The King is dead? Long live the Warrior!!

It’s funny you posted this Johnny. I just ordered one earlier, and I haven’t ordered anything but hosts in a while. The price helps too.

Yeah, I just couldn’t pass it up. I’m thinking it will be way more floody than that SRK though. Originally I figured they were ab out the same size (and they may be) but after ordering I remembered the SRK uses 4 and this only 3 so the body will be thinner than the SRK (not a bad thing at all) but the head might be smaller as well. Now I need to check the dimensions of the SRK and compare against those posted about this one. BRB

Okay...the SRK head is 59mm and the YL-U2 is 57mm. Doesn't mean they don't have the same reflector inside but even if they did, 2mm isn't that huge a difference and the individual reflectors could still be the same size as in the SRK. For $35 I can't see going wrong with this light especially if output can be bumped up even more.

Oh god, I did not need to see this today. Considering I don't actually have a King currently I may have to get this, anxiously awaiting your review JM!

Damn you JM!

I have one already coming from FF - with XM-L2 emitters (and significantly higher price, of course..)

Well.. At least we can compare them. :) [At least in case of SRK, Fandyfire is identical to real King..]

I'll pass this one. Have a Nitecore TM11 coming. :hat:

Can’t wait for the review! FT might have another purchase coming soon.

Nice find JM. This is so interesting, if not for the UI (quote from FT):

How to use:
Press the larger button for 3 seconds to turn on/off the flashlight
Click the larger button to switch brightness in Hi > Mid > Strobe
Keep pressing the small button for infinitely dimming the brightness
Double click the small button to access SOS mode

It's extremely frustrating - the UI implements strobe in MAIN cycle! Why not hide it just like SOS - e.g double click small button to activate and cycle SOS/strobe? I would have jumped on this but having to cycle through strobe breaks the deal.

I'll put this on waiting list pending JM's approval :)

IMO main button cycle should be H-M-L (or add additional moonlight for extra long run) and hidden strobe/SOS through double clicking small button. And on/off shouldn't take 3seconds, too long - you might need light faster than that.

Now this looks interesting. Hope they didn’t do something stupid to it.
UI is already pushing it.

Here is the UI breakdown for the larger L3 on which this is based. Now remember that the L3 doesn’t have a medium mode, just high, ramping, strobe & SOS. According to the review I got it from it only takes 1 second to turn on or off, not 3. I hope the 3 sec is wrong.

Two E-Switch
Power switch / Mode switch = Big one = B
Ramping switch = Small one = S
.
.
Turn on/off = press and hold switch B for 1 second
When you Turn on = always start with your ramping preset mode
.
.
Flashlight Turn On
Press switch B = Ramping preset mode > Hi mode > SOS mode
Ramping preset = Press and hold switch S
Strobe = double press switch S
.
.
Flashlight Turn Off
Hi mode momentary on = Press or press and hold switch S
Strobe = double press switch S
.
.
Strobe mode about 4-5 Hz

Nice Find! Very tempting as I like the 3x18650 slimmer body over 4x18650 SRK.

The only reason to pick on it is to protect paypal, nothing personal. The switch plate now looks too big for the smaller light, where it looked more natural on the original 7 xml/6x18650 version.

I'll wait till Johnny's review before I pull the trigger. The only thing I don't like appearance wise, are the tacky blue buttons. Anyone else?

I like the tacky blue buttons. Half of my lights have been swapped to blue boots

They could have made them less protruding though

I'm liking this, but I'm confused about the power though - 3A tailcap, but 2.5A output current, 3 parallel cells, 3 LED's. So, a 3A tailcap is 1A per LED? Or is the 2.5A # real, and each LED gets 2.5A?

I see your point. They do stick out a bit too much. I still would have preferred black..

That’s why I’d wait until I can put in the ol’ IS to see what the OTF is from it. Once I publish it’s true real world output you can decide to pull the trigger or not.

must…….not…….pull………trigger. …….

I’m liking it, but its definitely going to be down on the lumen grenade, I’d be better splashing the cash at cutter for a 3up xm-l2 board.

Cant wait for the review though, hurry the f* up postal service.

The thing about th blue buttons I definitely understand.

They feel very spongy. if it were a different style switch I would be all over it it.

Sstill interested though, I still want a shorty, after selling my SRK.

I miss him, except for the beam profile.

aaww man when i promise myself to not buy any 3x emitter light and this light appear?

yeah. Current draw is not impressive given the parallel cells. If the heatsinking is good though, it’ll make a sweet host!!

thats exactly what i was thinking!
lets hope it does not get hot like the rest of the multi emitter coke can style lights.

they need to make a clone of the shadow sl3 though!!
