higher price found at other sites. Nice to know I will be getting my light for $52 that I ordered it at.
I love my EA4 XM-L2 and if this light is an improvement on the Nitecore, I will be a very happy camper.

So we can’t control the price any longer. No way?

runtime? and are those batteries in 2 parrellel or 4? or in series?

I have not measured run time, and the cells are four in series.

I don't like the new price.

I decided to try this link:
https://support.fasttech.com/general/VOLM/1374600
The bulk price turned out to be much lower. In my case, the quote was for a bulk quantity that can be described by this mathematical expression: sin(π/6)*[√4] + (3!)^2 - (46656)^(1/3)

I sent in a request for the large quantity of (1)….we’ll see what they come back with!

(I have no idea about what your equation means, but hope it = (1))

Thanks for the review.

But guys, please don't blurt out the price per piece of you bulk orders

No problem.

+1

So nice. Exterior fit and finish is awesome. No rattle.

One problem. I can’t seem to activate the strobe reliably. The instructions say a double-click will do it. I have tried every speed of double click. No go. However, it will go into strobe sometimes instead of the police strobe, with a press and hold. The press and hold will also sometimes yield mode shifts THML.

I am not particularly irritated at this point, because all the other functions operate as described. Also, I don’t have much need for the basic strobe.

That’s odd, mine works exactly as described and expected. Maybe you have a finnicky mode button? If you single press it does it change modes every time? Just checking to see if it is intermittent or something.

It cycles the modes properly, but I have to give it a second after each mode change. If I immediately try for a subsequent mode change, I don’t get it.

Edit: After playing with the light a bit, I have found this procedure gives me a reliable strobe (for now anyway):

  1. Turn light off.
  2. Turn light on, and immediately give a double-click on the mode button. If I wait a bit, it’s less reliable, but can be had.
  3. The switch seems to be sensitive to the speed and pressure of the double-click. I think I’ll be OK once I’m familiar.
