Review: Trustfire Mini-01

I’d say it did a great job of flood lighting the beach

Indeed it did

Well better late than never… Nothing you haven’t seen before, but anyhoo…here are my beamshots (first ever, be kind!) taken with my Samsung Tab

This is the stock version of the Trustfire Mini-01 off ebay running on a freshly charged AW IMR 16340, enjoy!

First up… the control shot ofcourse

Medium or Low:

Glorious High:

Apologies if Med/High look off kilt a bit as I had to drop the tablet to switch modes (always tricky with one hand…) and things might have moved a bit
The control wasn’t totally pitch black (as dark as you’re gonna get at 3am anyway)… I tried with the flash but it just lit up the area too much… the flash on this tablet is like a flashlight itself!

Nice work

Mine still has the CR123 it came with in it. Must test it some day - against the TLF Mini-02. Personally, I prefer the styling of the -01.

Cheers mate

I agree. Had it on and off the keychain, but decided it looks too perfect on there. More so than most AAA lights

Hi,
is it possible to install NANJG AK-47 driver into MINI without any major modification?
Or, is the current MINI driver based on ATTiny?

Thanks.

The Mini-01 has a 16 mm driver board.
The NANJG-AK47 is 17 mm in diameter and can’t be trimmed down to 16mm.

I have a mini01with a 4 or five mode driver…?
I just have glued the led down, but I will check it later again.

Anyone ever had a SOS in a mini01?

Hi
I got the mini 02 and im very pleased with it, gets hot on 16340 but with a CR123A the power is so dim,
a great pocket torch for short runtime work,

hopefully not 36 minutes continually lol, i just got one and its way brighter than i thought it could be… lights up the whole neighbors house lol, i can see all the cats creeping in the dark… and slenderman…

It is a boost driver. It lighted up with a 1.5 volt cell.

About a year ago, since being convinced by the over-all building quality of the Trustfire Mini 02,
I also baught a Tf. Mini 01 together with a Mini 05, from a german/chinese ebay shop (tomorrowtop).

Although it was offered as the “normal” version with the usal XM-L T6 Led, the Mini 01 that I recieved was
surprisingly fitted with a XM-L2 Led as well as the Mini 05, like you can see in the middle at the picture below.

Due to my affinity for little stainless steel made flashlights, I was still happy with this three nice little gadgets, even though
it was quite clear that all of them were much to heavy to be used on a keychain, and from my esthetical point of view I always had
a feeling, that the Mini 01 as well as the Mini 02 have definitly to get rid of these pitiful ugly keychain holders at their back sides,
which imo have simply been good for nothing than hindering the tailstands.

But as you can see,

since a couple of weeks these times are absolutely over.

The solution to enable the Mini 01 to tailstand

was to take an angle grinder, fit it with a very thin but strong cutting disk about 12,5 cm (~ 4,92 inches) in diameter,
mount it solid fixed on a bench vise and cutting, really carefully and step by step, the keychain holder off.
After this was done in a few minutes, I had to grind and sand the resting parts down manually, by using some diffrent
kinds of grindstones, which of course needs a lot more of time. The result is a loss of 5 mm down to the actual length
of exactly 6 cm (~ 2,36 inches). Easy to see that the Mini 01 is able to celebrate a tailstand in perfection.
With a protected AW 16340 cell the Mini 01 XM-L2 was measured with an output of 520 lumen.
According to my personel taste the Mini 01 looks much more beautiful without that keychain holder. 0:)

Compared to the Mini 01, the solution that came out to enable the Mini 02 performing the tailstand dance,
was a really good, much easier, relativ perfect and a little bit close to genius, one.

Just experimental trying I found out that a stainless stell screw-nut with an outer diameter of 25 mm (~ 0,98 inch) and an inside diameter
of 12 mm (~ 0,47 inch) fitts absolute perfectly on the backside of the Mini 02.
The srew-nut ist only centered and then simply pressed over the keychain holder by the little help of a bench vise,
so that the srew-nut is fixed on the Mini 02 as if it is welded.

Nice work.
I really like the keychain holder of the mini 01, it’s the best I ever had for the keychain. It’s centered and hanging there perfectly without knotting up.
I see no way of making that better, all the other minis are a step back. On my keys I can tail stand it with adjusting the key ring and keys…a bit Angeld but it works good enough. If someone doesn’t use it on keys I definetly can understand your point, just extra material with no use.
I have my minis01 (have two one mostly dissassembled to improve it, then I switch them out and mod the other head) on my keychain since forever and the steel takes up the beating very very good.

The only complain I have is that it isn’t made for 18350, just a bit wider and so much more power would be possible…

What is eating your TF02???

This are both good little lights, If you want an attachment for your Mini 01, try some turks head knots in paracord or other methods…

Thank’s for the advice. I will think about it.

Still my favorite, Keychain light. I have a Mini-01 on my key-chain now for almost 3 years, and still looks & performs great. with a XP-L V2 & BLF mini driver mod, and a TF 16340 Protected cell its powerful and near bulletproof.

Is there any better light nowerdays? I still have a modded mini 01 on my keys.

Wow, a blast from the past. These are still great lights, very good looking too. They are heavy for a keychain though.
