Keeppower 14500

Keeppower will take any cell and put a wrap around, it basically depends on what is ordered from the dealer.

As long as Keeppower specify that a battery contains a Sanyo cell, I would assume it does.

Good to know. I would be (pleasantly) surprised if Wallbuys specified Sanyo.

Doesnt look like a Sanyo cell.

Wanna know whats inside the Nitecore NL147?

Or Keeppower 18500 (they claim its Sanyo):

18500 is "Great Power Battery Co., Ltd". 14500, I dont know, maybe DLG or BAK.

Thanks for the input! I got 4 Keeppower 14500’s from Doingoutdoor a while back, mainly because of HKJ’s praise in his review… Should have known better, they seemed too cheap for Sanyo-cells… :frowning:
And now you can get them for $ 3,90 a piece from CNQ… :~
Our local dealer, Akkula.fi, seems to have both, €5,30 for DLG and €7,50 for Sanyo…

Well, those chinese cells are good. Most of them are UL listed (something official) so thats fine, I just dont like being lied to. I have lost my trust in Keeppower. My 18500s with chinese cells in it clearly said "Cell & IC made in Japan".. disappointing and I wont buy Keeppower again.

I mean, you cant really be sure unless you remove the wrapper of your cells. And most people wont do that. I had to do it because they wouldnt fit my light otherwise. I paid 27€ for 2 Keeppower 18500, normal people just dont "destroy" their expensive cells. ;)

Keeppower makes batteries after orders. If somebody orders the Sanyo I am pretty sure they will get the Sanyo.

But if a dealer wants a cheaper 14500, Keeppower can also make one with DLG cell.

True, and that’s fine by me. But they shouldn’t then put the same label on both.

I bought two ‘800mah’ Keeppower 14500s from CNQG recently, they have ‘Cell and IC made in Japan’ on the label, but I have cut a small window in the outer wrapping and it shows a clearly blue cell underneath, so not the Sanyo I was expecting/hoping for.

yeah this is what I learned. Here's a straight from the horse's mouth...
The company have established strategic relationship with international lithium battery suppliers such as Sanyo, Sony, Panasonic, LG Chem, Samsung SDI, Skme, Moli, BAK, Lishen, ATL, HYB, etc..
Keeppower

For unprotected 14500 cells I think these are some of the best (Sanyo - from RMM)

I bought some from Wallbuys, I guess I could cut the wrapper back some and see what they are. For what they cost I would hope they are Sanyo.

Even tho it say cell made in japan, it’s blue underneath.

Yes, that is a big oops.

Here are some photos about Keeppower 14500.

Keeppower does have some good stuff. No brand has the best of everything (for the money) though, which is why we mix and match brands/suppliers to get the best value of each. For example, the Nitecore 16340 LiCo are the best value/capacity for the money — BUT they are slightly longer than usual. We stopped carrying the AW LiCo for this because Nitecore kicked it’s butt, however, the AW IMR 16340 is still king in that arena.

With some simple testing equipment and a penchant towards disassembling/finding the truth, you see things in a very different way. Sometimes ignorance is bliss since I now put all my own batteries (camera, phone, etc) through the testers and mark it with a capacity rating

EDIT: Oh and to loop back to the OP, we/I find that AW 14500 still are the best in that size.

Could you please take a picture of the protection circuit?

I have some keepower and some nitecore 14500 and I am happy with all of them, they deliver enough current and have good capacity. It doesn’t matter if there are Chinese cells in it as long as the cells perform good.
But I can’t understand that there is printed a lie on the cell. Has anyone emailed keeppower directly and asked this?

I ordered (4) Keeppower 14500's ,2 are DLG's and 2 are Sanyo's from Cellguy or E2fieldgear (very nice guy) and I peeled back the labels and made an incision and there was 2 red -Sanyo- and 2 blue -DLG-. I HIGHLY recommend Cellguy for Keeppower batteries.

i was going to order some of those 18650 3400mAh keeppower because of seiko protection…but now i guess it is better to put those extra money in a flashlight like ZL SC600 that has it’s own protection (2,7v cutoff) and then just buy unprotected…EDIT: who am i kidding… i still use unprotected cells in TM11…!!!(kids don’t try this at home!!!) :Sp but it is not my fault…it seems that i can not find decent quality protected cells for good price…

I should have put that I ordered and knowingly ordered 2 that where DLG and 2 that where Sanyos. And that's what I received. But I agree that they (Keeppower) should put a better label on their cells.

These photos are not mine, someone who is in Korea uploaded his Keeppower 14500.

Your dealer should be well aware of what batteries they bought. When we bought KeepPower batteries we were asked to specify which internal cell. There are two for the KP14500, either DLG or Sanyo. If your dealer sold you DLG as Sanyo then it's their fault, not KeepPower's. We are well aware of what is inside the KeepPower batteries we sell and label them clearly in our listings. If a dealer did not do his own research or purposely writes vague or incorrect listings, it is no one's fault but their own.

This is a misunderstanding. KeepPower labels batteries for many people. The statement "KeepPower will take any cell and put a wrap around, it basically depends on what is ordered from the dealer" means that KeepPower takes whatever battery the dealer or maker SPECIFIES, and wraps it AS INSTRUCTED. It does not mean KeepPower wraps whatever batteries they get their hands on and sells them as something else.

We carry a large selection of KeepPower batteries and all the cells are as we specified, we have found no indication that KeepPower lies about what cells they place on the inside.

As for my thoughts on the "Cell and Protection made in Japan", it's a possibility a batch was mislabeled, but ultimately the dealer or person who SOLD you the batteries should have been aware of what was inside the cell since they specified it themselves.

We take the quality and legitimacy of the products we carry very seriously. If we find a manufacturer has lied about their products we do NOT sell them.

EDIT: I should clarify. There exists two different KeepPower 14500s, one with a Sanyo internal cell and one with a DLG internal cell, this is not a secret. They are not claimed to be the same product. Retailers specify which KP14500 they want.

I guess the batch from Wallbuys was mislabeled too.
