Convoy M1 with MT-G2 and Carlco Optic ~ (photos fixed)

Carlco MT-G2 Optic

Nice mod Ouchyfoot. It looks like a flooder. Nice way to finish of the year.

nice, I like it. 8)

Do you know which TIR that is? My 45mm TIR is made for an XM-L and won’t fit over the dome. But it will fit over a shaved dome

I like how you work in a zero gravity environment, working on the ceiling leaves your wife room to prepare food in the kitchen and y’all aren’t tripping over each other, very inventive!

I thought it was because I’m in down under but I guess not if you have the same problem. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have no idea what you guys are talking about?

Are my photos coming through upside down? They’re right side up on my ipad. Really. If they’re upside down on your end let me know…or is it an Australian thing.

Just the first 8 are updside down, not a big deal, we get the idea and like what your’e doing with it. Is it dark yet?

Okay, I got the upside down pictures fixed. On my ipad they were fine, but when I opened it up on my iMac, they were upside down. I think its because I was taking some pictures on my ipad in lock screen, so I could turn it around and use my left hand to snap pics. I wonder how many other upside down posts I’ve uploaded. I know what to do now.

Nice mod, real diy and it should work great.

Waiting for beamshots…………

Here’s some beamshots I took with an ipad. Outdoors it really floods beautifully. It just lights up the whole area evenly with no discernible hotspot. I started off building this light as a kind of novelty, but I’m really liking it as a real and usable light. The M1 seems to really take a shying to this optic.

That’s a great light for going on walks or emergency use, would go a long way to get someone out of your face on a dark night too.

Sweet mod. I like! :)

nice handwarmer

Nice !

MT-G2 lights I’ve seen I don’t know much about the optic lens could some one please explain the mechanics of it say versus a normal A/R or zooming lens?

This is a morning after reflection on my modded Convoy M1. I guess you have to walk away from a light you’ve been working on to get a better perspective.
Sitting at my table, drinking my morning coffee, I reached for my M1 from my clutter of lights occupying most of the surface area.
Hmmm. I can’t find it. Where is it? It was right in front of me, but I had lost perspective of how small this light is. It makes a C8 look large.
This little light was easily keeping up with much larger lights in my tests last night. My neighbors were awed by the volume of light it was throwing out. They didn’t even want to play with my larger lights.
To be truthful, I can’t comment on how this optic performs against the original reflector that comes with the M1, which could easily accommodate an MT-G2. All my other MT-G builds have been with much larger lights.
Perhaps it would perform equally, I don’t know. I would think that the small size of the stock reflector would merely act as a mule with this emitter, but I have no hands on experience to back this up.
If anyone has tried a small reflector build, I’d like to hear about the beam quality.

Hey comfychair! I just finished copying this mtg2 TIR build. I put it together and gave it a shine. It’s nice and bright, but the beam profile is TERRIBLE! Any suggestions?

Here’s a screen shot. It’s a bit different than what the camara is showing. It’s more spiky. Like a pointy snowflake. Is this normal?

did you fix the beam pattern?
