Change the led out with a neutral XP-G2 and use a sanyo 14500 battery, change the driver out with this. http://www.fasttech.com/products/1612/10001683/1186300-6-amc7135-2-group-35-modes-led-flashlight-driver-n
Or leave it factory, your choice. From my experiences though, the factory driver will not last long using a 14500 then trying to use a AA afterwards, at least that’s the way it use to be. The factory driver will work with a AA but only if don’t use a 14500. If you use a 14500 then it will not work with a AA anymore. The driver I linked is for a Li-ion (14500) only.
Just my two cents.
.
I just reread your post your looking for a XM-L light. This host will still work with a XM-L, its just the beam will be more towards a flood type light. The beam pattern with the XP-G2 would be much better with a small reflector.

There are SK68 clones equipped with an XM-L led. An example : this one at DX.

The TrustFire Z8 is a AA/14500 flashlight with an XM-L.

Edit : TrustFire Z8 takes only LiIon 14500 batteries and does not take AA alcalines, thanks to Chicken Drumstick for this precision.

thanks 007, i like your idea & suggestion.

Will study a bit & then making.

It's very nice with XM-L too. I have one with XM-L2 T6 3C and Qlite 3A driver.

However, the 17mm driver doesn't fit directly, but requires quite much sanding.. It can be done, but be prepared to spend some extra time there.

Z8 won’t work with AA, won’t even turn on.
