With all due respect gords (you are totally the man to me), I don't see the issue here. Someone reported what they probably thought may be much better deals. It's possible, but doubtful, that they are better deals. Deeper scrutiny will reveal the truth. The way I look at is, if someone (anyone) is proclaiming a truth, the truth, if real, will prevail against attack and look that much more the better for it.

This forum is about being frugal. The 2nd post could have been more delicate about it, but I think it is fine. Whatever the intention of it, its potential result is the heart of why I joined this forum. Truth will eventually support whether the post is correct or not.

I can be very dense when it comes to politeness and politics. Please feel free to educate me in a straightforward, easy for a 1st grader to understand, manner.

I am not saying I dont trust you or anything Wayne because you do have a good rep here and at CPF, but if we could get an independent test of these exact cells from your source tested with full discharge data sheets like the ones HKJ does my interest would be over the top.

If these batteries have been tested and testing info is available, or not, I’ll check and see.

I can opt for these batteries, or the INR batteries I had sold before, or the Moli 26700a I had been selling before.

Mainly I was looking to see what kind of interest there is out there for the 26650 type battery. Although I sort of know from past experience of selling the batteries there is pretty good interest.

I have been considering also offering a 18650 battery of some sort, and a charger. I had been selling the TR-005 charger.

+1, I’m up for the truth being let out, not censorship. It was kinda bad form maybe to post directly after, but we aren’t on CPF to make companies or even good people more money by censoring options, I think that’s also bad form. It would have been better to relate all the bad experiences with aliexpress (which are true) and the likelihood that these cells are counterfeit (also true) and leave the post, censoring it makes it more, not less tempting to go find. Another thing, if you followed the link and went to the site to look, one of the listings showed 2.5 A maximum discharge, while another had specs that seemed to look as though they copied the specs from somewhere else, more strong indications about the questionable nature of those “Moli” cells. :wink: Plus, you can hardly get Ultrafire large capacity 18650 cells for $3 each…something is very fishy about those listings and I think the truth speaks for itself.

+100 Will be looking to buy some 26650s relatively soon and I want some higher output cells than my Trustfire flames :slight_smile:

INR cells are ok, I have some of the better quality ones, but even those are only truly "good" to about 7 amps. I've seen other chem cells that claim 10-20 amp discharge, and maybe they are safe up to that, but none of them will carry that heavy of a load (accept the 3.3V Life cells and similar). A 3.8V cell that can actually carry above a ten amp load would be in a class all by itself. I understand that these are nothing new, but I never realized they were so robust.

Just curious, how do you arrive at the information here? The INR I have seem to easily put out 10 amps.

Moli is not the only high current cell, try checking the Sony cell I have just reviewed, it handles 50A, but has less capacity than the Moli cell.

I would like to test the Moli cell, but shipping is probably to expensive.

Sure. Dont get me wrong I'm not bagging on INR cells its just that all of the ones I have seen that will even carry a load that high sag below what I consider to be a useful voltage. I have not seen any INR cells that will keep the voltage above 3.5 ( which is the very least I need to drive emitters at high current) for more than about the first 20% of the cycle.

See how at only about 500ma the voltage sag is under 3.5V at ten amp.

I did also find that Molicel has put out their own graphs here for the 26700A cell.

Even under a tremendous 20 amp load the cell carries the load at over 3.5V to what looks like about 2200ma.

So we now we know the cells can do it, and I am not doubting your integrity as a seller Wayne, I just think it would seal the deal if we had a pair of cells from your supplier that were verified :)

Thanks HKJ. I had no idea sony had a 26mm cell. I used to rob Makita tool packs to get the VT 18650 cells years ago to power up 100 watt incan bulbs, they were great cells.

I'm wondering if my cells are very old. I pulled them from tool packs. Does anyone know where the date code is and how to decipher it?

If mine are old, I may be interested in buying 2 to 4.

EDIT: I've searched several times for an answer on the date code, but my google-fu was not strong enough each time.

EDIT2: If I order, I would prefer the card board wrapper. It is much tougher than shrink wrap. I can always shrink wrap myself. Plus, there is identifying information on the cardboard wrapper and the cardboard wrapper allows the cells to work in my SRK's.

The batteries I started this thread about are the inexpensive ones, seen on Alibaba. The price varies depending on the quantity and who they are purchased from. How they perform, needs to be verified. I can see I best buy a few and find someone to test them.

It's all good. It's just a sign we are passionate about our hobby. At the end of the day, we are all friends. At least I hope so.

You purchasing straight from the manufacturer means a lot to me. These cells (the ones that can deliver 40+ amps continuous) have been used by the RC community for some time with great success. They do crazy things with these cells that make us look like tame kittens in comparison.

It would be great if you get them tested by a qualified BLFer. I know it would put a lot of folks at ease and probably result in more sales. I don't need you go get them tested for my sake though. I just need to know how old my cells are before I make a decision to purchase.

elektrolumens, depending on how it works out and if your game for shipping outside your borders I would potentially be interested in a set of 3-4 of these. Currently my 26650 cell collection consists of 8 Trustfire 5k’s and 3 Moli 26650C’s which I grabbed off ebay and are not really high current cells from my understanding (although I don’t know how or have the ability to test them myself). I really don’t think you would have any issues selling through a lot of 100 of these in no time since most I would think would buy 2-4 cells each and it would be coming from someone we trust! :wink:

If you’re referring to the genuine Molicell, they will be brand new and unused. These cells are what are used in items ranging from power tools all the way up to electric powered autos. If someone wants to test these, that’s fine, but they perform as expected, and far exceed the power demands of any flashlight I know of.

Regarding the lesser expensive batteries, they should indeed be tested, and how they perform, I’m not exactly sure. I have already contacted the manufacturer of Molicell 26700a batteries, for both a price quote and also I asked him for his opinion about the other batteries. Awaiting a response.

I am just interested at what kind of voltage sag there would be under certain loads. It is hard to drive an xml2 hard with a single cell, and that is mainly what i would like this for. HKJ is just one of the best battery reviewers.

Direct drive, the Moli 26700a will fry 3 XM-L2 LEDs. Not much sag with this battery, there is really no comparison between the 26700a and any of the 26650 batteries out there, that you can buy. It’s a different animal. Seems to me someone should have already done a review on this battery, but, perhaps not. If HKJ wants to review this battery, it’s fine with me. Or anyone else. What I would be selling is not batteries removed from battery packs, but brand new, unused from the manufacturer, batteries. They come to me 50% charged. I ship them out not having been charged up to max, so they arrive to you to be the first time user.
