Monster light Trustfire x100

Okay, I’ve done the upgrade, and the output is incredible. The upgrade can be done by anyone that has a soldering iron. It was a very easy mod, with the driver just dropping into place and soldering the positive and negative. This Light is now seriously bright, and on 30% mode, it is as bright as my skyray king. Another thing I like about this driver is that if you don’t turn it back on again before 10 seconds, it keeps the mode that you are on previously. Overall this is a monster of a light. I will try to post pics a bit later

Please post your upgrade information when possible.

Looking forward to seeing Beamshots ! especially in comparison to the SRK.

Got some pics, can you upload using iphone? Here is the link to my flickr.

(Pics added further post)

These are just of the modification process and few test shots. Will sure upload more when it gets dark :). How do you show pics in the thread?

Edit: this is the driver from Kaidomain, 7xLED Series 3 mode. To give you an example of how bright it is, 30% mode with the x100 is as bright as the skyray king. 100% mode would easily be putting out three times more lumens: (1800x3=5400lm+).

Here’s JM’s how-to on posting an image: HowTo: Adding pictures to posts

Can’t get images to work! BLF mustn’t like the format I’m using, but Its only flickr, inserting the raw URL of the image into the image selection box? Wonder What am I doing wrong.

Edit: In the Meantime: See Pics in Flickr itself:

Thanks for the beamshots Philip. That thing looks like a monster.

Skyray king vs X100 (1/1600)

Wow, tells the story right there!!

Went for a walk last night, and used my X100 on low most of the time. On Medium, It lit up the dirt track for more than 50 meters, and everytime I used it on high, it almost took my breath away haha. Insanity. This light is FLOODY, but with sheer lumen output it lights up everything even hundreds of meters away. Oh btw I figured I had to use the HTML Code instead of the URL.

The Shed is 110m

Looking up a creek, with the trees 50m so bright it almost washes it out in person.

160m

That is freaking bright!!! I’m surprised at the distance you’re getting as well! How quickly does it get hot on 5000 lumens?

I have to say I am impressed with how this handles cooling even at this power. 5 Minutes on High only makes the head warm, and since there is a lot of depth to the cooling fins, any air movement keeps it ice cold :p. Even the slight air movement when walking makes a noticeable difference. I have put heat sink paste on the threads, and also a solid square that came with the driver, was squeezed in between the two boards of the driver to draw heat away from the small components on the board. I don’t know how much difference that makes.

Put it this way, with what I have observed with testing, It runs cooler than my skyray king, which is too hot to touch after 15-20mins. I havn’t run the x100 on high that long, but going from what I’ve seen, you could run this thing until the batteries go flat, provided it isn’t a hot 30 degree night :).

Anyone Sick of Beamshots? No? Good! Cause here are more of em  Please note that it wasn’t completely dark, and with full moon, so normally looks brighter :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL at nuclear mode!!! Awesome light man, shame it’s so gigantic!

Haha yea, But I love the size, similair to d size maglite, just larger head. Its a pleasure to walk around at night with and hardly notice its in your hand :). Another plus is that you could kill anything with it lol, with that SOLID head. Love the size, but its definitely not a light you can chuck in you pocket, unless you have deep ones for the handle to slide into

Comes big output. You don’t mind a larger light when you’re going to get that kind of result. Maybe not a light for hiking with but a lot of fun for walking the dog or walking around bushy areas. Helps to protect against Drop Bears as well.

Drop Bears Lol. The other night I went for a walk with this thing, I found a Koala on our property, first time I’ve seen one wild in 10+ years. Many doors are opened with a Trustfire x100 :). Going for walks is just a pleasure when you have so much light at your disposal even though low is plenty, medium is like a skyray king, and high, yea… you’ve seen the pics.

Ok, so I have been using my X100 for more than a month now, and love it more every time I use it lol. My go to flashlight is the 4x XML-2 T6 Skyray King from Willbuying, and the x100 is the one when sheer brute force is needed. Ok, first of all, my first posts on this forum explained that the original driver was faulty, and wouldn’t function on all the modes except for med and high, and after a day it quit completely. I straight away ordered the beast driver from lightmalls, which also turned out to be a lemon when I installed it, so I order the one from KD, which is the one I use now… flawless. Well, I got hold of the seller on ebay and for $10 they agreed to ship entire new head to me!! That is great service if you ask me. After months of waiting for stock from factory, I received it today, so now have two X100 heads. I will install beast driver into both of them, but thinking of doing a dedome mod on one, say 4 LEDs, just to have some more throw, but I guess not necessary with a wall of 6000lm lighting everything for 200-300m.

Also, I couldn’t help myself trying 4 cells with the KD driver, even though the manufacturer specifies max of 12v. Turns out it runs great, and get longer run times… I finally did a current test on it and was drawing 0.6a on low, 1.5a on medium and a whopping 6.8a on High!! Equation To find wattage, 4 x 3.8v (cell under load)= 15.2v. 15.2v x 6.8a = 103.36w!!! What the hell thats a lot of watts. Theoretically, the X100 should be doing well over 8000lm at these current levels, and to be honest, I wouldn’t doubt it.

What are your thoughts on it??

Edit: After more testing, the current drops quickly due to the thermal protection at a guess. After 30s high is running at 4.5a, which is 70w, 6000lm. These tests were done with the torch lying on a blanket with no air movement, so real life tests walking outside at night, it wouldn’t heat up so fast. Overall, the thermal protection makes it hard to measure the current, because it draws different current on high, just depending how hot the light is.

The thermal protection is likely just a timer based thermal protection, it doesn’t actually measure the heat  So makes no difference if you’re using it in the artic where it’s –40, in texas on the hottest day of the year, still bumps down after x seconds

Hi everybody,

I need a bit of advïce. Can anybody tell me where to buy a (standard) driver for TRUSTFIRE X100?
