Decided To Send My L3 Illumination K40 To Vinhnguyen54

Beamshots are in here of both.

This TN31 that Vinh did for me makes the BTU Shocker seem like a toy.

I’m telling you it’s very close on a wall to my POB 35watt HID that saablaster said his POB did like 540K. Now I know this TN31 won’t out throw the POB due to the like almost 6” reflector diameter. But it’s the most throw power I have ever seen in a flashlight this size.

Here’s a shot from the BTU Shocker. Compare that to the TN31 that Vinh modded. It’s like comparing night to day.

Fortunately the Shocker is not a designed for throw light, like the TN31 - really no comparison. Nothing beats a fully mod'ed Shocker in output and throw in this general size. I'm measuring 4,500 lumens, 220 kcd. Now if you de-dome those XM-L2's, whoa, potentially it can reach the same 450-500 but with a lot more spill and output. Of course for a couple more pounds and a lot less runtime .

YES :stuck_out_tongue:

I just got done taking these beamshots on the same exact camera settings as the 110yd shots above of man exposure 1.2 sec shutter f/4 ISO 400 to show you guys that Vinh’s TN31 XM-L2 mod holds its own with a 540k approx Power On Board 35watt HID spotlight.

Now I took this one of the POB at 300yds. The only thing different between this one and the TN31 300yd shot is the focal on this one is 4 and on the TN31 it was 3.2.

So to show a mouseover and mouseout comparison between these 2 mouseover for the POB 35 watt HID and mouseout for the Vinhnguyen54 dedomed XM-L2 6.5 amp TN31. Now you be the judge. I know which one I'm picking for the one that won.

That pool wall says it all. This even surprises me.

Unthinkable!

That means this Vinhnguyen54 TN31 mod will easily out throw a FF4.

That’s what I say.

To be fair I’m gonna go take another TN31 shot to show the same beamshots from the exact same nite.

I will find out soon enough. I have a TN31mb and a Vinh modified TN31 coming. I also have a Vinh modified TK75 with dedomed emitters. My TN31mb was measured at 400k. It will be interesting how the TN31 modded by Vinh stacks up and depending on Brad’s pictures I might order a K40 as well. The TK75 with dedomed XM-L2s might be the most impressive light I have though. I also have a modded Dereelight that slightly out throws the TN31mb. If I had a decent camera I would probably bust my beam shot cherry but no dice there. Maybe I can see if I can borrow one.

Ok here you boys go to be fair. I picked the best out of 4 shots. So both of these samples were taken on the exact same nite. So mouseover POB 35 watt HID spotlight mouseout Vinhnguyen54 dedomed XM-L2 TN31.

Again I’ll have to pick the Vinhnguyen54 TN31.

Does that guy pay you for turning his pool into a hot tub? Lol

I really want to see the k40 modded compared to these.

I heay ya! No pay yet. LOL!

I’ll show you some beamshots soon. Vinh told me in a pm at CPFMP that he can’t really tell much difference between the TN31 that he does vs the K40.

Now who said this vinhnguyen54 TN31 wasn’t 500K?

Saablaster tested his POB 35watt 6000K spotlight on his light meter to be right at 531K lux if my memory is correct which I know it’s right at that number. I say mine should be right at what his was.

I was about right on the money. Read post #11 here.

I would believe the TN31 was 500k before I would the HID. They are both great lights but I know I would much rather own the TN31 that is really an impressive light.

I keep saying I’m going to spring for some better testing equipment but then I see stuff like this and read all the other stuff too and the only thing I am really convinced of is that no two people’s meters read the same. It’s one of the reason why I never post any of my testing information. I know my stuff isn’t accurate so why bother? My multi-meter helps me mod and my light meter gives me an idea of which light is brighter about as well as doing a ceiling bounce test with my eyes or just comparing throw.

I know the only light that I have that competes in throw would by my T90 That’s a 68mm reflector running 7amps with a de-domed XM-L2 U2 on a 20mm octogon. Even though I now have it focused nearly perfect I really doubt I am hitting 500k but I do think the TN31 could be, at least it’s possible. The T90 will put a round hotspot on trees that my BTU shocker’s flood at 300 yards was just lighting up. The BTU shocker stock just isn’t a super thrower in my book. I also have a 65watt HID and the T90 outthrows it easy.

This should be an awesome mod ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS. :open_mouth:

I have tried modding my SupBeam K40 myself but all I did was dedome the stock MCPCB with its original XM-L U2 LED and do a resistor mod (+ 3 R120 in parallel) which should give 6.77 Amps to the LED. I hope ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS won’t mind if I post beam shots of my K40.

I just can’y imagine how better it would be if I do the other mods done by vinh. I’m still learning to do it for now.
