Energizer LED Folding 360 Area Lantern with Light Fusion Technology

Very cool new lanterns from energizer that seemed to work remarkably well . I just saw them at meijers the other day and people have seen them at target as well.

They are very nice on the eyes and don't have a whole lot of the annoying glare that comes with most lanterns . the one above runs on either 4AA's or 8 AA's and has a really cool dimming feature .

Listed as 300 lumens but people are saying it looks more like a couple hundred ....100 hours runtime on lowest setting

Not terribly cheap at 30$ ...but have you checked out the crazy prices on coleman camp fuel ? (10$ a gal.)

There are also three other lights sold by energizer using this same new fusion technology .. The two flashlights also have the ramping capabilities and have a cool diffued panel on the side so they can be table standed or hung and used as a lantern too.

Sadly these lights actually make some of the "budget lights we but look somewhat stupid . they have small flaws but overall are a great option for AA users who are looking for a lantern option as well .

After just giving these a quick once over I was very impressed .

These lights will make a noob look smart when he shows up at the campground with one .

Add eneloops and a charger with a 12 option and it's a nifty general preparedness option.

* for in strore demonstration the lights are in a "try me mode " which means the light will dim to a setting and then after just a few seconds shut off .The light needs the batteries pulled out for 10 seconds to let the light re-set and go into normal use mode .teh instructions on this isn't very clear and I assume there will be some deals on these lights as many will be returned as a defective lantern.

Cool light !

They look like very decent lights.

I have been eyeing them up at my local Target, hopefully waiting for an even lower clearance price.

I like the ability to hold the button to ramp the light up, or down to a lower brightness. Longer run times.

As Boaz mentioned, the annoying glare seems to be very low with this lantern.

Looks interesting! It has a very unique design. Wonder how useful this would be for larger rooms though, since it’s only 300 lumens and it has no directional beam whatsoever.

Well I hate to suggest it but since these big box stores have such liberal return policies It may not be the dumbest thing to just try one and see if you like it ..it seems like the reports from a few fairly well known members on cpf are pretty favorable.

Emitters are Nichia ..not the high cri ones or I would have bought it :)

Revival;

I just got one from Amazon, supposedly new. Not packed in factory packaging, just a plastic sealed wrapping bag, and no longer in demo mode on arrival but no visible scratches either so it looks new. NO DOCUMENTATION and I could not find a PDF for it on the Energizer web site. Annoying!

Per Disclaimers on the Amazon web site it is my understanding that the 300 Lumens listed is an LEDs output figure, definitely NOT an out the diffuser figure so the mentioned 200 Lumens or a bit less is probably close for an effective useful light output figure. Cannot say an OTF figure for a lantern as most are non directional, so no front! The Energizer output statement from the Amazon web site states the following: “Light output measured from the LED at 150 mA rms drive current. Value is only applicable to the LED. Actual device light output may vary.” That is a cut and paste of the original statement. A second disclaimer from the same source is the following: “Maximum continuous runtime on lowest lumen setting. Endpoint determined at 1% of initial value on low mode.” This means that the run time is NOT per ANSI standards but is greatly exaggerated. The two Energizer combined flash lights and area lights covered by the same notes list both Energizer and ANSI standards info. Energizer run time is 10X the ANSI figure.

The folding feature makes for a compact package when folded for transport but the virtually all plastic construction does make me wonder about the ruggedness of the design if it takes a fall or is mishandled. IMO not a lantern for kids to play with. If you want a more directional output then I wondered about placing a reflective Mylar cover on one side of the light panel. Something to try. When closed the battery compartment cover, highly reflective white, reflects the output from the one side of the diffuser causing it all to come out the open side. This makes the lantern 180 degree directional, a hemispheric output.

BTW the two fasteners on the access plate for the battery compartment. 90 degrees clockwise to loosen and 90 degrees CCW (Counter Clockwise NOT Concealed Carry Weapon  ) to tighten. Seemed backwards to me, like a left hand thread. There are markings but low contrast. I used a dime for a tool.

Definitely a low glare design and the adjustable light panel makes me believe that it would be a good light for reading or similar activities. A very different design lantern.

Amazon UK has the panel lantern for £37 + del i’ll pass
