SkyRay S1

Does anyone have any experience of the SkyRay S1 (1*AAA/10440)? Its tiny at 72mm or about 73.5mm including the lanyard/keyring hole.

Manafont have a 100lm Q5 version, Focalprice have a 120lm XPG R2 version and KD an unspecified version. All with SMO reflectors. Prices are all around 11usd give or take a buck.

It is only single mode but from all pics it appears to have a decent brass pill. So it could be an AAA modders' delight.

I would be absolutely shocked if the focalprice version actually had an XP-G in it. My sense is that all three are actually identical with the same emitter. it would be nice if one of the sites actually showed a picture of the emitter.

You're probably right. But if so then FP have been very clever by not just claiming an R2 but upping the claimed lumens by almost the exact increase that results when a Q5 is replaced by an XPG R2 (given the same amps).

KD only listed this about 12 days ago. So if there is by any chance a newer R2 version then the chances are that theirs is R2.

The one at Manafont also claims to be an XP-C Q5 which should not be confused with an XR-E Q5. The "C" is the bottom end Cree and I would take my chances with the unknown or questionable from FocalPrice. Worse case scenario you would get the same but best case it really is an XR-E R2 or at least an XR-E Q5.

Same light and emitter at FP with a higher price... buy Mana

I just got screwed by Focalprice. I should have listened to everyone on this forum who said to avoid them. They sent me a different headlamp than what I ordered and are making it impossible for me to get my money back so stick with Manafont.

Eww…so it is! I just looked at that pic on the site zoomed in enough to make out the emitter. In that case go with Manafont.

I've got one ordered from manafont. Wife wanted a small light with a twist switch so... I'll try and post something when it arrives.

At least two reviews on this forum ....

I bought that light for my daughters keychain. It is xpc and it is tiny. A little longer than the ITP EOS but thinner. Overall I feel it is smaller. She loves it, I have not played with it much but it seems like a nice light. Holding together nicely on the keychain. Not super bright output but for a single mode it seems just about right for what it is. When I get some time I will figure the lumen output.

Yeah, 1 mode you don't want to be too bright anyway. The tmart SS c3 is only very lowly 0.5a draw. Wonder if qtc works here though.

Sky Ray S-A1 != Sky Ray S1 ... Langcjl has one

I HAD this light but my 3 year old lost it somewhere :(. It was a really nice little light for what it was. It was as bright as a keychain light needs to be. It also had a really really nice neutral tint. Just a heads up the grey protected trustfire 10440s are too thick to fit in it. Even so, with just a regular alkaline it was plenty bright.

I hope she doesn't have a glow in the dark belly button now....

My bad S1 - S-A1 , was late - to much Duke Nukem !

On a 1.34V Rayovac precharged NiMH, 66.66 lumen. Im pretty bad at tints but I would say pretty neutral. I’d love to have an XML like that.

Sorry DP

I also have one of these and can confirm it's an XPC emitter. The tint on mine is very warm though, at least compared to everything else I have. I bought mine from a local chinese vendor (I'm in china at the moment), I'm planning on sticking a QTC pill in there when I get back stateside. It gets a little warm when left on for too long, and that's just on alks. I just ordered a 10440 for it anyways, though.

No problem... Nuke 'em 'till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark! ;-)

BTW... seen the Steam summer camp sales? US prices for the Valve complete pack is nice and even nicer in the UK.

Oh. That's interesting. I've had a S1 on my keychain for a couple of months now and my old protected, grey TF 10440s fit fine. DX screwed up my order so, unfortunately, I don't have any other 10440s to try out. I'll try to upload a couple of pictures later. And I agree with you: the S1 is a really nice light. Small, light, bright, cheap, what's not to like? Just don't keep it on for too long if you're going to be using 10440s.

I'll try to upload some pictures in a bit...
