I love the 6x Nichia 219 version. Its really cool/unique and makes a lot of sense to me.

Perhaps someone can clue me in why would they make a 6 x XP-G2 version? I don’t get it, wouldn’t 3x XM-L2 with slightly bigger/deeper reflectors have more lumens AND either equal or more total throw?

These lights look pretty awesome. Im a bit jealous on the BINs they are using. Too bad about the price though, and probably the lack of copper mcpcb, and the lack of tint mixing and the CW emitters (in the non-Nichia version) Otherwise, they are pretty good..


-If you wanted more throw with 3 XM-Ls you would have to go with bigger and deeper reflectors. Deeper, making the light larger, and usually heavier.

-Based on my experience, beam quality and profile will be better with 6x XP-G2s. Smoother edge, maybe more spill light, but at the same time slightly more throw despite the compact packaging. XM-Ls often have a tendency to put an excessive amount light around 1 meter in front of you..

-XM-L2 produces just slightly more lumens at 3A than 2x XP-G2 (in S2 bin) at 1,5A. But run 2x XP-G2s at say 600mA, and they are more efficient than 1x XM-L2 at 1200mA. If users use these lights more on say medium, than they will get better efficiency compared to 3x XM-L2s.

-They could use the same design for a Nichia model (3x Nichia would not be that impressive in such a "large" light).

Using 6x XP-Gs instead of 3 XM-Ls makes perfect sense to me.. This is something that is lacking in the market of pre-built lights.

Like most emitters, you get get uptowards 92 CRI if you go WW, not that necessarily gives you great real life color rendering depending on the temperature... CRI is not really a number that you should think have equal color rendering through all temperatures just because its measured to say, 92 CRI. I have the impression that many people believe that because similar number normally means equally good, which is not the case.. (92 CRI 5000K light would have WAYY better real life color rendering than say 2700K 100 CRI cri light)

With MT-G2s you can actually get 80 CRI Minium in 5000K. But that requires lower than top bin. intl-outdoor and Eagletac uses top bin, P0.

MT-G2 top bin is "Standard CRI Easywhite". Its 70 CRI minium (usually around 73 CRI) based on what I see from the BIN codes. So the CRI in the typical MT-G2 light is nothing special and nothing to brag about.

If you want 80 CRI minium you have to sacrifice two steps when it comes to BIN

The typical top bin MT-G2 just looks very good for a 70-CRI minium emitter because of the "pure white light". Who does not like white looking light without any distinct colors or "rainbow effect"? (no need to answer that)

The MT-G2s CRI is extremly hyped! Many people seem to wrongly throw out the word "high-cri" for anything in the 70-80 CRI minium range these days too. People then learn from those, and say the same things.

More "pure white light looking light" can be made by mixing emitters, and you can also mix in de-domed emitters.

Pleae do not dedome Nichias, they have a perfect tint.

I don’t get it…so 3500 LED lumens = 2450 ANSI lumens with the XP-G2?

How does the TM26 do 3500 lumens with less and older emitters? (XML U2’s) Or is 3500 lumen LED lumen? Not OTF ANSI?

Very interesting, and thank you for explanation. In terms of temperature, I know my preference is for 4500-5000.

I have to say though, that to my eyes, the MTG2's I've seen so far, are equal to, or better than the nichia 219. A part of that may be the fact that the MTG2 was just that much brighter, so it may not have been an entirely fair comparison.

It will be interesting to see how drivers evolve to support this LED. Limited for now since it requires multiple batteries. Single battery lights with the MTG2 would be very desirable - at least to me.

I would love to have a single MTG2 mule with good mode spacing, or dare I dream, variable brightness. It's the perfect LED for flood light IMO.

Dedomed, they are great for throw too... not like the XML's but I was surprised how well the modded niwalker does in terms of throw, and the dedomed MTG2 EA8 is not that far behind the stock ea8 in terms of throw either, but at more than double the lumens.

Compare similar brightness... I have kinda seen the same effect where I preferred the brighter light over a Nichia 219..

I was really surprised how well 3x XP-G2 (with mixed emitters for a white beam) rendered colors despite that neither of the emitters were more than 70 CRI. And my average light have 80 CRI or better. I have done the same with XM-Ls...

It just shows how much a nice tint can mean..

I don't think there will be that much evolution. And I don't think the marked is large enough for it. I would not mind to be proven wrong though, because it would benefit the flashlight market as a whole.

What an MT-G2 can do, several XM-L2s/Nichias/XP-G2s can in most cases do better in a more compact package if its made correctly. Most seem to want more throw out of the MT-G2. Which is one of the things several smaller emitters will easier do better.

They’re making so many lights that are so similar! They’re all cool but it’s hard to imagine them selling lots of all these models.

Good points, but darn there is just some sexy about the MTG2 so I would love to see what its true potential might be.

Don’t mean to hijak the thread but just noticed the print on these say “Eagtac”. Looked strange so I did some searching and found that some Eagletac models have the full word and some don’t. I dont have any Eagletac’s, so I have never noticed it before.
These are some nice looking lights. I will definately consider one when the price is a bit lower.
