The BEAST - TN31 (6.5A) Vinh light has arrived and tested - WOW!!!!

Unfortunately I don’t know. This light is second hand, so not sure if it was the original XML2 or not. And if I am hearing correctly, Vinh totally bypasses the resistors. Tom E or Vinh answer that one much better than I can.

That reminds me of direct drive…Vinh was known to successfully achieve that with his early XML P60 dropins powered on a single IMR16340!

510K how much is that in throw? 1000m? 700m? 2km?

according to the throw calculator spreadsheet i borrowed from _the_ ... 1,428 meters

WOW! :open_mouth:

Can’t wait for the outdoor beam shots.

Oh I forgot. I tested lumens on the lower settings too. Here is all the settings -
Level 1 - .4
Level 2 - 18
Level 3 - 471
Level 4 - 1050
Level 5 - 1515
Level 6 - 1740
Pretty usuable spread of levels still.

Me too!

Very nice. I like the tint. Is that the 1A tint or the stock 1C tint?

EDIT: I mean tint rating before dedome.

There should be 6 levels.

The sixth level goes over 2000 lumens

Crap your right. Looks like I missed a level. I just tested them again. I stopped at 1050 thinking that was below the highest level. Nope. Level 5 is 1515 and level 6 is 1740. I’ll correct my numbers above. It has THREE power levels over 1000 lumens on an XML based thrower. This light is truly a beast.

That sounds like a beast
I remember when Vihn did initial XM-L2 testing he couldn’t get much more than 4.5A into them, even direct drive. I wonder how he got around it?

thats remarkable. love the modes too. looking forward to seeing them beamshots.

We need a K40 tested against a TN31 modded!

rdrfronty,

Let me know and I will get a K40 your way.

Vinh

I just realized you are in Washington…State or DC? And do you let people come see some of your work?

I’m worried about how the led will survive this level of amps over time, although i guess a new one can be put in. How is the heat?

Oh boy, that’s crazy insane.
But then this makes me curious… How well would an over-driven XPG2 do? HO HO HO I’m getting excited.

I am absolutely blown away by this! 510k? What kind of witch craft is going on inside that light? How is the LED not a smoldering pile of ash

I thought my 223kcd BTU Shocker was badass….Now I feel inadequate and weak.

The TN31mb is a de-domed, over-driven XPG2

It can’t be over-driven to the extent of the XML2.
I’m thinking of like around 5-5.5A for the XPG2. Not sure if they can handle it though.
