Trustfire AK-90 (12)XML-U2 Hyperboost driver @ 2000ma

Thanks for the invite! Its good to know someone close that shares the same interests.

Ken

i absolutely love this build. i love both flooders and high lumen lights most, and you got both in one package!
can i ask how much it cost you total? and what does trimming the white spacer do?

yes , i wonder where richie is, he has to see this, i know he would dig this mod.
he was the guy that built my 6000 lumen 90 watt ak47 9xml.

very nice mod

how many mm of aluminium have this flashlight under the leds?

2 x 26650 can fiscally fit? 3x 26650 are too long for me

I do have about +/- 250.00 in it. That not counting the batteries though.

Triming the white rings allows more light to hit the reflector insted of it shining on the edge of the white spacer rings. I got the idea from Relic.

My light meter will be here today. I have a bone stock AK-90 too. I will compare the two and see exactly what I achieved modding this light.

Ken

If I were to guess I would say about 3-4mm thick without taking the light back apart. I will probably have it apart this weekend and I can measure it then to know the exact thickness.

My light came with an extension tube so I can use (4) 26650 batteries.

Ken

ty and congratulations for this nice mod

Awesome stuff, Ken! Great job on those lights.

I gotta say that laser of yours is amazing as well! 3.4W!? A couple years back I was looking into building one with a bluray laser and 150-200mW was the thing at the time. How much does it cost to build a bad boy like the one in your pic? Where are you sourcing the laser diodes and drivers?

Thank you Johnny!

The laser parts I get are bought all over, mostly China if that doesnt surprise you! Lol. Its like flashlights though, they say 1000 lumen, but your really get a 400 lumen light. Lol.

The 3.4W laser I gor from a guy in Tennessee. He personally measures each diode/driver assembly and writes it on the heatsink before he ships it out.

I have a 100mw 520nm green nonpump laser, a 635nm 800mw red laser, and I have two of the 3w+ 445nm lasers. Various others also. Those are my most powerful. Bought all from different places though.

Ken

Oh, I have a little over 200.00 bucks in the 3.4W laser.

Awesome thread Hyprmtr! I have always loved the shock and awe these huge multi-emitter torches bring especially when all moded up. Thank you for showing us the pics of what something like this can become when you go all the way and not only mod/swap the driver but replace the led’s which I don’t think a lot of people have done due to the high cost on a torch like this. This is a dare to dream torch for me for sure!

is trimming the white spacer pretty easy to do? did relic explain how to do it in one of his threads?
i think id like to do that to my 9xml also. do you just use a very small round file ?

whats the longest amount of time you ever had it on high mode so far?

I got a good sized piece of 600 grit sand paper maybe 6 inch by 12 inch and put it flat on the table. Then I took the white plastic spacer put it on my finger tip and swirled it around flat on the sandpaper checking often to not sand too much off.

After the hieght was where I wanted it I beveled the inside of the white spacer with an exacto knife. That way the white spacers kinda flow into the aluminum reflector. Now there is a smooth transition from the white spacer to the aluminum reflector. No edges. If you blow up my pic of the reflector you can see a modified spacer and a stock spacer.

I dont know exactly how much it helped but how could you even tell with as much light this thing is putting out at 2A? You may notice a difference.

Ken

I ran it about 3 minutes last night. It was getting warm. But not hot.

Ken

Thank you!

Wow! Just Wow! Thanks for sharing!

+1

Looks like I will be doing an emitter swap on my 9xT6. I ever so boldly dedomed ALL 9 :weary: Killed one being lazy doing it without heat but that was the best thing that happened lol.

Put it back together, doesnt seem to throw much farther if at all and now is majorly ringy :Sp
Bummer. Well $60 later it should be nice neutral beautiful XM-L2 goodness!

If It has been stated already I missed it, what are you using for a driver?

Im using a hyperboost driver from Taskled.com. I considered dedoming mine, I think I will leave well enough alone.

You should be able to turn up the juice with 9 emitters. Im stuck at 2000ma because of only 4 batteries. If you are using 4 lithium ion batteries you should be able to push 2.3A to the emitters with the hyperboost driver. George does not recomend going over 6A input current from the batteries with the hyperboost.

I got an additional extension tube for 5 batteries. I havent tried it yet.

Ken

sounds like a real beast!
