WTB: Throwers AND/OR solid flooders

Hey guys,

So I am interested in buying a few different things including a DereeLight (XSearcher or Night Master) or another solid thrower. I currently own a 7G5CS w/ aspheric head, 2x ZY-T13’s, FandyFire G36 and an ArmyTek Barracuda. I love throwers so interested in buying another one or two depending on what people have.

I used to have a SRKung but didnt like how hot it got so sold it. I am now looking to get a floody light again so let me know what you guys have.

I have been browsing the BST section and seen a few lights by 18sixfifty that I like but just want to see if anyone has something tat hasnt been listed before I commit to buying a light.

PM me what you got or post it here……prefer a PM but whatever works

Thanks in advance
Sean

EDIT: NOT INTERESTED IN DEREELIGHT ANYMORE NOR ASPHERIC THROWERS

EDIT #2: Below there is a discussion on Dereelights being a “good” hunting light. My recommendation for a hunting light would be SUREFIRE. Surefire has been making lights to withstand high caliper rifle recoil and are super quality! Just my 2 cents and if I wanted a rifle/hunting light, thats what Id buy. They are slightly more expensive but when you have a $500 rifle, why cant you buy a $150 light that will last the abuse your rifle will throw at it……….

how much do you want to spend?

solarforce s2200 is a good flooder with the nice new fancy mtg2 led
elektrolumens big bruiser is a nice flooder

my signature pretty much has a number of the top throwers

Idk, the dereelight new is like $100 so id say somewhere around there. I know for sure i dont want the BTU Shocker though. Im tempted to hit Vinh up for a custom build or the K40 for a thrower but flooder is another story. Havent done a whole lot of research on flooders since I didnt care for the Kung.

Im not saying $100 is my limit so if you have something you want to share with me then just let me know. Worst I can say is too rich for my blood

the k40vn is a good solid light - i have one myself

Yeah IE talks highly of them. Did you get a batch 1, 2 or 3 light? I want the stepped up batch 2 version. Seems like the batch 3 wasnt pushed as hard or i might be missing something

i got the first one of batch 1 actually

Well nice! Idk if I cant find a light here then ill buy one of his

If you are ought to throw than be sure that almost nothing in whole wide world will beat Dereellights.

They are furthest throwing lights in a world in their size (and other much larger size flashlights).

And they are probably world furthest throwing single 18650 lights. Of course with little help of modified 7135 driver

Nightmaster 50 mm head with tuned XP-G2 = 260KCD
Xsearcher 70mm head add on= 440KCD(and probably more)

They are flood to throw adjustable by rotating head.

Didnt realize they were flood to throw……interesting! Why would I want the XP-G2 over the XML version? Correct me if im wrong but isnt the XML a new emitter and a better emitter?

 Try both and then you will C

That kind of school cost me a lot in past

XM-L2 is not Better than XP-G2… Well it really depends are you on lumen or lux hunting?

Look here:
Vinz made this DBS aspherical(same thing as NMV2) modification:

XRE VS XML-U3 VS XP-G2

kinda hard to tell which is which without any labels :frowning:

I could recognize them any time.

XRE weakest(if 100 KCD is weak?), XML middle(140KCD), XP-G2(with precoolimated lenses) brightest 260KCD.

Really…….hmmm didnt realize the XP-G2 was that bright. always thought the XML was brighter  so I can buy the NightMaster and then get the XSearcher head as well……two lights in one correct?

Only finding the XRE for the dereelight. did they make it in the XP-G2?

Yes with both heads but don’t expect above mentioned numbers with their stock emitters. XRE EZ900 is only good for NMV2 it will be to tiny in XS.

You’ll have to made your own pills for that numbers or tell someone to made you. You have very wide selection of people that will do that instead of you. They are mostly on CPF but I am sure you could find someone on BLF.

Any well driven light will warm up fast... no way you can avoid it. The question to me in picking a light, is whether I feel confident enough about it, that it can be left on high without supervision, and will not fry or damage itself.

The Terminator BS will step down when it gets HOT... for under $100 it has great flood, and is also quite throwy... it's the light I keep in my car.

For a thrower, I'll double down on the K40vn as the best option... you'll get around 400kcd out of it. The TN31 mod is even better, but I don't think the gain in throw is worth the extra expense, and honestly, how often do you need to reach out to something a KILOMETER away? (We have lasers for those distances ;))

I tried one deerelight secondhand. To be honest, was not impressed at all by either the performance or the quality. It felt like a rebranded chinese cheapie.

The above picture doesn’t tell the full story. Here is the deal. Given the same amps and not de-domed an XP-G2 will have more lux but still less lumens. But here is the rest, you can drive an XM-L2 U2 way harder than you can the XP-G2 and when you de-dome it you make the lumes per square inch go up. Throw is a combination of intensity of the emitter and size of the reflector. Now when you overdrive an de-domed XM-L2 you can get close to the same intensity but with even more lumens. So you might be able to get an XP-G2 to technically outthrow the best overdriven de-domed XM-L2 it won’t be by much and you will be putting a fraction of the light on target.

It’s the difference between seeing that your light is touching the target and actually being able to see the target. I stopped building XP-G2 throwers for that reason. It’s fun to be able to say that you put X amount of light so far, but so what if it doesn’t illuminate it enough to be able to see the target?

In the three above pictures it’s my suspicion that the XML-U3 is actually underdriven and not de-domed. The XP-E and the XP-G2 are probably maxed out and the XP-G2 looks de-domed from the tint. Dedome that XML-U3 and overdrive it and then see which one puts more light on the target.

I just built an aspheric thrower recently with an XM-L2 running at 6.5 amps and the throw is simply amazing but guess what? You still don’t seem to see the target as well as with a regular lens, I don’t really know why but it’s true.

I would personally stay away from super throwers with the XP-G2. Although I like the XP-G2 in smaller throwers a lot. When you get into XP-G2’s with a really large reflector you end up with a pinpoint light and it’s not enough to really light up the whole target. I might have to build a triple XP-G2 sometime with three emitters it might make a difference.

Just my two cents but I do think you will be happier with an XM-L2 de-domed thrower, it just puts way more total light on the target. The K40vn is supposed to be an excellent light. I don’t know how much he is asking though.

k40vn is $160 with the case. Im leaning towards that light but Id have to sell a few things; like my 2.16W 445nm laser and possibly one of the ZY-T13’s or other lasers in order to buy that and a flooder.

BTW the XP-G2 with a deep reflector sounds like a RGD laser  IE gets that im saying
Oh and yeah, dare someone to built a flashlight that can reach out 5 miles and hit a target

IE thanks for the heads up on the deerelight quality……I was kinda second guessing getting another aspheric for the fact that my 7G5CS gets used more with the stock head than aspheric. Leaning towards the K40vn

Idk on the terminator, i thought it had awful PWM on low and medium? Plus for $150 isnt it a little over priced when compared to say UltraFire UF-T90 for $70

Also I know any well driven light will get hot but the Kung was ridic. left it on for 10 minutes once and i literately needed to use a pen to turn it off since it was so hot. Even my C8 gets hot when left on for extended time, well actually more like warm but still.

SO ATM im going to grab the K40vn unless someone has something else they bring up in the next few days. NOW on to the flooder

+1 to 18sixfifty  thanks for that, ill stick to XMLs and my love for there flood and throw

how about TR-J18 mod by Tom E for under $100? it gives about 5500 lumens possibly more with XML2 U2 LEDS in it

Wow I was just asking another member about a dedicated thrower, and I don't want a pencilbeam I was looking a the Deree light in XML2-T6 A, I got a response from Deree lights customer service and they said the Xml2 lumens otf was about 800 but I didn't know how the aspheric lens would be until someone here spoke up thank you, so what options are the k40 and t31 and Tom E's modded trj-18 ? Thanks I always check here before purchasing a light.

The K40 and Tn31 both have spill and a larger hot spot than an aspheric lens. The J-18 is a flooder wall of light although modded properly it has quite a bit of throw just with brute power. For both flood and throw you can look into multi-emitter with a really large head.
