Used my Ultrafire U-80 for self-defence

The Warrior is one of my all time favorites. The whole kit that comes with it is really cool.

Me being a dog lover and dad, stop, stand still, stand tall like you own the place. (turf) Suck in the stomach and look bigger; use a commanding voice and say STOP! or SIT! Look toward but not into the dog's eyes. They see it as a challenge if you look directly into their eyes. And many little dogs don't get trained right and get a Napoleon complex.

I walk 3 of our dogs and I carry 3 lights, a knife, stun gun and pepper spray, more for the two legged animals just in case.

Hope this helps for the future!

Oh, and I saw the post over there. Figured it wasn't gonna get past the Ministry of Truth...

Firstly, let me begin by again ranting about the extreme low quality of people that moderate and run CPF. Hideous sub-human diarrhea not fit to be flushed down a filthy gas station toilet bowl... and that would be an understatement. Off all the pages and forums I've visited throughout the years, none are as heavily edited as the CPF Nazis that rule solely based upon their own personal opinions, and with complete malicious disregard for other peoples feelings and opinions. I'm not condoning violence, but I'm in utter shock that several of them haven't been paid personal visits for some serious attitude adjustments and social therapy training.

I'm glad to hear the dog didn't hurt anyone. I've had to kick several dogs through the years I lived in San Jose, CA (I'm a hiker, bicyclist and devout animal lover). That city was full of stray dogs at the time that were treated very poorly by their previous owners. Most people today raise their pets as lovers, not fighters, and its been years since I've had to protect myself. I carry my M20 without the SS bezel because it takes away about 20% of the lumens. I might have to screw it back on after reading about your experiences with it! I must say, its probably Olights overall best engineered piece and built to last.

Long odd story several years ago, but I once had to hit someone in the mouth with a 4D mag incan version. He was attacking a woman in a parking lot. 1 tooth was instantly extracted and broke his lower mandible (he attacked violently and wouldn’t quit). It actually broke the lens and reflector and dented the bezel on my brand new mag. A lesser lighter weight light probably wouldn't have fended off the attack. I carried a 6D clipped in my car for many years after that incident. I now carry D mags in every 4 wheeled vehicle I own and often buy them along with the clip on mounting kit for friends and family as Christmas gifts. Lowes sells the LED version for around $15 during that time of the year.

Again, its good of you to react swinging violently when all else fails. Always protect yourself and your family. Thanks for sharing your experience... you'll find no retched diarrhea on this forum. Just good people respectful of others experiences and opinions.

LOL.....Yep. But it was a somewhat small target.

Actually I did shout something but I guess I wasn't really shouting commands loud enough like what they do in the army. Will try next time, esp in a low tone.

At my old apartment which I was staying 2 years ago, there was a really "crazy" small dog which would bark very aggressively whenever we walk past my neighbour's house, absolutely without fail. There is a metal gate at the door so he is kept shut inside. Several times I would just try to stare and look into its eyes with my teeth showing, yep you are right it would see it as a challenge and even bark louder. In fact if i make funny faces it will get so excited and start to bark as if someone killed his whole family of dogs many generations over that it'd run out of breath 2-3 mins later just by barking/running and jumping around like super CRAZY and feel somewhat faint and the eyes start rolling around. We call it "crazy dog", it really would tire itself out just by barking and going crazy as if its on drugs. LOL! You don't even have to do nothing..... Its just somewhat bigger than a Chihuahua....not sure what's the breed.

So I guess there are some dogs which would not be afraid of humans, you just have to show who's boss. If its a poorly brought-up Pitbull/Rottwiller then I think you better pray that you have a taser, big stun gun or at least a bear strength pepper spray with you. (all of which are illegal here, but anyway I think Pitbulls/Rottweilers are also disallowed breeds)

Hmm interesting. Do you think this works for a completely untrained street dog? Around these parts there are countless quantities of untrained mutts that roam the street that don't belong to anybody that breed out of control and have never ever received attention from a human. So I wonder if this would work. With these dogs, all I have to do is quickly crouch down as though I were reaching for a stone, and they turn tail and run.

A viscious Chihuahua puppy huh..?? the police are on the lookout for this suspect ..look at the claws..:p

It's easy to get bent out of shape about over zealous moderators. For some of them, it's their pride and joy, their offspring! Letting a complete stranger on the internet get you that upset though and wishing harm upon them...not worth the effort. It's anonymity and the sheer popularity provided by arse kissing that sets many of the moderators on their sermon. Chalk it up to 'weirdos' and let them have their playground.

Met one of those at the vet's today. Dieta was fascinated - she could have swallowed two of them in one gulp. And she's tiny for a giant schnauzer. Fizz weighed 115lb, Dieta is 80lb - and needs to get from 33.45kg to 30kg - Fizz was 51kg. But Dieta's never been an alpha dog and never will be. Fizz certainly was an alpha. Dieta wanted to mother the pup. Who knew it and wasn't in the slightest worried by Dieta.

My(and girlfriend) dogs don't event blink when I give them 300lumens(aprox.) from a XML.(4 of these-hunters- and 2 of these-farm guard)

I have a very straighforward relashionship with animals. I grew(and weekend live) on a farm. I've had goats as pets, and then killed them and ate them.(eg.) No remorse, whatsoever. Just life.

I believe they serve a purpose. As companions, or as meat, or as workers.

I can understand the love some people have with animals. I do too. But not when people are at risk. The threat should be "deleted".

I am sorry if I have ofended someone. My personal experience and upbringing, probably made me kind of "animal love proof", but that's me.

That dog doesn't have fault for what it did, it's genetic. You didn't too. You are clever, bigger and had to defend your family/siblings. That flashlight should not have been thrown. It should have been "bezeled".

Hell of a rebound nick in the wall!

Heh heh.....well the usual reaction was to stand back which we did a bit, I guess I shouldn't have shooed it coz then it started to like lunge forward towards the little boy (smaller, easy target?) and there really was no choice. There are some foul tempered dogs here, probably because the owners just treat them as 100% pets, spoil them and don't do training. The enthusiasts would train them, its the regular guy that's the problem. Some regular owners put them into the service yard in an apartment and they do not know that its damn hot there, they just bark non-stop from morning to evening when the owners go off to work...that's pretty cruel to the dog as the weather gets darn hot over here. I have been to many homes (wedding photographer here) and some are just plain nasty. A lot of them bark non-stop etc, if you are not careful you would get nicked when you get too near it even with your back towards it and even after letting it smell/check you out (territorial).

Over here in my country, people keep dogs as high-class pets in 99% majority of the cases, few are for work/more serious purposes. I have seen some in luxury homes enjoying a life that is better than us. :D

Ive never had goat for supper before. Is it tasty? What would you compare it to?

"Ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a!"

I used a 800lumen strobe on a cat the other night ..they skulk around the yard and the dog starts barking at 2am... the cat did not like the strobe .I followed it up the street with my best thrower proving to it I had the ability to reach out and touch something .

can't wait to see what the racoon thinks about a strobe ...

nothing else seems to phase them ..maybe the light plus a really sharp "crack"

I'll respond to several posts here, so if there's non-sequitors, that's why.

First, about the CPF rant... that's exactly why I'm here! I've never been a member there, but I often find their threads in search results. I was thinking of signing up there, but read their rules page first, and it made me realize that they were, indeed, as much of assholes as they sounded like. Replace "banned" with "disappeared", and the rules reads like a banana dictator's human rights report... Question why someone was disappeared, and you will be disappeared too. etc.

I've found the vast majority of unpleasant dogs were raised that way by their owners, often intentionally. People want guard dogs, and raise their dogs to dislike everyone. Or they just neglect and abuse them. This is especially a problem with pit bulls around here - there's nothing genetically wrong with them, but thousands of people buy them, then leave them outside and randomly beat the crap out of them, because they want a "tough" dog so they can be cool... the shelters here are full of pit bulls that ran away from their abusive owners, but are so scarred (mentally and often physically) that they're hard to adopt out. And then there's the dope growers (most growers are perfectly normal people, but there's always a few idiots mixed in with any group) and homeless (same thing) who intentionally train them to attack anything and anyone that comes near them...

Yes, yelling works on completely untrained dogs. "I'm being yelled at" is understood in any language, human or animal. It lets them know that you're going to argue back, or that you understand them. Some dogs seem to act aggressive to weed out their friends and foes, too, as a test to see how you respond. Yes, dogs do think like that - their understanding of social responses can be surprisingly high. Then again, some dogs are just mean. But they're really rare.

It always annoys me when I hear about specific breeds being banned.... there is NOTHING WRONG with pits or rots. Both are very friendly dogs that are exceptionally good with kids, in fact. There is, however, something wrong with a large portion of their owners. People who want to raise/ruin a "tough" dog start with a breed with a reputation, thus furthering the reputation when they succeed. Even wolves (my favorite breed.. and me! woof!) can be quite nice dogs, although they tend to dislike strangers more than some breeds.

I've found most animals seem completely unfazed by lights. Some will look the other way, but that's about it. I've tried strobe mode on raccoons, rats, dogs, cats, and birds, and none of them cared in the slightest.

--Bushytails

Nice post bushytail. Yeah, even with us the human race, we sometimes need to blame the parents rather than the kids. Dogs do not go "crazy" for no reason, unless they are sick or they are brought up that way.

goat - the other, alternative red meat ...

my buddy says if you like lamb try goat , course i kill for lamb ( just too expensive - cattle trade monopoly lol ) , havent tried it yet but i will try anything edible

Just to recap , we are reading a rejected post from the infamous CPF -- we have gotten to eating goats ! ROFL AND , AND...

did anyone ask if the flashlight lit up ???? i may have missed that, you gotta love this forum though

OK this i think is a turning point , i think i need to have way to attach a para-cord to all my lights. rather than throwing the light you can swing it.

if you have used nunchucks or nunchaku , you know the devastating power these can apply. please be careful !!

but now i want a heavy duty piece of aluminum , unless someone knows a seriously heavy duty prefabbed flashlight host with a large hole ...

booring but looks handy Monkey's Fist knot for preping a cord handle

[quote=df2dot]

Yes, if you are asking if my flashlight is still functioning after that, it is.

lights work well with deer.

I can't compare to other foods. It tastes as goat. Not sheep, nor chicken, not cow, not pig. Goat. Don't know any food with the same taste. The young ones have a strong taste. One of the tricks is to put a shot of brandy(or is it spirit? don't know the english name) when it's roasting in the oven. It reduces a lot, the strong flavour that it's got.

The best(for me) are the still milk fed little goatlings.( google translation. In portuguese, we called them cabritos) We roast them in a wood oven. Yumy!

With the elder goats, we usually sell them, but sometimes we keep one, and we do a dish called chanfana. It's just a big pot, with it's meat(with bones), red wine, salt, bay leaves, olive oil, garlic, chili(piri-piri) and it slow cooks for 12h. This is a winter dish. Awesome and powerfull taste. It's the best way to cook older animals.(sheep for instance) The meat is too hard.

Sorry about the offtopic, but hell, this is BLF! Were the threads start on knives and end in pottery.
