lanyards-Show em if you got em

Cheers for that, I can’t stand all those odd colour combos myself, but many people love em.

For great quality cord in the UK I use wildelk.co.uk. Not the cheapest, but great customer service and they always supply good cord.

I’ll second that, I’ve tried several suppliers and keep coming back to Wild Elk.
I can’t stand getting out of shape paracord, it doesn’t work as easily as round cord.
Atwood does a really good Dark Woodland Camo that I get from HH, for just about everything else it’s 100’ hanks from Wild Elk.
I recently “won” two 25’ lengths of glow in the dark “paracord” from China, 9 strand and worked nicely, doesn’t glow for long unless it’s in near total dark but they’re usable pastel blue and pastel yellow.
Incidentally, if you hit those Zombie colours with UV light they’d probably fluoresce strongly, several of the more normal colours do but yellows, oranges and the neon colours do it vividly.

I made a shoulder strap with a ladder rack weave . The simple looped end is designed to be lark's headed around the light or through a lanyard hole . The other , more complex end is an adjustable double loop utilizing a slide-through turk's head . The lanyard knot is there to prevent pulling the loop through itself . There is also a secondary loop at that end for either hanging the strap up or for suspending another object .

I realize that this is a busy looking tie , but I wanted to see how well I could make it function with only a single piece of paracord and no hardware .

Very nice Mr clipper. Looks good for the bigger lights.

that looks like a pretty unique shoulder strap. i think this fits the bill for the btu shocker shoulder strap that i needed.
nice to see that i can be adjusted too.

Well , blueb8llz , you did inspire this tie .

Smile

Jack, I know you tied it with your hands, but how many feet or even yards of Paracord did it take to make that one?

That tie used almost 30' ( ten meters for you Europeans Wink ) of paracord and took about an hour to make ...

dayam 30 feet! i woulda never guess. you work pretty fast, my friend that also paracords, would have took 2 hours .
i just pmed you

It sounds like a dumb question but I don’t know what to do with a lanyard…
I have some laying around from different lights and I ordered a GITD one time but I don’t know what to do with them.
What are they good for? Do you tie them on your hand?

A lanyard can have several functions . They can help you keep from losing your flashlight if it slips from your grasp . Anytime I use a flashlight over water while boating I make sure to have a lanyard around my wrist .

If you store your light in a pocket or bag , a lanyard can be left outside of the holster , pocket , or whatever to facilitate easy access .

A lanyard can be used to hang a light for overhead or spot lighting . You may wish to simply store your flashlight by hanging it up .

On a small flashlight , a lanyard can provide additional length or bulk to make handling the flashlight easier or more secure .

Some people even like the looks of a flashlight with a custom lanyard attached . It can make your light unique .

This is key-fob related, but it seems to answer your question. Do this with lights, guns and other tools, pets, children (your own, of course!!), etc.:

I’m just beginning to learn knotting/braiding. I looked up Atwood Rope, do they make a good product?

The “usual” way of making a bit of cordage look like a rattlesnake rattle is to tie the Heaving Line Knot, which actually has three (3) lines of “rattles”.

I couldn’t stand it.

Here’s what I came up with:

(click image for details in a .PDF file)

Works as a key fob, zipper pull (that’s why I tied it in ‘ze purple’!!) or a section of a sennit…

The fundamental structure looks like this (mouseover to flip; right-click->View Image to see full size ALSO: since the mouseover changes, click to switch, so you can view either one…) :

Making one in pink for SWMBO, I notice they can look like lips!
(These may take some time to load… Working on it…)

Hope someone else finds this useful (as a rattlesnake fan, I would like to see them better represented) …

Since we don’t have “light bulbs” anymore, how about an homage to one in a lanny?

If anyone’s interested, it’s a 3-turn, 2-strand Matthew Walker knot under a standard doubled Sailor’s Knife Lanyard knot. In mini-blind cord, which is awesome kernmantle Dacron…

I Tossed the ends after reeving them back down through the SKL knot.

Burying braided cordage within itself is useful.

Here’s a GITD lanny, made of a single piece of cordage with the no-glow core pulled out. It’s attached to some F*nix EDC or another, with a Double-Wrapped Ring Hitch, which is tied in a Brummel Eye Splice. The “kern” and “mantel” separate again to make a traditional Sailor’s Knife Lanyard knot (2-Strand Diamond Knot, doubled), then we go back to making double-braid again to make the wrist strap. Click to see the big picture, and see if you can spot the bury point at the RH end…

Cool

I hope any of this helps someone somehow. I love it, but it really does me the most good to see my tricks at play in the world.

Speaking of which, I’ll take what I can get. I gave my little sister a fairly-difficult key fob as a sercy, and she (not a fob user) gave it to her cat. < wishes for “face-palm” smiley > You can’t pick your family… < sigh > At least the cat likes it.

I know this isn’t appropriate, and I’m not religious so I’ll edit it out if y’all want; but if you put Half-Hitches in cord the right way, you can make a Jesus Fish on your UF-501b:

If you click in to the larger view, you’ll notice the tiny Solomon Bar at the switch… It’s tied in the strength member from some leftover fiber-optic cable, which is probably nothing special, but it makes a wee Bar! One day when it falls off…

All the knots (Half-Hitches, actually) you can see on that image are identical in their formation, just arranged differently.
