Tear Down of the 2AA Defiant light - Question about driver

Might Check Your HD Store, Mine had these for 7.76

Yes there is an amazingly simple way to tell if a light has PWM and it doesn’t involve wavig screw drivers or anything “dangerous” like that. Just uses your camera phone.

Hold the lens of the flashlight up to the lens of the camera phone and turn the light on, if you see lines across the screen like window blinds its PWM, no lines = no PWM. The reason for this is the frequency of the PWM conflicts with the cameras refresh rate (shutter speed). A cheap/old digital camera and/or a CCTV security camera should do it too. (Even works with iphone 4 & 5)

How about shining it at a computer’s fan?

That will work too. And I believe the slower the fan appears to spin, the lower the PWM.

I’m sorry, but that is just ignorant and uncalled for! There are only 36 possible outcomes of a pair of dice!

You just made me blow snot all over my leg!

That really is amazing!

Now try it with the disco strobe! Your next UFO flap in the making!

SOS gives the Auto-Exposure subroutine a full-lock workout!!

Hello all, don’t think I’ve posted anything yet, just been reading and learning since my new obsession has begun.
Anyway, just wanted to share that these are down to 5.50 for a pack from 7.98 at my central Arkansas HD…

Edited to add pic:

Welcome to the forum g22dru and thanks for the update. Man, that is a total steal.

Aftrburnr, course I had to try this as soon as I got back to the truck and got NO light at all, no poof, no bright flash before death. Just nothing. Put the primaries back in and all was back to normal…(whew, didn’t kill this one!) Although, for 5.50 a pair (oh yeah), I thought Id take the chance…

Thanks ImA4Wheelr! Good to be here, great place!
Yeah, there were quite a few, thinking I should go back and get more…thought I’d check all the threads here first…take care

Here I fixed the pic for you

Oh WOW! now only $5.50! How did I miss that

I want to point out here that the sign says “was $7.98, now $5.50”
When you see a sign like this, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the higher was the original “list” price. In this case it was 7.98, but before that it was 11.98 and before that it was, I believe $14.00. Sometimes one has to know the value of something to appreciate how good of a deal a new, lower price really is. In this case it is a dchomak kind of price. If I were you, I would buy all they have.

BTW, welcome to the forum. We need more members like you!

Thanks for the picture fix, not sure why it did that…looked right before the upload. I’m on my phone to, so maybe that had something to do with it…Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome! I’m actually back at the store now for more! (Yes,I have a problem!-dont we all!)

Just wondering if even worth it, but I have lots of extra parts lying around…

Thanks for trying that but flat top cells won’t work unless you use a magnet. I may take my receipts to HD and have them price match themselves :money_mouth_face: If you have some button top 14500, try those.

Those were button tops, that’s all I have in 14500’s…good luck on the price match, I had to pick up a couple more at that price myself!

Was surprised I didn’t blow it like I did one of those energizer tacticals recently! Oops

I gotta figure out a better way to check, but I can’t help myself…what is the best way to verify being able to use 14500’s instead of AA’s? (When you don’t have the specs)

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I thought id share what i found out.
I have these 2 defiant lights sitting in a drawer and collecting dust So i decided to open them up. I took out the pill and it dropped in just perfect into an ultrafire wf 602c host I have. With a 3.0v cr123 battery it seems brighter than the defiant with 2aa. Only problem is it gets pretty hot after a few minutes. Im happy with it now actually. I hope this helps someone resurrect an old light.

The original emitter is an XBD. I just recently upgraded one of these to an XP-G2 on Noctigon. I have always liked this light, but now with the upgrade it is even brighter and it also has a better tint. All I did was swap out the emitter and star

Actually after using it for several small uses, im hearing a high pitched sizzling noise as the light heats up. Seems to intensify when I shake it. I will discontinue use until I can open it up. Which bin did you use?
