Review: Xeno E03 XM-L (Pic heavy, beamshots)

Yeah like troop said not as bright as L2 but it is quite floody. I zip tied mine to my hat and use it as a head light.

hkequipment has cold white, shipping included at 29.90. For those international buyers that's good news.

For those who dislike the glow in the dark tailcap and prefer black, the fenix tailcap from Lighthound fits perfectly and is easy to install.

I have what is supposed to be the Neutral White Zeno, but I can't imaging a light being any warmer than mine is. It is rather nice, I like the warm beam, but it is pretty yellow, far from being neutral white.

I received a WW version today from Tactical HID and I'm very pleased with the color. I was expecting a darker brown/orange color but this light seems more of a what I would think a neutral tint would be. This is my first WW/NW so please keep that in mind. The hotspot is larger than my Eagletac P20A2 MkII XM-L which is good for what I want to use it for.

Lol, and I think the neutral white is too cool for my liking...

Tactical HID is receiving 65 neutral white versions next week and you can pre-order them now. The LED will be a XM-L T5 3C. According to their website they should ship between the 12th and 14th.

For those wondering about the tint of the warm version. As stated in my other post above I have a WW version and it is a XM-L T4 7B according to my packaging.

The tint of the WW is very good. No green tint and no pink hues.

Inteterested in the NW, but then its $5.99 from the USA (tacticalhid). Waiting for hkequipment's response whether they will carry the NW and WW, then it'd be good for the international buyers here.

Can just pop in a IMR 14500, 7.80 bucks a pair from bestinone with registered air mail (mitro tested, all are ok and are as good as AW's). 2.4A 5-min capable pocket rocket!

I agree. The tint is the best I've seen in any WW light (except the 90-cri XPG). I ordered from this new batch of NW as well. I have to stop these impulse buys! :)

Just for the record, I don't endorse the use of IMRs in the E03, but it sure is bright. :) The one I have I only use nimh in. I got the E03 for my wife and it lays around the house so I wouldn't want one of my daughters turning it on and leaving it with a li-on in there.

Haha....i do operate portable laser (pointers) as well, so I do know the pocket rocket rule...no worries. Anyway this is not a twistie, and its a IMR so pretty safe. Also going to do L2m with IMR 18350 and UF XM-L!

Just got my Xeno E03 today, 2 weeks shipment from hkequipment is just superb, bought one in their ebay post.

tint on my cool white is just really great and i have all praise for this light.

Does this light have any sort of low bat indicator? Maybe if w/ protected 14500 there's potentially low voltage trip circuit, but w/ IMR 14500 for full power xml it'll keep running until dead since it's boost circuit?

If I am not wrong, it will just run dimmer and dimmer, so when it dims you'll need to charge it. No regulation to boost it. That's what I observed when i ran my copy down on high and the protection kicked in, it was noticeably dim.

But that's just the battery running out. All AA lights have a boost driver.

Update, my fenix diffuser fits perfectly in the xeno e03, I previously bought the diffuser from kaidoiman but non of my lights fit, I believe its for the ld10. now got a super bright lantern.

Good catch. I have a fenix ld diffuser that I don't use very often. Never thought of trying it on the Xeno. Nice to know that is an option.

Your concern is that the boost driver will just keep running it up at full brightness till it goes dead, and it'd be devastating for a LiMn because its unprotected (ie no way of relying on the brightness to tell if its dangerously low)?

Yes.

Will have to do further test. I remember it cut off, not sure if its batt cut off or by the driver. Coz it seems quite close to voltage cut off by driver, and also there was noticeable dimming before that. But the TF 14500 is protected.

You see, the voltage gets too low and gets cut by the driver, you just have to switch off and ON, it will come on again for a while. The E03 does this, so does the Sky Ray 3 X T6 which i confirmed is the voltage protection level set by the driver. I think battery cell cut off by PCB does not do this...you need to charge it to reset it.

it would be a very nice edc in red with ww.. but i don't want to go 14500, rather compact 18650 xm-l rocket

and it's little pricier :)

thanks for the review!
