Solarforce S1100 XML vs. S1100 MTG2 beamshots

I have, and like the 5000k versions. Two from Cutter, four from I-O.
AFAIK, they are identical emitters.

Shotgun vs Rifle.

I guess what you need depends on what you’re hunting!

i really like your shots comfy. very nice esp. for your first time. id like to see your custom 5xml king up in the mix.
i think i need to find me a light with a mtg2.

Yep that does make sense, still I wonder since it's a multi die if it will be possible to make such a perfect donut hole like the XM-L.

Let's hope the MT-G3 will be a monolithic die instead of an array... that weird hexagon shape is the most compact way to arrange the array, but as a rough guess I'd say the total die area without the spaces in between is only around double or maybe a little less than that of the XML2. About the same amount of difference as between XML2 & XPG2.

Cree datasheets give the MTG2 die area but don't specify if that's the area of the entire array's footprint, or if it only counts the emitting surfaces of the individual dies that make up the array.

Maybe one day silicon manufacturing will make it economically viable to use round dies instead of square (round wastes a huge amount of silicon). I still don't understand how you can put a square die in a round reflector and get something out the end that doesn't look all screwed up. :)

LIGHTS:

Convoy S4, de-domed XPG2 R5 '2B' tint, 105C w/Nlite FW, 2.65A tailcap current

501b P60 smooth XML reflector, XML2 U2 '1C' tint, 105C w/Nlite FW, 2.81A tailcap current

UltraFire C8 smooth XRE refelctor, de-domed XML2 U2 '1C' tint, 105C w/Nlite FW, 3.22A tailcap current

SkyRay King, 5x XML (unknown bin & tint, leftovers), driver details & currents in the build thread here

(LEDs have domes intact unless specified as 'de-domed')

Control shot, needed in this batch due to the 5AM glow:

The way this works is, each pic's mouseover shows the next light in the list. At the last one it starts over again showing the SRK vs. Convoy S4.

lol :D

Maybe this will make clear why I love my little S4 so much... and why the only thing the 5x SRK does well is being a party trick.

Just for fun...

thrower vs. thrower:

and flooder vs. flooder:

Still think it's valid to call the S1100/MTG2 a 'flooder'?

holy moly - that c8 xml2 dedome is $

i need one.

Yes, she's haulin' the mail eh? That 3.2A tailcap is with the plain Panasonic cell, with a Samsung INR it runs about 3.95A...

Very nice beamshots.
Its impressive to see the MT-G2 vs XM-L S1100. For most type of use, I would say its a no brainier picking the MT-G2…

They seem to portray quite good why I mostly avoid CW… The less cool white lights are just so much more pleasing to look at… (despite the low CRI on most of those lights)

Just curious, what focal length and white balance were used on those shots?

any idea how many lux?

looks like getting it to focus was a pain

Great beamshots comfychair!I am still getting the run-around from SF on my s2200.It’s a great light but I think I am done w/SF and most overseas sellers at this point.Sorry to crap on your thread…just venting.-Rick

edit: white balance setting is 'fluorescent', didn't realize it wasn't listed in the long form EXIF.

Cool, I used to own a similar Sony camera “back in the day”. I remember one of the reasons for buying it was that it had a few manual settings.
Thanks for the exif.
Focal length is 7,9, which is the equivalent to 38mm on full fram camera.
Or about 25mm on a typical DSLR.

No idea, don't have a meter. It started as a $6 light with a ringy green-tinted white XRE and a next mode driver. It's still using the wide-base XRE reflector, the original cheap aluminum pill that only fits 16mm stars (though with a JBWelded Sinkpad), and a handmade super thick centering ring (around .065" thick).

I know jack-all about camera settings, but in the controls the focus is set to infinity. No settings changed from the S1100 pics but there was some light fog/mist in the air during the second batch of pics.

wow. excellent beamshots… MTG2 rocks…

OMG comfychair, where did you buy your 5 x XM-L SRK? It looks very powerful. I only have heard of 4 x XM-L SRK so far.

Holy!

Are there any sexy p60-sized MTG-lights?

Not quite p60 sized, but smallest production mtg2 light so far: http://www.eagletac.com/html/sx25l3/specs.html
