Crap your right. Looks like I missed a level. I just tested them again. I stopped at 1050 thinking that was below the highest level. Nope. Level 5 is 1515 and level 6 is 1740. I’ll correct my numbers above. It has THREE power levels over 1000 lumens on an XML based thrower. This light is truly a beast.
That sounds like a beast
I remember when Vihn did initial XM-L2 testing he couldn’t get much more than 4.5A into them, even direct drive. I wonder how he got around it?
He jumpers the resistors - I've been doing the same thing. Actually been posting in your TN31 mod thread. I'm not sure of all the details, but I've gotten in the 1,700 range, measuring a little lower in kcd though, so I'm missing something, or doing something different that's effecting output, or just not measuring output/throw the same - dunno yet. However, the lights do seem stable jumpering the resistors - kind of scary though.
For TN31's, I've done 2 older XML's and 1 new XM-L2 version the same way, and so far, no problems, but I did upgrade the XML emitters to XM-L2 U2's before doing the resistor mod (or lack thereof ). Yes - read bout yours and not sure what happened - could be we are play'n with fire, on the edge...
It does get warm pretty quickly. But in the couple minutes I used it so far for testing & etc. it wasn’t getting hot, warm yes, but not hot yet. So it can handle more run time than that. I think Vinh just recommends always use it with your bare hands and if it starts getting uncomfortable warm to hold, then turn it off or down a notch or two in power. I mean on level 4 its still got almost the power of a stock TN31.
