If I had to guess I would assume they used alkies purely because they are far more common. It seems like D capability is more of an added perk for emergencies with this light, rather than a main power source.
Think it will run good with NiMh too. I don’t have any NiMh D cells, but plan to run eneloops when not running li-ions. It’s always nice to have options… the more the better!
What is the average capacity of good name brand alkaline D cells? I know you can order good LSD D cell NiMH’s with ~10,000mAh but off the shelf your lucky to find energizer 5000’s.
Because of the pretty simple UI and different cell capability I’m thinking this will be a great light to recommend to non-flashlight people so I figure they’re not gonna put much research into battery choice, what would they be better off with, ~5000mAh (rated so most likely less actual) NiMH’s or name brand alkaline’s? [forget about the one-time use vs. rechargeable aspect, what ones will be longest running?]
i had two ea4s but sold both… its about the same size - similar output to the eye as well… beam is a little less smooth looking but build quality is top notch… (aside from flimsy battery carrier)
