C8 addicts thread

I ordered some AR lenses from FAST TECH we will see what I get! It seems like there are 1.5mm and 2mm lenses out there we will see what shows up.

Did the Xin TD V3 come with an AR lens?? I cannot seem to tell on mine . I am pretty sure that my Convoy C8 did not.

I think the V3 was shipping with an AR, but I had an earlier version. Convoy C8 definitely not - I found the FT AR's totally useless - no difference. Also the cheaper KD ones - same thing. IOS and UCL I trust and appear to be the real thing (UCL definite). Best bet now is maybe wait for OL to get up with his AR lens making hobby/biz - pretty much guaranteed you are getting the real thing.

Love my (stock) XinTD V3 C8 with XM-L T6 3C and Lightmalls C12 with XM-L2 U2. C8s (and C12s) are great. Sounds like I need a 3.85A one.

Has everyone here seen the test of a new XinTD C8 SC-82/V4 here Review: XinTD C8 SC-82/V4 (3C neutral white) ?
Do you agree with his opinion of it?

I certainly like mine. I have several C8’s and this is my favorite stock C8. The regulation is incredible. On the light box it only dropped 20 lumens in 30 seconds. The modes are really nice too. I refused to buy a Xin TD for over a year because it was double the price of my other c8’s. Now that I have bought one I just ask myself why I waited so long.

yes I agree with and value foys opinion, I would have ordered one but ordered an x3 instead, maybe an xintd c8 next time

Don’t have a V4 - yet. My V3 is great. My LM C12 is brighter, but the XinTD gets used more because of better modes (no strobe), and better tint (3c). And it just feels nicer in hand. Yes, it cost more, but still seems worth it, IMO. The new 5B tint option sounds fantastic to me.

wanted to asked if there is a copper pill that fits Convoy C8? …saw in a thread that it’s not the regular size…

Hi Jacob, and welcome!! The Convoy C8 pill is a one of a kind - not standard C8 pill size threads, and it's designed for 16mm stars, not 20mm. The body is a quality C8, but the non-standard pill is my pet peeve with it. I bought it as a host and built a de-domed XP-G2 out of it.

Jacob: Aluminium is a BETTER thermal conductor than brass. Brass is generally what the ‘chinese’ call copper. REAL Copper is a better thermal conductor than aluminium so if you find a pure copper pill then, you’re in a happy place :smiley:

Can you tell me how heavy is the C12 compared to ordinary C8?

jacob, fasttech has an ultrafire c8……I’ve dropped one in my cart because it MIGHT take the c8 pills they have, its very cheap for an xm-l c8 and I only plan on using it as a host, I’ll report back

I see 1807 from the lux meter, please advise how you got 115,260 Lux.
Also on your first post, you have 68,200 Lux at 8M, is it 68,200 data from the Lux meter at 8 meters?

As discussed on A Little More Machining Video, pure Al and Cu are too plastic for practical machining, and casting is not a practical alternative for a budget light. It might be possible to forge a soft metal pill, but not without a lot of development. So we are talking about relatively pure alloys that are machinable but still good conductors versus alloys like aircraft aluminum and brass that are optimized for machinability and strength.

Don’t have a scale to weigh them, but the C12 doesn’t feel much heavier in hand.

The Wikipedia article on 6061 aluminium alloy says “The typical value for thermal conductivity for 6061-T6 at 80°C is around 152 W/m K.”, whatever those units are. For pure Al, it lists numbers around 220 in what appear to be the same units, in the article List of thermal conductivities. Pure copper is around 390 and brass 120 in the same table.
So brass is nearly as conductive as hard Al alloy and suitable for pills when it is easier to fabricate, while alloys with higher Cu content have superior heat conductivity.
Heat conductivity of metals is loosely related to electrical conductivity, so alloys used for ground busses and such in electrical devices are good.

If I manage to find C12 somewhere with nice discount I’ll get one for experimenting :- ) It just looks like it has a better heat management than C8

I would have to say your being pretty dammed anal to worry about the thermal conductivity of a brass pill over alu alloy tbh.

I have two similar sized, similar mass lights driven roughly the same, one, the emitter is screwed to the head - direct bonding, one has a brass pill, I defy you to feel a difference in how they heat up.

I certainly am not convinced you could measure a difference between a brass pilled c8 and an alu alloy pilled c8, interesting experiment though it would be.

I even got a true copper pill (from VOB) in a LightMalls UF C8 and really can't tell the difference in heat and output between this light and others I have with brass and aluminum pills. Originally it had aluminum w/copper discs, upgraded to brass w/copper discs, and now just the copper pill - can't tell a difference.

The stock light would drop output as it warmed up like crazy - direct drive gone a-muck.

The difference would be seen in how fast the outside of the light heats up. It may not affect the overall ‘hotness’ of the light since that is determined by the external features of the light and ambient temperature and not the pill. Honestly, I don’t know how much of a difference there is but personally, I prefer an Aluminium pill vs Brass.
