Taking things to extremes..

Nick, that’s a new one for our DRINKS OP !

Slightly off topic, what is the feeling on Ledlensers here, at the “other” forum you ain’t allowed to mention the product with out getting flamed.

Really? Why is that? I think you can mention anything here. But some people may not like the light/brand, some having more or less fans than others…just opinions, and as I see it, opinions are less filtered, more reasoned out and more in favor of quality vs price here, which I think is best. But some don’t agree, and some want to buy Surefire, and that’s fine too.

Just looking over that brand they appear to be pricey for the lumen output, and Ni-mh but if you dont want Li-ions maybe they are good, I dont know much about pricing for those.

Didn’t leatherman buy Ledlenser? My only knowledge of ledlenser, their prices are seem a bit high.

They are pricey, but are well marketed and distributed in camping and outdoor stores here at home, I own a few and have gifted many to friends as its quick to go and buy and people love them , the mostly take AA or AAA batteries.

Yep Leatherman own them.

+1

Overpriced for what you get, there’s better value out there, unless you’re a fan  .

Led Lenser have more typical European pricing. Its just the China stuff that are so cheap everywhere due to low shipping, low taxes, low wages and everyting. Maglites are dirt cheap in the US, but not in EU.

Led-Lenser also charge a premium price due to their patented zoom-lenses, and no one seems to beat them on that department. So they have an attractive unique selling point (at least for average Joe). Led Lenser also focus a lot on nimh batteries. Combine nimh with zoom and then look at good competitors. There is basically none.

I would consider Led-Lenser before most Surefire lights. At-least you get something special for your money.

Btw. Fancyflashlights have laser printing on their hosts... I can make potential Surefire buyers a light with the name Surefire on the side. Just PM me. 399$ a piece. You even got copper mounted MCPCB, fully programmable driver circuit, various emitter options, latest generation emitter, nice tints and the CRI you desire. And just to mention it twice. The name, Surefire, laser printed on the side... 0:) I know, the name surefire adds a lot to the price. So ill do a special 199$ a piece for a body without the name, just in case customers want discretion or are budget minded.. :D

Does anyone else make diffusers or filters like these Surefire (spring-loaded cover-cap and locking lever)?
http://www.surefire.com/parts-accessories/filters-diffusers-covers/fm44-beam-diffuser.html

Wow, $140 just for the diffuser? I hope its at least a pure quartz crystal hand worked “glass” in it then… :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know what that’s all about but they are certainly an expensive premium brand here in the UK. I have never owned one so I can’t say if they are worth the price. The big marketing points here are that our police force use them, they have some super-duper patented optics and they use German technology (so they must be great - like BMW’s !)

My impression of them is that it’s a mainstream brand you buy if you don’t know about boards like this. But I don’t own any so that’s just my opinion. I’ve seen them at the store but holding them in my hand, they didn’t seem like they were comparable to other good brands like Fenix, so I put them back on the shelf.

But there doesn’t seem to be anything inherently wrong with them. I have seen threads on that other board where people who like the brand are ridiculed, which I see no reason for. If it’s a brand you like, they seem like an OK brand and I can’t think of a reason not to buy one, and Leatherman their owner is certainly a brand I trust.

I don’t see it as close minded to not want to drop that kind of money. Sureforce lights are all hype in my opinion. Their technology is way outdated. The only claim to fame I keep hearing is their Superior workmanship. But is it really all that better than some of the upper end Chinese companies like Fenix, Crelant & all the other overseas companies. As one Surefire owners.aid If I bought upper end lights from the above mentioned light companies. Not to waste my time on surefire. I’d only be disappointed.

Crelant is a joke compared to surefire, just saying. I think this has been covered pretty good. If you like them go get some if not there are tons of whateverfire you want out there. I have a few like I said earlier, and I am defiantly not a surefire fan boy. The newer stuff is on par performance wise if not ahead of a lot of the other manufacturers out there in the same size light class. Defiantly not outdated by any means. I see no reason why people keep on comparing the surefire stuff that was out 5 years ago. Of course that is outdated. Plus this is BLF not CPF so a majority of the folk here are going to be against them and see zero value in them, but if a lot of the naysayers tried the newer stuff I am sure there would be a few different opinions on them here. I was the same way until I got a furry. I like all kinds of lights, some better than others. I guess it is what it is.

What is some off their newer stuff? Is it posible to find something that will compete with say… I dont know… The XinTD for under $100?

I am sure that you know enough about surefire to know that you cant get much for under $100

 yep yep!!! And I completely disagree about the Crelant comment. I have the 7G2cs u3 & the 7G5 cs U3. They are awesome! & I am willing to thumb wrestle over it.

LOL, thumbs all in.

Its not that they are junk (crelant) they just are not as well made. I had two crelants and they just felt cheap. IDK maybe I just had bad ones.

I would have to say the furry would be the closet to $100. It was the first surefire I could justify buying. Since it was putting out a decent amount of lumen. It is quite a bit smaller that the XinT, but has more flood and comparable throw. I like mine.
