Which driver to buy for 3x MT-G2 I have lots of room and heatsinking?

Ok so I bought another J-19 and it’s on the way. What driver should I buy to get the most out of 3 MG-T2’s? There is plenty of room and the pill is large enough and screws into the head which is huge and the body of the flashlight is heavy too. So I really want to push them hard. I’ll be running 3 king kong unprotected batteries. The current driver is 26mm.

Would this one work?

The 9A driver with LEDs in parallel (3A each) will waste less power than a boost driver with LEDs in series.

Is this the driver you are talking about?

How many lumens would I be looking at with this driver? 3A each doesn’t seem like much.

oh man, ive got to see the final results of this masterpiece! lemme me know if you wanna sell it after its finished hahah.

It would be the same current to each LED as the 7x boost driver, without the inefficiency of a boost driver. Still close to 60 watts just for the LEDs not counting waste heat from the driver. The boost driver would be even worse.

Ok I see and I guess that makes sense. That is probably as hard as I should push the batteries and stuff anyway. I think I’ll go ahead and order it unless you have any better suggestions. It sounds like it would run them pretty well.

Thanks a lot for the help.

OK, Well I went and ordered the stuff so I’m now officially broke and will be stalking the mailman.

I’m now going to have one of these with XM-L2 U2’s on copper driven super hard and one with the MG-T2’s on copper driven moderately hard. It should be interesting seeing them side by side.

Is the 9A driver suitable for 3 cells in series??

"Input: 5,5-12V

MAX 15V"

A general question. Lets say the pill had space for two 9A drivers (and those work perfectly with 3-cells) , could both of those be wired to the same contact board?

A theoretical 18amps divided on 3 MT-G2s with the right batteries. J) J)

Mode spacing:

bright - extremely bright.. OMG you gotta be kidding me bright! J)

They need to make some better 32650’s Seriously I have no idea if that would work but it would be amazing if it did.

I think even the best cells on the planet will fall from 12.6 to 12 or less as soon as it's switched on. It runs great on 3 cells. It's juuuust a tad too much for a single MTG2, but it does work and does put out an honest 9A to the emitter. With my ex-laptop Panasonic 2900s I measured 6.6A at the tailcap, never checked the input voltage under load though.

The LEDs are happiest at around 3A anyway, beyond that the heat they give off takes off like a rocket while the light output increases at a much less extreme rate.

That’s cool, at 3amps each they should run pretty well then and still make for one very bright light. Still not sure if this mod is worth the money but it’s fun anyway. These are on octogons and the heat sinking is good so it should be a happy light that can handle being on high with no problems.

I sure hope the MT-Gs will fit. I’ve been trying to build a triple and I can’t find a reflector that fits. The holes can’t even be opened up to accommodate the emitter because there is no room for expansion. I keep having my plans foiled because of this. Does anyone know of a triple reflector that will fit or can be widened to fit MT-G2s?

OCTOGON

NOCTIGON

:)

LOL yes noctogons not octogons.

This light has a fairly large spacer outside the emitters. It fits around the outside of the square board that the emitter sits on. I don’t see why it wouldn’t fit.

Can’t you simply take a round file to the reflectors you have? That is what I did with the double MT-G2 I built.

ROFL..

noctigons not noctogons... You'll get there.. :D

Oh jeeze I can tell it’s getting late. I wonder how many ways I can misspell it? :~

Assuming you at least get the number of letters correct:

208,827,064,575

If you also get at least the first letter right:

8,031,810,175

I don’t even have the spare time to spell it wrong that many times.

PilotPTK What do you think of the driver selection?
