need a dedicated thrower

i have a 22$ budget in mind and i need something particularly throwy. the UltraFire X8 is what im looking at or something along those lines. waterproof would be a plus. any suggestions?

I’d build a c8 with an xml2 dedomed plenty of throw at that price

Dedome it and your done
Add a few dollars and get a xml2 U2 1a noctigon from RMM and dedome it and this light should scream with good batteries

i have a c8 that im not all that impressed with. i want a longer light with 2 18650’s if possible

Stock? There's a huge variation between C8s in their as-delivered form so a crappy one doesn't mean C8s are crappy. Are you looking for a light ready to go right out of the box, or something you build yourself?

Start with a cheap XR-E version (they have the better-throwing reflector), dedomed XML2, 3amp-or-more driver, and you're not likely to get any better than that unless you start looking at aspherics and going way over your budget.

You can get an extension tube for the C8, but 8.4v and 17mm really restricts the driver choice. There's a newly-listed empty C8 host on Fasttech that takes 20mm star and 20mm driver, that might be a good starting point.

i’m looking more for the out of box one. my c8 is one i was given and i hate it. it has horrible next mode memory and doesn’t throw as well as i thought. i’m working on getting better at modding but it’s little progression at a time

Find a ZY-T08 on sale it’s the best 2x18650 thrower around out of the box. If you do get into modding later on it can be turned into a real beast. Still it’s a great light just the way it is.

There is a coupon around someplace for another 12% off. That would bring it down to your price range. This is in my opinion one of the best budget lights made period.

Just so you know there are still some good C8 especially this XinTD C8 V4 .

And since your budget is limited to $22 I think you may go with this Jacob A60 , and Aurabuy seems to carry it too. Right out of the box it can throw pretty well but with limited lumens output.

Coupon: swiatelkawb
Gets the T08 down to $21.91

Will have to pick one of these up when my flashlight budget recovers a bit.

ive seen a couple people recomend that one. i might just give it a try

Just make a pencil mark across the capacitor maintaining memory. Poof! No more next mode memory. It will probably start on high every time.

If you want a throwy light out of the box, for $22, and you hate a c8, your gonna hate anything.

But the jacobs a60 is the only option for you. Nothing will throw 70 kcd for under $22

Chris

Already great replies. Don’t want to take anything away from what has already been said but here is a few more option’s.

Or if you can spare just a bit more cash—> http://www.lightscastle.com/product/fandyfire-stl-v6-cree-xm-lt6-2-mode-1000-lumen-white-led-flashlight-2x18650-3x16340-3x123a-130015

If you ever come by Florida I have a couple of the ZY-T13’s new never used I purchased from the same link I put in this post I would part with as the STL-V6 is my new favorite that I am using instead.

Good Luck.

for a single 18650 the Jacobs A60 is definitely a great thrower in stock form, also this light below which has a top handle, uses two 18650s’ in parallel, and matches my Jacobs A60 for throw but has three times the run time with its XP-G emitter. The hotspot is very bright and near perfect without any artifacts. A great price too as its quality & finish is very well done:

Wow, never realized its existence. No any review or recommendations before?

No reviews on it yet, as i don’t think anyone else has one yet either. I am very impressed with the one i recieved. I have not got out to do any Beamshots yet, but its defintiely probally the best thrower with the best run time for under 20 bucks. ( I have several C8s, modded and stock, a Jacobs A60, and dozens of other smaller lights for less than 20 bucks but this one holds its own.

I have one of the wallbuys cheepies and modded it. It’s NOT a modders dream though. The pill is the worst thing I have ever seen on a light. It’s just terrible. Granted, stock it’s an OK light with a nice beam profile. But good golly McMolly is it a cheap light. I didn’t really care for the Jacobs either. To me they just are not in the same class as the Small Sun ZY-T08 at all.

Was it the same Wallbuys light i linked to above ? The pill in this one i have is sort of semi-solid, and very easy to swap in different emitters such as am XP-G2 or even an XM-L2.

Yep that’s the one. If you notice the pill is only about a half inch thick in total. The pill includes the driver on the other side and it’s not even solid. So any emitter or driver is going to overheat if driven hard. It’s an ok light the way it is but like I said it’s not much use for modding into any kind of super thrower. There simply isn’t enough room between the emitter and the driver to add any heatsinking and what there is is not enough to drive anything hard.

I de-domed mine and bumped it up to with a 3 amp driver but that is as hard as I would push this one. I did get over 100Kcd. But I can easily get twice that with an XM-L2 in a ZY-T08 and have three times the lumens.
