Outdoor Beamshot!!! Relic's DIY Build 2013: Copper Triple-Triple (July 15 Update)

Looks fantastic! Those wall shots certainly "buttery smooth" like you said!

-Garry

I did the wire wheel first on the body, and liked it, but for the glamour shots I decided to go polished. It gets nice and brassy coloured in about a week.
Edit: silly phone keyboard.

It gets mice brassy colored in only a week! :stuck_out_tongue:

+1 looks amazing!!!

To me, this is so far one of the most desirable builds. Maybe the most desirable build.
Some really great work Relic38!
I applaud you!

btw…mice brassy… :stuck_out_tongue:

We have 2 of those exact same mice! They live on top of the Grandfather/Grandmother clocks my Uncle made years ago.

…hickory dickory dock.

relic38, awesome build!!

Pure copper goodness . . . if you get a chance, it would be great if you could put together a spec list with dimensions and stuff like a mfgr would do.

Lots of great projects and every one so unique. But for having done very little with metal previous (I’ve never done anything but cut, drill and grind on a couple simple things), this is a great achievement.

That sure came our nice Relic. Whens the group buy?

 I’ll send you the parts list so you can get started on production

Count me in, thanks!

Well, if I was stranded and needed something made, I'd hope you were close by! That is nice work and danged sure creative. Love the way you made the batteries stay put!!! A BIG thumbs up on that one!!! Danged nice light and I like the beamers as well!!

Super creative work!!! Thanks for sharing. Dan.

Looks so steampunkish!

I’ve added some more updates to the first post. Driver details added, and the Measurements section is now updated. That’s probably going to do it for updates before the deadline.
Good luck to all contestants! There are some really great builds going on!

Super clean build relic, I like it a lot. What a powerhouse. You will wake up the night like a good strong cup of coffee! The specifications give an insight into what is possible given some hand tools, and an innovative mind.

That is one nice looking build!

That’s a really nice looking light. I wonder, it being copper and 3 LEDs with less mass than a SRK, how fast does the “human cooling unit” start to fail?

*Edit: I’m just curious, I’d still one one, its a beautiful light.

Less mass than the SRK? I don’t think so. SRK weighs 308g, less than half of the Copper Triple-Triple.

Both have thermal issues due to low surface area, and the CTT has lower emissivity due to the shiny finish. The SRK heats up quicker since it has less mass, but eventually both will overheat without airflow.
Better have gloves on if you want to hold the CTT for very long. The copper feels uncomfortably hot even at 45-50C.

Really nice job. I always hate the wiring part and you did a tidy job getting it all in there. Mtb tire inner tube makes for a good grip. Some double stick tape and thinner to make it slide on works well. I almost went that route on mine but had that spare wallet lying around(since I was already over the top there was no going back).
