Thrower & Flooder Beamshots (Very Photo Heavy)

+1 on almost ALL the above comments.

Dreams I’d like to see:

- 4 K40s strapped together Terminator style like those L2s

- DST DD-XML2 runing the amps of the K40 or TN31

- A TexasPyro or PilotPPK driver that improves on the best performing driver in the test

PS - That XPG2 Ultrafire C8 is a champ!

Awesome Work, thanks

I wonder if you may include new trustfires in comparison, that J12 still a beastlight

Thanks again

Great beamshots, thanks! Very useful. Now I need to get off my butt and get an FF4.

Bang for Your buck, that BTU IOS driver is the best performer here in my opinion.

Edit: nevermind, just noticed it’s modded

this thread is precious reference.
appreciate and thanks for your works, rdrfronty!

Wow, excellent job with the pic shoot! The lights seem to track well with the tested kcd results.

In preliminary testing, it's looking like the de-domed IOS driver based Shocker will compete with the 6.5A de-domed TN31 in throw (400+ kcd), while losing lumens - usual de-doming trade-off.

What an excellent collection of comparable beam shots. Thank you Rdrfronty very much for all the work involved to create this thread.

Thank you guys for doing this, a VERY helpful piece for the reference library!

Gotta say I’m surprised how little difference 100Kcd makes when you’re 555m out. It’s quite interesting, seeing how numbers translate to the real world! 8)

WOWWWW. Awesome collection of lights and shots! The zoom shots Really put the proof out there.

At first the firefoxes at 60w looked to be the winner but second look gives it to the tn31 XM-L2 at 6.5a.
Very nice, thanks a lot

I've owned a 6.5A TN31 and I have a 6.5A K40 coming but that FF4 looks like a much more useful light.

It's too bad the UI is so strange. I would like Low-Med-High with 2 minute step-down on High.

Awesome shots guys…and I’m less than an hour from Montgomery. What park were you at? Next time give me a heads-up and I’ll poke mah head out tha winder to see tha light show :cowboy_hat_face:

I believe it is called Montgomery County Park. Its on HWY 149 about 3-1/2 miles north of 105. Rather than stick your head out the winder and watch, grab what you got and come on down and join the party. There is never too many lights! Lol.

That FF4.. I needs it! Thanks for sharing!

Hmmm…might have to take you up on that. Wouldn’t be able to add much to your impressive collection…but it would be fun!

That’s what it’s all about. Definitely a blast!

Great job, guys! Thanks for sharing your hard work, guys. 8)

right on brothers! thanks very much for your time and hard work on this showdown.
i spent a good amount of time comparing each picture, and i enjoyed looking at them.
looks like the modded vinh tn31 took the price, ff4 came in second, and vinh k40 took silver.

but my overall favorite was the tom e modded btu shocker because of the brightness in spill and still very good throw.

i havent seen a j12 in a while, and to see that up in the mix, i was actually impressed. i wish you had more of these long tube multi emitters like the 7, 9, 12, and 15 xmls just because i love flooders.

makes me kinda want a j12 for my dad. is it for sale? haha

.
Can anyone do a “mouse over for the short and long range FF4 vs TN31 6.5a

rdrfronty

Is that a drop-off just before the 1st target? Looking at bright foreground just before target and trees framing target in FF4 long range pic. Could full hotspot been a little shallow?

thanks you guys work! Wish I could have been there and had a beer or two!

Sorry. Lol. I just bought it myself. It is a nice floody light for sure. I just bought the beast driver for it from KD so hopefully in a few weeks it will be even nicer than it already is.

There is a slight drop off about 75m before the 300m target. It also is about the point the county starts maintaining/mowing the grass better. This the grass line you can see.
The main reason you see those trees looking brighter than the 300m target area is because they are much closer. The the trees in that channel stop at about 200m from the lights. It is an open field for the last 100m. Still some trees to the right, but they have little effect on the shots.
I’m not by my computer until this evening, so i cant do the direct comparison until this evening. Anybody else handy at doing it is welcome to do mouse overs or whatever if they get a chance.
