Outdoor Beamshot!!! Relic's DIY Build 2013: Copper Triple-Triple (July 15 Update)

Very creative ways to solve design problems. When it's done I would love to know/see what tools were necessary to accomplish all of this. For example, what did you use to cut the half inch copper pipe lengthwise?

Dremel with a cutoff wheel, actually many cutoff wheels

So yesterday I got the emitters mounted in the head. Today I quickly wired them. I just had to see how the beam was going to look with three of the warmer tint T5 5C1 emitters. It’s a beauty. With no lens or bezel I get about 1800 steady lumens at 6A (2A/emitter). I will settle on 2.8A/emitter once the driver is build. I hope to get 1800-1900 lumens OTF once the bezel and lens are in place. My XM-L2 U2 1C SRK is going to be taking a back seat once this thing is built. Tint wins over lumens.

Did you do it freehand or did you have/make some kind of jig or guide to provide for a nice straight cut?

I did it freehand. I scribed a straight line on opposite sides as best I could first, then cut along it. I ground the edges down flat when I wasn’t exactly straight. Amazingly, I didn’t have any mis-cuts to toss either. The first three pieces and the fourth extra were all useable.

Very nice. It's amazing what you're doing with a minimum of tools.

So when is TexasPyro going to ship you the driver for this baby so you can finish up and polish it?

JM, I thought of asking pyro, and I could make it fit with some grinding. I decided I’ll make my own for now, and when he starts selling them I might get one to squeeze in there.

That’s cool. What kind do you plan to put together for it?

I’m planning to do a 3x8x7135 with a Qlite as the master. I also might go with a custom master, if I can get it ready in time.

That is going to look absolutely fantastic once its completed and polished. I cant wait for the money shots!

Can you please take a few detailed pics of your slave/master wiring before you toss it in the light and wire it to the emitters? I always enjoy looking at others builds and wiring solutions.

That looks very nice! I whish I could cut only half as precise freehand!
I am excited to see it in action!

First post updated, pics to come later, including beamshots!

Wow relic, that is sooo much awesomeness, you could probably spare some awesomeness and still be sitting pretty.

It must feel very satisfying having it work/finished.

Sooo much awesomeness! Beamshots are a must…like asap!

Awesome, Relic!! I can't wait to see the pics of the completed light. Are you going to leave it looking antique or are you going to polish this to a gleaming shine for the contest? I'm hoping for gleaming shine. :)

looking forward to seeing this when its completed !

2530 lumens after 30 seconds… and with 5C tint. NICE!

All polished and done.

First post updated. Lots of pics of the light and some white wall beamshots. I have more to add over the next day or so.
Thanks to Justin, all participants, our spectators, and our sponsors!

Words fail me.Simply unbelievable. Well done.

Dayum…. looks like a production sample!!

:open_mouth:

Far out Relic! I love it.
Any chance of pix of your wiring sequence. I’m still trying to get my head around series vs parallel.
