XM-L2 T6-E3 5000K

What does this emitter look like beam/tint wise? thx

Do you mean 3C?

E3 is particular group of tints, 3B, 3C, 3A, and 3D, basically various tints and various Kelvins.

Cheers guys,

Was just wondering cos someone was selling a light I want modded with that emitter. I like neutral tints

Thanks Hikelite. The tint varies slightly in this range. Your name rings a bell for some reason.

Mine or Hike?

I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that technically the E3 kit from Cree includes the 3C performance group, as well as the 3A, 3B, 3D groups. These colors will be very very close to each other and personally are some of my favorite tints especially the 3C since they seem very “neutral” to my eyes. As you correctly stated, the E3 kit falls in around 5000K CCT, which is warmer than most ‘cool white’ lights, but not so warm as to look yellow to my eyes at least. For a general purpose light, this is the tint I would go with.

And since you asked about the entire E3 kit, relative to each other:
3A ~5125K - slightly more purple/rose
3B ~5125K - slightly more blue
3C ~4875K - slightly more yellow/green
3D ~4875K - slightly more orange/amber

I'd say stay away from 3B from all the bunch. 3D is similar to 3C not that rosy as you can imagine in those ANSI white charts.

3A is basically at the same level with the 3D.

Mmm… so its a bit of a lottery then… I like not too warm daylight tints…

Here’s was sellers response…

“The XM-L2 is a great LED. The neutral is really nice because you get the benefit of slightly better rendition of red and less blues without turning things really yellow or brownish.”

It’s not too bad of a lottery if the kit (E3) is specified, since that’s a fairly specific group of tints. (All around 5000K) If you like your neutral whites not too warm, you’ll probably like these.

RaceR86 has a nice ANSI white chart in his LED Database thread in post 181. Here is a link:

I hope it is ok to link the image here:

+1

Do not worry, in the end any of them will be ok for what you like, they will be great for outdoors.
