is there a copy for the Benchmade McHenry 705?

this particular knife has everything i’m looking for beside the price tag. axis lock and partially serrated blade, i also like the length of it, my brother in law gave me one a long time ago and i lost it (was not into knife back then and didn’t know the value of a benchmade). now i want to have something like that again, since i got on this awesome forum i really do not want to pay the retail price of a benchmade any more  any helps are greatly appreciated!

the Ganzo 716 looks a lot like it although I have not seen a 1/2 serrated version of the 716 style.

thanks i just came across this picture, i was wondering what model is this Ganzo with the half serrated?

I’ve checked all my usual suspects, dodgy Striders for under $20, Axis locks on large knives loads. Add the serrations errrmmm, no.

This is the nearest that I could find, it’s not exactly thin but then nor am I.

EDIT………. Missed that one entirely :frowning:

Ganzo G 716 and 716-S comes up on the new additions on Exduct but shows as 0 stock, they’re probably just waiting for the stock to turn up.

If you look at the URL of the photo you posted, it says 'product/Ganzo_G716S' so that would be my guess.

It is tough to find an exact copy of the BM 705 with 154CM or D2 blade steel. There is nothing like the real thing.

It’s unlikely you’ll find any Chinese knife with genuine 154CM or D2. The best cutlery steel commonly available is 9Cr18MoV which, while it is a good steel with good heat treatment, is roughly equivalent to 440C.

You may find some Chinese made knives claimed to be D2, but they’re probably not.

I am going to chime in here.

Don’t go cheep on blade steel. Break a cheep Chinese blade and cut yourself or have to do without a knife when you need one sucks.

There is a reason Benchmade charges what they do. Some of the best steel options, Life time warentee, and great designs. I am not a fan boy, but I do own a few more knives than lights and a few hand made knives as well. Benchmade, Spyderco, Emerson, to name a few.

I can not think of a Chinese steel that is going to match S30V or D2 grade blades. Go out and buy the real deal. It will last you a lifetime as long as you do not loose it. Just think about it this way, a $200.00 knife over 10 years is only costing you $20.00 a year, or $1.70 a month. Skip starbucks once a month and you will have paid for it in 6-7 years.

i agree…i am not sure about the laws in socal but if you can carry a fixed blade there are thousands of custom knife makers across the country…check out jericho knives just to name one…otherwise pick almost any knife from an established company with the blade you want…benchmade/cold steel/a.g russell/crawford/crkt/spyderco/emerson/chris reeves/zero tolerance just to name a few…

I kind of agree with you strayz and twogunmojo. The thing is I’m looking for a low cost alternative, the price of a Benchmade Griptillian in the U.K. is £70 ~ $113 the Enlan EL-04MCT is $16 ~ £10 so for the price I can have 7 Enlans or 1 Benchmade.
Lets look at the materials used - Benchmade steel 154CM Enlan 8Cr13MoV.
The 154CM is a harder wearing steel, no doubt. If you’re using the steel that hard maybe a fixed blade would be better.
Liners - Benchmade, partial liners around the Axis lock mechanism. Enlan Full stainless steel liners, slotted for weight saving.
Scales - Benchmade, Black handles: Noryl GTX. Other colors: Grivory. Enlan Micarta or G10.
Axis locks on both.
The Griptillians that I have held feel sort of plasticky and cheap, the Enlans not so.
The steel on the Enlans is not a bad steel and Enlan know how to heat treat it, even Spyderco use it on their budget range as do CRKT and Kershaw, it takes a very sharp edge, holds it fairly well and is easy to sharpen, thev154CM is more difficult to sharpen but is harder wearing.
The quality control on Enlans can in rare circumstances leave them in need of dealer replacement. I hear of Omega springs breaking on Benchmades not so on Enlans.

Take your pick, the choice is yours, my money has gone to Enlan and likely will be again, for that £70 I’ll have an Enlan EL-04MCT and a variety of 5 or 6 other knives to use.

The OP wanted an alternative to a Benchmade that is no longer in production, there is an alternative in the Ganzo G716S the blade is “440C: A high-chromium stainless steel with a terrific balance of good hardness and corrosion resistance. 440C takes a nice edge and is fairly easy to resharpen. An excellent value priced steel for its performance.” a quote from the Benchmade catalogue.

Don’t get me wrong I’d like a Bone Collector Axis Folder and I’ve admired the ingenious design of the Axis Flipper, I’d like the D2 steel version, it’s just I like the choice of being able to try things like the Axis lock without risking the cash.

I sure wouldnt put CRKT in that grouping. A lot of their recent production stuff is utter crap. The others I’d agree with and add strider and Darrell Ralph (originals - not designs made by United etc).
