BTU Shocker - $99 Free Ship at FF

I literally missed the boat last night, friends and my son went to Greenport for dinner and fun…from the CT River. I got stuck on I-95 and they left w/o me! Well I missed a great dinner and a lovely breeze, but I didn’t miss a choppy ride both ways in an open 30’ RIB. Dinner might have repeated…

Light has an odd way of disappearing/absorbing in certain conditions over water…gotta look into that. A borrowed SST-90 looked pretty mediocre shined over our mooring area while I was waiting for their return.

Congrats on the wins, those beers must have tasted just right!

That's interesting bout the water effect, I'll ask around. I used to do a lotta fish'n out there out of Greenport off of Orient - Plum Gut, the Race, Pigeon Rip, all around Plum Island basically. We really like the North Fork - it's been up-scaled from all the winery biz goin on. I remember when it was all farm land, hardly anything out there.

Ooops, see this listing: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1881. It's called a SinkPAD here but is not a real SinkPAD? This copper star, though better than typical aluminum ones, is usually not a direct thermal path - it typically has a dielectric layer like the ones FastTech and DX sell.

Oh boy, for me this is totally different... Also this listing, though it says U2 1B, includes a photo of the CREE package which is actually a T6 ??

The plot thickens…

So is this what he is using on the new Shockers? Sounds likely and that’s a shame, if so it’s not a real big improvement over the XML-U2 might not be an improvement at all. I think I’ll pass on this one again. I had one already and it was cool but I want something easier to mod. Have you ever modded one of these? Lustfire for $69

How far will the Lustrafire throw?

Not familiar with the LusteFire - looks like a shocker at the head. Of course there's no listed dimensions...

I don’t know but I’ll bet that for another $20 I can get it to beat the stock BTU. 3 de-domed XM-L2 U2’s on octogons, dry driver and some copper braid is all it would take. I already have one of these on the way though.

It’s a little smaller but not a ton.

You know, I really Don't Care what this light has stock!! Just tested my 2nd Shocker mod with all the super mods. This one still has no AR lens (older model -- can't believe someone sold theirs -- several are around 2nd hand). Measured this beast and got 219 kcd and 4,400 lumens, reading 4.95A on 3 Pana PD's. I'm too scared to try it on Sam 20R's because I know it will do 5.2A or more. This is about 60 watts of sheer, bright, awesome power! Nice dark night and wow, it lights up everything on the block no matter how far the trees and houses are away. Technically it's the 3rd super mod I did, but I just didn't test the 1st one out as much, maybe missed a couple of tweaks also...

Tom E “Shocker”

I like the sound of that.

Killer. Who has them used, CPF?

No - just in general, some guys have been selling their's in like new condition, which is fine. I'm just too excited right now to see this thing perform the way it always should have - I know these things weigh a ton - not the easiest thing to lug around. Actually this mod'ed one I tested this evening was yours... Ooops!! Sorry...

That’s cool I’m glad to hear it’s performing like that. I used the cash to buy a rifle that I just finished fixing up and I sold it for three times what I paid for it so we both made out good. I have been planning on buying another one but I just don’t seem to be able to pull the trigger. I paid a hundred bucks for mine and got him to toss in a free driver so when I sold it even with shipping I was very close to breaking even. Ric was supposed to send me the lens for that light twice now. I have some drivers and stuff on the way so it might be in with that package.

I might buy one again someday now that I know how far it can be pushed.

Ok, glad it worked out. Yes, RIC's been a little disappointing - was supposed to send me a DRY driver for repair, never got it. Finally just ordered one and got that one. No big deal really for $5 though -- been happy otherwise with RIC, though I wish he could be clearer about the product listings, little more like Hank. The Shocker for example.. but it's gone through a lot when you think back about it's initial announcement and first few pieces received by guys -- lots of heavy debates, lots of criticisms, some deserved.

He does alright bigger into sales than after sales I notice. I don’t mind because he has some good stuff. I love the DRY driver and for $5 how can you beat it. Three of the drivers I have on the way are more DRY’s.

As for the Shocker it’s really a heck of a deal and even when he had it for what $180?. It really wasn’t out of line considering what people paid for the TK70. $99 is a steal.

Have you ever asked him what he would sell it for as a host?

Of course! No Go - but I did get a nice deal on qty 3... I got a pile of XML U2's on 16mm alum now, literally...

I see on his ali-express site that he sells them at a reduced price for 5 of them. I should ask him if he would do a group sales thing.

Wow is all I can say, all this talk has got me salivating! S) I’m truly excited for camping in September as we finally have some (suckers) friends coming with us this time and they don’t have a clue what sort of torches I own and will own by then. I love this forum and the amazing people on here!

Camping, dark Northwoods, hi-end flashlights…what a combination!
