Review: XinTD X3 (3S AA / 26650)

Beamshots, lumens, battery life and lumens sag :D! THROW!

Id like to know whether I should choose D40A or X3 and neither you nor the have finished your reviews :P!

What's wrong with the beam shots I have up now? Do you mean wall shots?

I still need to standardize how I take those readings before I add it to the top.

Lumens will require me to finish building and calibrating my integrating sphere bucket, and even that might be a while because I'm probably going to get a different lux meter that will require me to recalibrate and retest everything.

I can't do lumen sag.

Tailcap readings will come tomorrow, and battery life can be estimated from that.

I am still waiting for outdoor AA beamshots. How hard could this be? :wink:

I forgot about that. That's going to be at least a few days. I don't go out to that park at night on weekends. Too much gang activity.

Btw, try setting your camera’s white balance to “tungsten”. This ought to be the right setting for the pics taken in your light box :slight_smile:
For the outdoor shots leave it at the “daylight” setting. Hope this helps.

I bet that'd really help with the light box pictures. I'll stick with the current setting for the outdoor beam shots so the comparisons between photo shoots is more direct. Thanks for the tips.

Not sure if the xintd is the same as at other shops, but I noticed that my x3`s anodization isn't so strong...it looks good, but gets damaged easily.

I put it in a bag with 2 other lights, touching each other. When I took them out of the bag, the x3 had quite a few blemishes in its anodization.

Again, this might be different from the ones sold at IOS, because mine comes from BG.

Is it me or does the T6 HD2010 look brighter?

My opinion has limited value, but to my eyes, from the pics alone, the XIN has a slightly brighter hotspot. The HD has better spill. Hard to pick which I like though, as the HD seems a more effective ‘light’, while the XIN can make use of AA’s.

Which has better internals I have no idea. I think Id grab a XIN for the versatility of AA’s. I want a solarforce s2200 so spill in other lights seems pointless. I wont be buying 20 lights, just a few.

How is the mode changing with this light? Do I have to wait forever to keep it from being reactivated in the next mode?

How heavy is this flashlight compared with HD2010? And what kind of button response does it offer?

It's a Qlite driver in the version sold by IOS, so it's the same as any other Qlite. That's to say it's pretty good. The one quirk is that it requires a quick double click to get that first mode change, and then it's a normal single press for the rest of the mode changes. I think this is to prevent accidental mode changes.

The button feels fine to me.

The weight is reasonably easy to look up on the web…
JohnnyMac’s review tells me the HD2010 is 341 grams.
Intl-Outdoor tells me the X3 has a shipping weight of 350g (including all parts and extras, I assume), while fasttech says it’s 324 grams (probably the light + AA carrier), and banggood says 305 grams (probably just the light).

The reason the first mode change requires a double tap is because of the way the mode memory works. It uses on-time instead of off-time. Basically, after the light has been on for ~2 seconds or so, it will remember the mode for the next time. Otherwise, it will advance to the next mode. It doesn’t matter how long the light is off.

The algorithm is something like this:

  1. Light turns on when clicked, and immediately enters whatever mode it remembered from last time. It immediately sets the “power on mode” value to the next mode.
  2. If the light stays on for a while, then after 2 seconds or so it sets the “power on mode” value to the current mode instead of the next one.
  3. The light turns off when you click its button again.
  4. Repeat ad nauseam.

So, advancing to the next mode (or not) with a half-click depends on whether it has been on for more than a couple seconds.

Nice. And I just ordered it before reading this, but hey, sounds good. The XINTD C8s had me waiting for 8 seconds after turn-on before remembering the mode, so this is much better. I look forward to it very much!
