The BLF DIY Forum First Annual Scratch made light contest - CONTEST IS DONE - WINNERS are Announced! in the OP

Why are you guys helping relic38. What hope have l got if he finishes his light or for that matter unfinished light? I’m sorry to tell you Mr relic but they are out off stock on that lens or any size close to it. I have one here I will post you that I personally guarantee you wont see until after the closing date of the comp. I should also add that I may have to pull out off this comp as I am a DNF. No don’t jump to conclusions, I’m not scared of any opposition. Well not much. OK you win, no sour grapes from me buddy.

Relic38, as you well know, some people have been known to skimp on breakfast. I think Mr Moose has Fruit Loops regularly. That, or some bizarre berry found only in rare secret places of the outback so I guess he’s getting his dietary hallucinogens.

Hehe, I think I’ll need all the help I can get
Fortunately for me, I am in the handmade category and do not have to directly compete with your turning skills. I’ve got bullets, guns and lights made from batteries that use batteries (circular reference? ) to contend with… and those are just the ones that are already done!

Dale, that’s great, I think it will work for this light. There’s a UCLp option at 54.85mm that might work too.
Edit: Ordered one of each, hoping the UCLp fits, but the Hardcoat is a backup.

My sincere apologies Mr relic38. I honestly thought you were competing against me. I rescind all negative comments made and my vote will go towards your light and not another certain other member who has accused me of being on some sort off berries. My pain killers are 100% made in a factory. Cheers all.

I have a 60mm. Probably too big but if not, it's all yours.

Said factory in a secret location… in the outback.

I finally got in all my parts in… only took three weeks for the Parcel Smashers to get a padded envelope from Oregon to Texas. Fedex lost a package for over two weeks (delivery time was quoted as two days).

Hint, my reflector weighs over 3 pounds… 1500 grams for you Eurotypes.

I’m thinking”Star Trek, The Planet Killer”. Can’t wait. Woohoo!

Pheeew. I thought I had competition again. I panicked when I read the above. I went and checked, your in the hand built category. Lucky me unlucky other guys in hand built.

Rufus, you would be amazed what grows in the outback. Red dust and salt bush. I havent tried that combination. I’ll send a batch over and let you report back. Cheers guys.

I guess that if the light has to be pulled along by pack-horses it’s still classed as portable??? lol

Thanks Foy for the offer  , but I ordered the FLL lenses which should work well enough.

O-L should have added a rule; no DIY lighthouses

TP has BIG Hands.Wink And I can’t DQ him, he’s within driving distance…Surprised

Just posted an update to my build. I finally got around to working on it. Enjoy!

The time frame for the contest is less than generous, but the notice especially seems short, if it was initially announced on 5/29 and to begin on 6/8. If its an annual contest, the time frame need not be arbitrarily short, but I digress. The links to the participants threads would be easier to follow if they were attributed to each contestants name as they appear in the “list of contestants” post rather than being scattered in a following post. I do like the concept of BLF build contests and will be sure to give it a go for the next one!

Well, it looks like the parts I ordered aren’t going to be arriving until after I leave for vacation, so I won’t even be able to start working on it until after the deadline. Hopefully I’ll be able to participate in next year’s build. Good luck to everyone!

With consideration to this being the 1st Annual Scratch Build Contest. Just like building a light, you give birth to the Idea first, then improve on it after finding it’s limitations. Next year will be a doozie!

I agree that the links beside the members names, acting as an extension, would indeed make it easier to follow. Some pretty dang cool builds going on here, interesting to me is the actual usefulness once completed.

Sorry to hear that Lunaras, maybe you’ll be able to build it anyway and of course get in a trial run with a build thread?

I was thinking we should have a scratch built driver contest. I know there will be less contestants. We could have a small group decide what the driver format should be. have a few set rules of what the driver sshould include, such as 17mm, 3 modes, no pwm. Though if this actually happens, we should be more creative than that

If that contest would be happening now, texaspyro would win because of his programmable morse mode

Links have been changed.

First time I ever did one of these things, but I probably would have still put a time limit on it. If/when there is a next year's annual contest, I imagine it will be quite different and hopefully, someone else will host and run it. I hope that our Admin will now think about having a contest like this each year. If I had to do it over, I would not have done it at this time of year. Maybe in late April or early May and I would possibly have posted a month ahead of time. I would probably also include a category for best modified factory light.
